Austria, Sri Lanka’s New Mediator?
Austria appears to be Sri Lanka’s new mediator; with the European nation putting forward a proposal to bring together the President Mahinda Rajapaksa led government and major Tamil stakeholders in an effort to iron out the political differences between the parties.
Austria’s Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger recently announced that his country has put forward a proposal to Sri Lanka to bring the government and the Tamils on one platform in an effort to find a long lasting political solution to the country’s ethnic problem. He however noted that the government was yet to respond to his country’s proposal.
“We are trying to bring the two parties to one table and settle the issue between the Tamils and the government,” Spindelegger said in New York. (MM)
