Catholic Teachers’ Day celebrated

The Teachers’ day of the Archdiocese of Colombo was held recently on a grand scale at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10. The Archbishop of Colombo Rev. Dr. Malcolm Ranjith was escorted by about 2000 teachers who followed the college band. It was a significant occasion where teachers from the Archdiocese of Colombo stretching from Kalutara to Negombo participated. This was the very first event in which the Rt. Rev. Dr. Malcolm Ranjith participated since his appointment as the Archbishop of Colombo. Officiating at Holy Mass at the St. Joseph’s College Chapel the Archbishop stressed on the theme ‘Let the children come unto me,’ as quoted in the Holy Bible.
The ministers and VIPs who attended the occasion lighted the oil lamp following which the students of St. Anthony’s BMV, Colombo 3 presented a welcome dance symbolising the different religions and races. The items presented by the students of Good Shepherd’s Convent, Gampaha and St. Lawrence College, Wellawatte added colour to the occasion.
Rev. Fr. Ranjith Madurawala, Archdiocesan and Director of Education and General Manager of Catholic Schools stated that irrespective of whether one were a student of the private schools under the Archbishop of Colombo, schools taken over by the government, government schools or international schools, it was the responsibility of one to lead a life keeping faith in one’s own religion and its teachings.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Principal, St. Anthony’s BMV, Colombo 3 and President of the Catholic Teachers’ Union, Colombo Central, Rev. Sr. Sonali.
