The Sunday Leader

Clarification By General Sarath Fonseka On Our Lead Story On December 13

“As Commander of the Army during the final stages of the war, I did not receive any communication that some LTTE leaders were planning or wanting to surrender.

I was not told at any stage they wanted to do so and that some kind of an agreement had been reached that they must come out carrying pieces of white cloth.

I can speak conclusively and authoritatively on this particular issue and say categorically that nobody carrying white flags attempted surrender in those final days of the war.  Therefore all of the LTTE leaders were killed as forces completely took over a remaining 100m x 100m area of land north of Vellamullivaikkal.

Two days after the war ended I learnt through some journalists who were entrenched at the time with then Brigadier Shavendra Silva that an illegal order had been conveyed to General Shavendra Silva by Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

This illegal order was however not carried out at ground level.  I take full responsibility for what happened on the ground.”

Stick to the issue man! The whole list of allegations that you present here do not give an authority to Sarath Fonseka to betray the nation and then meekly flip-flop.
Don’t try to be a dambass!

        • donkingkann

learn to spell you cock! its DUMBass not DAMBass!

Firstly learn to read. The headlines mis-represented the article. Read the whole article you stupid cow.

Let me read it for you maybe you cant read:

In an explosive interview with The Sunday Leader General Fonseka the then Army Commander said he had NO information communicated to him in the final days of the war that three key LTTE leaders had opted to surrender to Sri Lanka’s armed forces as the battle drew to a bloody finish.

Fonseka charged that communications were instead confined between the LTTE leaders, NORWAY, various FOREIGN parties, Basil Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament and the powerful senior adviser to the President and such information was never conveyed to him as he supervised the final stages of the war.

        • donkingkann

He didnt betray the nation he spoke the truth about these arrogant cows who have no idea what a battlefield situation even LOOKS like let alone be in it!

Only goons will support these GREEDY SELFISH CORRUPT tin pots in power!

        • BlackSheep

Dumbass or Dambass , it really dsnt matter “donkingkann” cause u r it…
And by the way the sort of language u r using maybe acceptable in wtever the low life circles u run around in bt if u want to hang around the class of ppl who writes here better start talking like a gentleman….
And yea i agree to the fact that general SF may not hv bn in the loop of wt happened in the last stages of the war cause at that time he was in China with his whole family on a so called vacation striking up some arms deals…
And wt he says abt the comment is pathetic… “A journalist told me”… well journalists say a lot of things and it was extremely irresponsible of him to make a statement based on hearsay without concrete evidence… not the sort of charactor u expect from a person running for the presidency … and certainly not wt u expect frm a person running for the first time with no political history to define his charactor…
And finally my dear “donkingkann”, from the way u speak its evident that u have a lot of hatred in u and maybe a lot of frustration… try meditation… or better to visit a psychiatrist…if u r too arrogant for those atleast by a fish tank and stare at it at least half an hour a day… u need it son ….

        • donkingkann

Yeah Blacksheep maybe im frustrated. You are right I couldnt agree more. I am frustrated because idiots like you are brainwashed by the govt. You probably are making big bucks dealing with these crooks.

I do not care about the country’s past. If you were in hospital and I helped you through a serious issue, does it give me the right to loot your house and harass your family in any manner?

        • HUD

Hey donkingkann, Thanks for correcting spellings of your correct name.
I read the article and the whole article and not only the two parts of paragraphs you extracted.
How about the following parts of the article.

“Later, I learnt that Basil had conveyed this information to the Defense Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa – who in turn spoke with Brigadier Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army’s 58th Division, giving orders not to accommodate any LTTE leaders attempting surrender and that “they must all be killed.”

“General Fonseka explained how on the night of May 17th this year desperate efforts of three senior LTTE leaders trapped in the war zone to save their lives failed as they were instead shot dead as they prepared to surrender to government forces.”

