Rajapaksa Sees “No Challenge” in Common Candidate
President Mahinda Rajapaksa today declared that he saw no challenge in a “retired military man” or Ranil Wickremesinghe at the forthcoming presidential election. He made the remarks when he addressed members of the print and electronic media at Temple Trees today during a breakfast meeting, the information department said.
The President said that the need of the hour was to engage in a positive campaign devoid of insult and mud slinging among contestants.”I respect the right of the people to call for elections, and that was why I sacrificed two years of my first term, heeding to the voice of the people”, he said.
MM

Technically, there is no challnge from anybody for MR. However, if MR makes any mistake in handling the election, the challenge may come. RW, JVP, SF and other loose bound alliance will not survive even upto the election day unless MR gives them any opportunity.
Forget about the Tamil votes. East will vote for MR. North will boycott the election. This is good news for MR, if he can manage to keep it that way.
So, it is all in MR’s hands.
President Rajapaksa is alone in valliantly striving to keep Sri Lanka away from futuristic military domination. We need to applaud him and vote for him in droves.
I agree with chanaka
CHANAKA JAY, even i hate military domination, but since sarath is with UNP, they signed an agreement saying to dismiss the executive president rule within 06 months(thats wat i heard). The minorities cant stand another MR and family rule. White van abductions, money extortion from minority businessmen and the emergency rule. Minorities suffered enough for past 4 years, we need a change from MR and family.
We need a change from murderous policies. Of the three candidates we can see so far, Dr. Wickramabahu is by far the best option for the sake of justice. Let us end the murder now. No more chandiyas and ganang karayas. When thugs get hold of state power, all you get is murder.
Now the right time to think about the future of country since no longer we can nurture family memebers of MR. People don’t enjoy the benefit of peace but rapidly increasing sufferings by all ways, which strongly seeks a new vision to overcome these difficulties. As Victor Ivan mentioned, the MR government was unable to handle the benefits of peace rather than just obtained pettey political gains. Ultimately, the government can not discard the whole responsibility of oppointing Genreal as the Common Candidate as Prof. Soyza said.
i agree with you.
Dear Sri Lanks
LTTE is now gone , so you guys no longer needs someone like Mahinda as a president , if you want an ever lasting peace in Sri Lanka then please choose an honest and good kind harted person , you all have a good chance please don’t miss that . don’t let anyone make fool out of you , choose a good president who can maintain a good relationship with the whole world and his own people , god bless Sri Lanka
MR Rajapaska uanble to challlenge mr.Fonsaka . mrRapaska brothers drama is over end janary2010.. MR Rajapaska and MS Chandraka is most corruption . today srilanka is sufering in many ways.
I am a Sri Lankan Tamil from Jaffna left the country years ago but still want my former homeland to prosper and be a leader in Asia as we have so much to offer and with our high literacy rate can achieve far more if we have correct leaders. Hope the majority Singhalese can elect the candidate who can unite the country and make use of all resources.
It would be a good idea for the Presidential Candidates to come out opening and let the people know what their policies are going to be towards the Tamil and Muslim issue. They can openly say how they propose to resolve this 60 year old problem. If a Ferderal form of Govenment is the best way to takle this issue let them say that openly to the public, and let the people decide which direction we should go. If the people of Sri Lanka wants to remain as a united country with out breaking in to two this is the best time to make their minds. Do not repeat the mistakes you have made in the past 60years and regret later. If we had settled this issue 4 years ago after Mahinda government came into power we would have wasted all the money we used in pursue this unwanted war. Our money could have been channeled on development purpose. We could have save the life’s over 200,000 people belongs to both communities who were killed during this war. In addition we have over 100,000 people became disabled as a result of this war. What do we gain out of all this. If we have been thoughtful and reasonable in our thinking and action, we wouldn’t have created LTTE first of all. Now on the hindside we can talk a lot and nothing is going to bring back the lives of the dead or the damage we have dont to the country. Please make good dessicion this so that all could live in peace and harmoney in our beautiful country.
