Fonseka Doesn’t Want To Be The Richest In Asia
Opposition presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka yesterday declared that he was not contesting the January election to uplift his family or to become the richest in Asia.
Speaking at the United National Party’s special convention held at Welisara last morning, Fonseka also pledged to restore democracy in the country once he is elected President. He also announced that after he takes over office, he will appoint a caretaker government and make way for a general election.
“I am confident we will win a two third majority at the general election, after which I will restore democracy in the country,” he said.
Fonseka claimed that even though he could have enjoyed the best of perks including a security contingent of 600 personnel, 25 vehicles and the best of treatment, he gave up all this, when he realized that the country was going in the wrong direction and it was upto him to steer it in the correct path.
“At the last Presidential election, we know how much bribe was given so that the voters from the North will abstain from voting at the election. We have the details,” he said.
Fonseka said a particular party and certain individuals used the war victory to win back to back elections, and this party was not doing anything for the betterment of the country but was instead shamelessly only looking after the interests of their families.
“I promise to build a Sri Lanka with dignity, free of family rule and a just society to all,” he promised

jayawewa we want you to throw the corrupt family
Well! Hope corruption will be eradicated and the Inland Revenue will be cleaned up using the educated JVP like persons and sent behind all those who robbed the country including UNPers.
we want you and your son-in law to b the first family
The Rajapakes would have made enough money for another country like Sri Lanka to live like kings..Unfortunately, Srilankans live like poor and starved people whilst the president and his stooges and criminals make tons of money and acquire heaps of assets…
SF cannot do any worse than what we are in now, thanks to the current crookish Rajapakse regime and his family with insatiable greed.
I wish him the best of luck in this election. Sri Lanka needs a change of governance.
He must appoint the Constitutional Council soon after winning the election. Then, put forward the necessary instruments, for the abolition of the executive presidency, before parliament.
General, tell us clearly, your voters, whether you will take action against the HORA RAJAPAKSES for robbing the assets of Sri Lanka, and also take action against KUDU MERVYN for all his murderous actions, after you are President on the 26th of January 2010.This pledge too is equally important.
Dear General,
We do not have to tell you about the corruption, drug peddling, importation of the hyper drug called Extacy etc etc We do not have to tell you about sub- standard drugs, the bribes the poor parents have to pay to get a child into a school, the pathetic state of our public transport service, the state of our roads how difficult it is to get anything done at a govt dept without oiling the palm, how tenders are won by certain favourites of the powers that be, mis-use & abuse of power at all levels starting at the top, disappearances … the list is endless.
You know it all. What we want is a clean government. Not a government which
employs totally uneducated & therefore otherwise unemployable relatives of the powers that be. We want true professionals with proven track records at the helm of affairs of ministries, departments corporations authorities etc. There are plenty of such excellent material, who obviously will not work with most of the present set of self opiniated buffoons whose only interest is ” what is there for me?” Everybody knows the reason for the multiplication of ministries which is surely a guiness book record. So obviously there will be a heavy pruning of this show pieces. Promise that you will bring professionalism into governance. governance.

His pledges are meaningful and as a country we are in urgent need of them, but I have some doubt whether the uneducated public will understand its importance, and act accordingly. I sincerely hope so.
If you promise that you will get rid of this paramilitary guys, entire north and east population will be behind you.
First thing is we dont need 110 donkeys to run the affairs of this country. Get 30 educated, dedicated and responsible people of integrity to be Ministers.