I may not know how to spell your correct name, but I do know to read and extract the core of the story. I’m not like you who desperately try to clean the goo on SF applied by himself. You are the person who blamed Sunday Leader writer Fedrica saying that she is in MR’s payroll without reading her article and then later accused others for not reading the article.
          Dumbass !

      • pinky

you are very correct, but people who do not read newspapers like Sunday Leader never know the truth.

Reggarding corruption…well.. unfortunately its smthin that has always bn present in SL… JR , Premadasa.CBK to Ranil and MR…. so that makes it an irrelavant iissue when making a decision… and oh …our dear jenaral has his closet filled with skeletons as well… and he hasnt even bn in politics…

  5. P.L.J.B.Palipana

This regime of MR wasted vast amount of public properties during the year for the sake of there greed for power. 60% of our population(Sinhaha,Tamil and Muslim) are very poor and we need to save every cent for the distribution among those people. What are doing those so called politicians? Simply stealing the poor. We have to do so many things to up lift their lives but unfortunately we can’t see anything positive towards that end.

    SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL- SCHUMACHER
I wish that Hon.Sarath Fonseka will introduce us a Simple Political Structure and a decent Polititical Culture to our nation.

Fonseka is good army commander, in army. he can achieved target, but we should not forget his success purely because of precedent Rajapaksha s Political Leadership, he gave correct decision and direction to work there forces and he build suitable country political , economical and international environment to de feed the terrarium in Sri Lanka. If comfier the all situation of past 4 years, all credit going to Mahinda rajapaksha and his government did excellent job to de feed terrarium. And fonseka would able to gives good contribution to de feed terrarium because of he in Mahinda,s ,team

Now fonseka become a conman candidate of the opposition. His leaders would be now Ranil wikramasingha, Somawansa Amarasingha , Mano ganshan (LTT Supporters) Like totally failed political leaders in Sri Lanka, They don’t have their correct Political Vision, they act on Europe sound and Dollars. So any one hope those leaders can give correct direction to Fonseka. We are sure Fonseka going to suicide his good name in this political game

We are 200% sure President Rajapaksa will be elected as President in Sri Lanka in next election and trust he will give us remarkable political leadership for our mother land and its development.

In accident if Sf become to Executive precedent in Sri Lanka. It will leads to formed unstable government (mix of JVP. UNP Mano, Hakiem) and it will not bring this nation any where.

  6. Asoka

Fonseka has dug a big a hole for himself and now no way out from that. More clarification done on it more damage would be done. Best thing is to get some money from Prabhakaren’s parents and get on with the election campaign. Winning it with the support of Mangala, Ranil and JVP is another matter. Best support would be for all of them including Fonseka to stay away from Public until the election day. Each encounter cost them votes!!

I read the below story in May 2009 posted on Tamil Net.
    I quote
“War crime in the massacre of LTTE officials
    [TamilNet, Tuesday, 19 May 2009, 01:52 GMT]
While rejecting Colombo’s claim of the killing of LTTE leader V. Pirapaharan and assuring his safety and well-being, LTTE’s International Relations Head S. Pathmanathan Tuesday accused Colombo of treachery in the killing of the political wing leaders B. Nadesan and S. Puleedevan. Mr. Pathmanathan said it is a crime against humanity that needs to be investigated. Meanwhile, informed sources told TamilNet that what happened in the early hours of Monday was a well-planned massacre of several unarmed civil officers of the LTTE with the aim of annihilating its political structure. At the orders of a ‘top defence figure,’ an international arrangement involving ICRC, European diplomats and a Colombo government diplomat to arrange safe exit to the civil officers was defied, the sources said.

Political observers compared Monday’s massacre with the prison massacre of Tamil liberation fighters in 1983 and events leading to the collective death of 12 senior leaders and cadres of the LTTE in 1987.

Tamil circles also commented that any surrender of the LTTE as pressed by the International Community would have seen a similar fate to its cadres, had it been heeded.

