Six Months Later, No Political Solution In Sight

Despite it being more than six months since Sri Lanka’s bloody war with the LTTE ended, the government appears to be reneging on its earlier rhetoric on finding a political solution to the problems faced with the Tamil community.
“No discussion has been initiated regarding a political settlement, in order to resolve issues voiced by minority factions,” Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.
Rambukwella asserted the atmosphere must be conducive in order to begin discussion for a political settlement.
He emphasised that the government’s first priority was to resettle the IDPs in their original villages. “This is an ongoing process,” the Defence Spokesman asserted.
Rambukwella added, “The main concern is to see that the IDPs’ basic requirements, like food and shelter, are fulfilled, before we look at the possibility of a political settlement.”
However, he would not specify when discussions into a political solution would commence. He further side-stepped queries as to whether the government was waiting to resettle all the IDPs before negotiating for a political solution.
Are you supprised? Though first priority is resettlement of the IDPs it is only an excuse that too will not happen. What happened to the 95 % work completed by the all parties body headded by Tissa prior to the end of war, the MPs were benefitted tax payers lost, now nobody seem to be worried. Love’s labour lost for ever. That is why Akasi of Japan said he was prepared to wait even for 20 years for a solition. There was not a leader in th past since independence who wished a just solition and not even one among the present. Any one want to win the election to be a Prsident or an MP will with Sinhala voters will not even dream of finding a solution. Just look at the speculated two main contenders, what is the main qualification, they have other than crushing the up rising of the Tamils in the name of defeting terrorisam. Are we worried of the suffering and death distruction and cost of winning. Could not a peaceful solution found. Do our leders realy love the country? What about their Natonal wealth in foregin banks in their name of our leaders and the duel citizeship they have, we voters are not worried as long as they are anti Tamils.
WILL THERE EVER BE A PEACEFUL POLITICAL SOLUTION TO THE ETHENIC CRISIS IN SRI LANKA? MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN THE VICTIMS SINCE 1956 TO 1983, CAN WE RETURN TO SRI LANKA , ONCE KNOWN AS THE PARADISE ON EARTH? WILL THE FUTURE PRESIDENT ASSURE US THAT WE CAN LIVE PEACEFULLY WITHOUT ANY HARASSMENT, ABDUCTION AND EXHORTION, AND GOVERNMENT SPONSORED, SO CALLED THE WHITE VAN MENACE? iS IT WRONG TO SEEK REFUGE STATUS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES? CAN THE FUTURE PRESIDENT OR PARTY TO BE IN POWER AFFIRM THAT THERE WOULD BE NO REPETITION OF THE PAST? THANK YOU.

seeking refuge status is wrong, those days in 1983, people really asked for a refuge status coz of political ethnic problem but now they ask refuge status to do blue collar jobs and earn dollars. by doing so, they r reducing the valve of sri lankan passport and its getting extremely difficult to get visa’s to foreign country to visit.

When people talk about political solution, they think that it is the Singhalese who have to provide the solution to Tamils. Tamils are majority in the world than Singhalese. They are lot richer than Singhalese on average. On education, business and government jobs the Singhalese were pushed back. They only had the political power. Every other power was/is with the Tamils. Even now, the diaspora Tamils can make hell of a change in Tamil dominated areas. But Singhalese do not have that power. They still have that political power to certain extent. (Not all the time. Tamils selected the president last time, in effect.) Tamils are not ready to concede the other powers but want to take away the only power that Singhalese have, that is political power. That is what meant by “not conducive atmosphere”. The minute the Tamils are willing to share what they have with Singhalese, the political solution is possible. When was the last time any Tamil talked about the Singhalese victims of war such as people injured and killed by their bombings, poor soldiers’ families and the economies destroyed by their warriers. It is always them and they are the victims. Do they really think that government is helping the Singhalese victims? They should know our politicians better. They got the western countries to interfere and force Sri Lanka to do things which is will hurt Singhalese people. How can anyone share power with them?

Astrology has been debunked by scientists as false. There is no connection between humans and planets orbiting the sun and stars (including our own little star on the edge of the Milky Way) orbiting the galaxies. Astrology is based on the false premises that sun is orbiting the earth. This ignorance has not been corrected by Astrologers and they still follow what was told to them by ancient seers and star gazers. Even the famous Indian astronomer Ariyabhattar placed the earth and not the sun at the centre of the universe. Astrologers emphasize the importance of the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, etc., at the time of birth. However, the birthing process isn’t instantaneous. There is no single moment that a person is born. The fact that some official somewhere writes down a time of birth is irrelevant. Do they pick the moment the water breaks? The moment the first dilation occurs? When the first hair or toenail peeks through? When the last toenail or hair passes the last millimeter of the vagina? When the umbilical cord is cut? When the first breath is taken? Or does birth occur at the moment a physician or nurse looks at a clock to note the time of birth?

It is atrocious Buddhists believe in astrology when Buddha has categorically dismissed astrology as animal science (Most of the signs are animals or insects). This astrologer need not fear there is a chance of someone in the government killing him, unless death occurs through self-inducement!

Unfortunately, the government’s conduct is preventing a conducive climate being created for a political resolution.
Prof. Vitharane once said political resolution will be after the defeat of the LTTE. Then he said it will be after the General election.
The President has put the draft proposal of the APRSL given to him by Tissa in the dustbin.
The President has not moved away from his public position of devolving powers below the 13th amendment i.e., District level devolution.
Just making memorised substandard public speech in Tamil by the President will not appease the Tamil people. The Tamil people have gone through a long and arduous history and they will not be lured by these bogus speeches of the President.
The Colombo development conference last week is a bitter lesson for the government when the Diaspora Tamils refused to participate and the government had to beg the gutless self centric few to mingle with the Sinhalese to give a success message.
