Science Teachers Learn Student-Centred Techniques At Cambridge Seminar
Science teachers will take part in an education seminar hosted by University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) on October 24, aimed at enriching students’ experience of science.
The Student-Centred Education in Science Seminar, held at The British School in Colombo, will bring together nearly 50 teachers from different schools across Sri Lanka. Mark Winterbottom, a lecturer in science education at the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education, will lead the event and help participants devise new strategies for teaching science and engaging students in lessons.
Science teachers will take part in interactive workshops at the Cambridge Seminar, and come away with a new set of lesson activities that will challenge students and help them to explore science in-depth.
CIE Regional Manager South Asia, Ian Chambers, and Regional Representative, Nirmali Hettiarachichi, will attend the event. Ian Chambers said: ‘The interactive style of this seminar is typical of the student-centred approach. Teachers will not just hear the latest educational research from the University of Cambridge, they will also learn how to apply it in the classroom and will work together to develop lesson activities.
The student-centred approach is at the heart of the Cambridge International Curriculum, and I am pleased that CIE is hosting this event in Sri Lanka. I am sure that teachers will enjoy it, and that the skills they develop will deliver positive results in the classroom.’