The clarifications from Mr. Pathmanathan follow:

    Statement 1:

I wish to inform the Global Tamil community distressed witnessing the final events of the war that our beloved leader Velupillai Pirapaharan is alive and safe. He will continue to lead the quest for dignity and freedom for the Tamil people.

The President and the Government of Sri Lanka needing to carry on and gloat in the planned Victory Celebrations on Tuesday, had their military establishment deliberately come up with the story detailing the demise of the leader of the LTTE. We categorically reject this and wish to inform the Tamil community to be vigilant and to exercise maximum restraint whilst grieving for the loss of Tamil civilian lives in the barbaric conduct of the final chapters of this battle.

The Tamil freedom struggle is a just cause and will not be quashed by the events of the last 24 hours. Truth and justice will always prevail.

    Statement 2:

We wish to bring to the notice of the International Community the events of the last 24 hours in the so called safety zone in the war in Sri Lanka.

Subsequent to our announcement that the LTTE had decided to “silence the guns” in view of the unbearable civilian carnage at the hands of the Sri Lankan military and the heavy weaponry donated to it by third parties, we were informed by some member states of the International Community that arrangements had been made with the Sri Lankan military for discussions on an orderly end to the war.

We were instructed to make contact with the 58th Division of the Sri Lankan forces in the war zone, un-armed and carrying white flags. Head of our Political Wing, Mr. B. Nadesan and Mr. Puleedevan then proceeded to do so. They were un-armed and carrying white flags and were called on by the Officers of the 58th Division to come forward for discussions. When they complied they were both shot and killed. We vehemently condemn this action. The International Community needs to take this into account in its deliberations about charges of “Crimes against Humanity” against the members of the Sri Lanka Government and its military establishment. This act is even more unpalatable when one takes into account that the LTTE released as an act of goodwill, seven Sri Lankan Prisoners of War the day before totally unharmed.

We appeal to the International Community to act now to ensure the safety and basic needs of the displaced people who are suffering in the prison camps of the Sri Lankan military. The onus is now on the International Community to see that further war crimes and crimes against humanity are not committed on Tamils by the Sri Lankan state and to force the Sri Lankan state to yield in to the political aspirations of the Tamil people.

    • Andara Demalaa

Who cares what the stupid “Tamilnet” bijjo think!

      • kudu

Where in the world do they have “Officers” in a terrorist camp. TTalk about ” Crime against humanity ” where was it when innocent civilians including babies were massacred in thousands throughout the country including very people you claim to represent. Even if your so called officers were killed while carrying a white cloth, the punishment was insufficient.

SF has provided fuel to terrorist that are left and their supporters. All Sri Should we support someone who does not know what to talk and when to do so. What would he lead this country towards ?

After the initial blunder he gets deeper and deeper into the pit with more and more explanations.

From all the things we have heard one can figure out what had happened actually. But all that happened in a battlefield cannot be assessed on humanitarian aspect as that happened in a peaceful countryside. And the point of view of the people who were suffering for decades due to the conflict cannot be the same as those who look from outside with critical eyes.

SF may have said a thing he should not have beensaid, to counter the mud slinging against him, which shows his political inexperience. But considering his honesty, courage and determination to win displayed so far, I firmly believe he is the best bet to fight against the present corrupt and disgraceful administration.

  15. Alisten Joseph

SF should avoid any comments this time until election , this is will damage the majoroty of voters. They kille JVP leader so nothing new to me about Srilnakan political leadership.
Due to election , tamils have atlease some freedom in Srilanka and we need to support SF to retain this. Even though it is diffcult to vote ,but please vote for SF who can erradict corruption and not influenced by political leaders and politics.
The saddest thing is if you want to the the real truth about the war and army, you should go for an indpendant inquiry but please dont include Indians

  16. Mudiyanse

LTTE killed 600 policemen who were surrendered to them by the orders of president premadasa . is’nt that a war crime ?

    • ponna prabha

yes very true! that was the real genocide & not bogus claims!

    • sandman

LTTE is a terrorist organisation remember ? so it is not answerable to anyone.

