Sri Lanka To Go Nuclear

Sri Lanka is to obtain assistance from the International Automatic Energy Agency (IAEA) over the country’s proposed plans to go in for nuclear power options.

A cabinet memorandum was submitted by Power and Energy Minister W.D.J Seneviratne on Wednesday seeking approval to consider nuclear power as an option for meeting the country’s future energy demand.

Technical cooperation will be sought from the IAEA, Atomic Energy Authority and the Ministry of Science and Technology for the plan.

The Ministry will also seek technical assistance from Korea to conduct a pre-feasibility study. (MM)
