TOYP Awards

HSBC JCI TOYP awards ceremony held for the fifth consecutive year concluded at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel Colombo recently.
The chief guest at the event was Chief of Defense Staff General Sarath Fonseka, while the guest of honour was   HSBC Sri Lanka and Maldives Chief Executive Officer Nick Nicolaou.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Nicolaou said, “HSBC is pleased to be part of this event to honour youth who have represented the heights of progress in numerous human endeavours, steering themselves and their communities towards greater prosperity and continuing to serve humanity in a great variety of ways”.
The HSBC JCI TOYP award winners for this year were: Sisil Kumarawadu (Academic Accomplishment); Prasantha Jayamanna (Business and entrepreneurial accomplishment);
Wasantha Bandara (Contribution to Arts, Culture and Media); Ms. Ramani Damayanthi (Contribution to Children); Anurudha Bandara (Environmental leadership); Ali Sabry (Legal Accomplishment); Dr. Prasad Katulanda (Medical Innovation and Research); Ajantha Mendis (Personal Accomplishment-Sports); . Rishard Bathiudeen (Political Accomplishment) and Asitha Pinnaduwa (Voluntary Services).
Originally, the TOYP programme was conceived and developed by the U.S. Junior Chamber in 1931 and was later adopted internationally by the JCI movement. World award winners include Orson Welles, Henry Kissinger, John F Kennedy and Senaka Senanayake (who is the only Sri Lankan to date to win an international TOYP award).