    • kannan

It was a war crime. The guy who ordered it (Karuna) is now a minister in the MR government. The harsh truth in Sri Lanka is that as long you are aligned with the ruling party, you will not be held accountable. For over 25 years the Tamil people in the north and east had their human rights violated by successful governments and different organizations who claimed to represent them.

    • mada

Yes the LTTE killed 600 policemen who surrendered and its a war crime. but then the same person who conducted this war crime is today a minister in MR govt ?????????????????????.

      HE Hon Minister Karuna ?

  17. One can not be a HERO by Killing the surrenders!

    • ponna prabha

they surrendered as no option after army won! just because pathertic killers surrendered to save their skin we should let them get away?? never! our boys are HEROS! we salute them

    • Andara Demalaa

      pala huttho

    • kumara

Yes then SF cant be a Hero. becouse he tells he take all resposibilities at ground level happend.-

  18. ponna prabha

so all LTTE leaders were killed whilst surrendering? very good that what was needed for barbaric killers!

  19. WHy Sunday Leader Doesn Accept my Comments.

  20. garawi

Now why did not you comment on the previous report and say that Sunday leaders was wrong! Jansz insist that she reported exactly what you said. What do you have to say about it. In fact you should take legal action agaisnt Jansz.

  21. Tony

If that is a clarification and not a retraction, I am Mahatma Gandhi.

  22. Dilshan

Is any contestents for President promise to get rid of buddhism from SriLanka?

  23. Dilshan

Singheela Army are devided as Fonseka Army and Gotabaya Army.

  24. rajeevan

As a war hero try to be a good and best hero
in politics, like Late president Premadasa.
we wish you all the success come to you in the new year.

  25. rajeevan

we got news like that when the war was at its final stage,But i feel there is more things to come ahead from him

  26. SHM

Sarath Fonseka is in a deep grave he dug himself! Now, he tries to turn and twist to come out of it but the earth around the garve keep falling. There is no wy out………
You are sure to drop more bricks when the final day approaches. Now your sympathy is gradually turning towards LTTE . You refrain from using the word LTTE or terrorists in your interviews. This is a big riddle! Who is financing you Genral, please tell the voters – don’t keep us guessing.

    • ruwan

exactly , who will finace to SF ? and can we trust Curepted UNP MP will not currept gains whwn they cams to power?

  27. rajeevan

This is a request from all tamil community if you want to be freedom,if you want to see our country is growing up as a developed cointry then please vote for SF,then only that dream come alive, otherwise it will be a dream only,SO PLEASE TRY AND TRY CAST YOUR VOTES TO SF PLEASE THIS IS A REQUEST FROM A WELL ANNOYED SINHALA SON.

    • JAPs

Do that and that would be “HARA KIRI” for all tamils in Sri Lnaka. Ask Johnsten Fernando about what SF wants to do after becoming the Presdinet. >>>But don’t worry General (retarded) Ponseka not going to win this election and it would also be end of his politics.

  28. AJ

All the police officers were killed by Karuna King currently serving as a Minister.
So everything is Prbakaran if so we also say every thing is Gota.
I cannt belive the statements coming up that
“No civilians were killed in the war
Higly diciplined and controlled army, How many woman got raped and absued , ask UN agnecies, I got some nude death LTTE girl caderes pictres from some army via eamil. What a crime. Even afteter death they took the clothes out.Tamils suffered maximum under army, and karuna king and Devanda Kng.

    • SD

Don’t talk like Thoththa Baba. Don’t you know how these bloody LTTE’s raped and killed innocent Sinhalese. Aren’t they humans. You all cry for Tamils been raped and killed , but no NGO, international agency talk about poor innocent Sinhalese civilians killed by bloody LTTE idiots. They deserve this for waht they did/

  29. Siri

The clarification is inconsistent with SF’s statement at Dharmasoka Vidyalaya and quoted as evidence in page 49 of the American Report on HW violations.

