Some suggestions for presidential candidates

With a presidential election now due at any time, what Sri Lanka needs is a president who will:

(a) Abolish the presidency the country cannot afford. This promise must be made mandatory and binding on the new president when he comes to power.

(b) Abolish the Emergency — remove all the security check points that have mushroomed all over after the war was won.

(c) Send all the displaced people in Menik Farm and elsewhere back home.

(d) Appoint the Constitutional Council as a first, firm requirement to be brought in immediately the new president takes his oaths.

This is what the country needs more than anything else. Only a candidate who promises to implement these should be elected by the people. Of course the presidential election must be free and fair.

    How about:
    1. Make Sri Lanka absolutely secular
    2. Stop all state colonization
    3. Create 4 autonomous regions for people of same culture to mange themselves
    4. Lay down minimum qualifications to contest elelctions in the country
    5. Take the power of politicians to meddle in administartion
    6. Create a code of governance

Am sure the party who can change the constitution to “MAKE THE PRESIDENT ANSWERABLE and allow him to be ‘TRIED IN COURTS’ is talking sense and win the elections
