President must show his magnanimity

1) If you were a criminal you would not have received two prestigious awards nationally and internationally.
2) You are neither biased nor a racist as you have written for the Sinhalese in 1988 and 1989.
3) Two religious dignitaries representing the Christian and Buddhist faiths — Bishop Duleep Chickera and Rev. Samitha Thero — have spoken on your behalf.
4) Your parents have got over 600  supportive letters from all over the world.
5) The biggest personality on this planet, the President of the United States of America and a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize has commented that Tissainayagam  is an “emblematic example.”
6) A court of law cannot be questioned; yet a harsh sentence like this is generally given to murderers, rapists, underworld gangsters  and drug peddlers.
7) Ban-Ki-Moon the U.N. Secretary General has said “The IDP camps in Sri Lanka are the worst in the world.” Are we to hand him a jail sentence too?
8) Our country magnanimously absolved terrorists of their sins and absorbed them into the state machinery.
Last but not least, Tissainayagam is in indefinite health and can perish within the four walls of the prison cell. Then the world would have lost a prolific writer, a young wife her beloved husband, and his nonagenarian parents their loving son.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa our fair minded leader is at the peak of his popularity as he has won an unwinnable war. He also gave a stirring speech in immaculate Tamil and said “We have no minorities in our country, we all are one.”  His speech reverberated in the capitals of the world and warmed the hearts of millions of Tamils the world over. They were so delighted that they are contemplating coming back home!
This is the time the President has to show his magnanimity, as he too has sons. He has only to take his pen and sign on the dotted line.
Dear Tissainayagam I am a senior citizen. I haven’t seen you or met you or your family. I hope I will be able to meet a courageous young man like you some day!
