Intensified lobbying to curb piracy

IN an attempt to halt the alarming rise in pirated music, the International Federation of Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and leading international record companies based in India have launched a concerted campaign for stronger legislation.

 In fact, they are lobbying the government to pass a new intellectual property bill as soon as possible. They also claimed that the problem has reached serious proportions in Sri Lanka and over 90% of the music sold here is pirated.