  30. Bleed Lanka

Hi Fedrica now it’s clear what you have misquoted

‘Two days after the war ended I learnt through some journalists who were entrenched at the time with then Brigadier Shavendra Silva’

: this what SF said…not that he told himself that Gotabaya Did it..
you should written in your HEADLINE that SOME JOURNALIST..!

Yet the foooooooooools are commenting against to SF….supporting the MR Slogans & Propagandas in blind fold..

  31. harsha

For me,this is nothing other than bloody foolishness amongst the sinhalese…….

General – Narrow thinker trying to take advantages…….

Government – Try to use this statement to gain more advantages on their campaign…..

Sunday Leader – Trying to make some bad money putting this type of news in main pages of the news paper.

DID ANYONE THINK ABOUT THE IMPACT OF THESE BLUNDERS TO THE COUNTRY…………

    Poor Srilanka…………Bloody sinhalese ( unfortunatly including me….)

You have one chance to eradicate this mega corruption and do not miss it!

      • Chema

For me, this list doesn’t give any motivation to make RW, Mangala, Hakeem, Mano, Arjuna, Tiran, Ravi, and Lakshman ministers in the future.

      • ruwan

can you tel me the this cope report produced on wich year?

  32. Nadaal Mohd

General is outspoken and sometimes does not mince words. As he is a novice in political arena he better concentrate only on issues pertaining to future security of the country, Economy, Law and order, health, education and total eradication of corruption. That would be more difficult than winning a war with LTTE for for against LTTE you know who your enimies are where as against corruption even your best friend may be your enemy.

  33. General Fonseka seems to have told what SL reported last week.

  34. Mahesh

What Generala says now copletely ties with what Tamil net said in May, Marie Colvin the Britsh journalist said in may 2009. MR , Gota and co can run but they can’t hide for ever. TRUTH WILL PREVAIL .“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall – think of it, ALWAYS.” – Mahatma Gandhi

“Ranilta rata bara denna, Fonsekata chande denna”!! I hope that is not what people want .

  37. Rohan Jayawardana

The reporter who published should be prosecuted and killed if this is wrong, after this news item did a much damage to our country. Now USA want another enquiry about Human rights violation on the final phase of the war. Chanel 4 in UK saying now they have evedence as army commander accepted that army did some HR violations. Canada and UK Tamils lodge a complain to UN to start an inquiry on HR violations by LSA. All of them saying that SLA commander confessed that they did HR violations. This stupid act of this newspaper can not be tolerated. Reporter must be killed. We can not afford any Sinhalese trying to damage our country, we are just trying to recover from the damage done by LTTE.

    • Sam

I do not think the news item is wrong. The news item appeared on Sunday and SF had a press conference the same day afternoon. One reporter questioned him, referring to the leader article, whether it is not a breach of confidentiality. SF clearly answered it is not a breach of the confidentiality. If the article was wrong he could have pointed it out at the Sunday afternoon press conference and denied that he said it. But when the government media started to talk about the real issues, he convened another press conference on Monday to deny the Leader article. This is all nonsense. He is a liar and a traitor who cannot even keep a war secret. Make him the president then you all will learn the true colours of SF in a hard way.

  38. Dilshan

A British medic held for months in an internment camp for Tamil civilians has revealed how military guards dealt out cruel punishments, while many suspected of links to Tiger rebels were taken away and have not been seen since…The Sri Lankan government confirmed to the Observer that it had received reports from United Nations agencies of physical and sexual abuse within the camps, but maintained that it had not been possible to substantiate the allegations.

  39. Mennon

    Sunday Leader, Damage is done.

  40. Anil

HAVE A FRIEND AND TEACH HIM SUCH
BUT, NEVER LET HIM KNOW TOO MUCH,
FOR IF YOUR FRIEND BECOMES YOUR FOE,
ALL THE WORLD YOUR SECRETS KNOW

This is what has happened. The president fell out with the General and started throwing mud at him and the General took out insurance by letting the President know how he can be fixed. That’s how patriots turned traitors overnight.

If you look back to newspaper articles, just as the war ended, you will see that this allegation was first made by Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP) and the Foreign Secretary at that time Palitha Kohona indicated that there was some communication between him and the Nadesan/Pulithevan set and that advice was given for them to come out with white flags. When they came out with white flags, the LTTE cadres were angry and shot the Nadeson/Pulithevan crowd from behind according to Kohona. Had a post-mortem been conducted, all allegations would have been laid to rest. These are not new stories.

The Defence Secretary came on TV and informed all, that the former CJ Sarath N Silva had adviced him against giving an extension of service to Gen. Sarath Fonseka and not to come to him after burning their fingers. Therefore it is quite clear that Gen. Fonseka was given the extension because the Defence Secretary realized, that even against the advice of the CJ, Sarath Fonseka was the only person capable of handling the troops to finish the war. There was no favour done to Sarath Fonseka. The Defence Secretary used him and then gave him the karapincha or the alavango treatment.

Now they have fallen out and the patriots have become traitors. Both the President and the General have played important parts in concluding the war and 60% of the credit can be given to the President and 40% to the General.

What needs to be done is to face the current issues. Giant cabinets, nepotism and rampant corruption have to be got rid of. A President from any of the two large parties will not remove the presidential system or dilute it simply for the reason that their henchman who are the MP’s will all want to be Ministers and be the ruination of the country. It is these MP’s who can remove the Presidential System. If Sarath Fonseka wins, he has no party to call his own. All the MP’s from SLFP, UNP, JVP, TNA and all their aligned parties get together and ensure that Sarath Fonseka keeps to his promise to remove the Executive Presidency and do it in parliament with not 2/3 majority but with 100% unanimity. Sarath Fonseka will have no choice. Considering this, I will vote for Sarath Fonseka and get rid of the Executive Presidency, Giant cabinets, implement the 17th amendment etc. The President can contest the Parliamentary Election and come back to parliament and be the Prime Minister if he can command a majority support in parliament. This is the best that could happen to our country.

  41. ABDULLAH

    Dear poor friends of Ceylon,
Now it is almost clear that both Rajapakse and Fonseka are nothing lessthan the blood-thirsty dragons out for Tamils’ blood. It is time for you jokers to decide one less-advanced dragon to govern you so that it will not end up after sinhalese blood later. But, be cautious. History of treachery shows that blood thirsty dragons are after only blood, whether its of Tamil or sinhalese.

  42. oh dear ani
    i appreciate your justification..but

  43. ani again
wt if he with his 200000 or more thausand army he commanded formally, with their support declare marshall law and not abolish excutive presidency..wt if he did not keep his promise…at least by electing mahinda i thought you ll be guranteed there will be aanother presidential election when his time ends..
    i m a bit worried…

  44. Jagath Senadeera

It seems that SF has not been loyal to superior while in office (during the war) that is the reason DS has bipassed him for the orders.

Can we trust him to be loyal to the voters or his partners (JVP and UNP)?

    • Malik

Dear Jagath, can you please name any president in the history of this country who had been or has been loyal to his voters?. Dont expect so many things from leaders. Just understand the situation and do what is good for the country & its people. Chose wisely and vote boldly.

      • ruwan

        DEAR MALIK
SF NOT LOYAL TO HIS PRESIDENT (PERSON WHO APPOINTED HIM AS ARMY COMMANDER) SO HOW OUR POOR VOTERS EXCEPT HIS LOCALITY ANY MORE.

        • Malik

CBK appointed MR to contest the presidential election in 2005. Has MR shown any loyalty to CBK since then. Where is she now? is it gratitude you are talking of? You all are confused MR supporters, who cant see the reality. I feel very sorry for you.

        • ruwan

          Dear Malik

CBK appointed MR for Presidential Candidate, because He is most suitable Personal, and her decision was very correct that’s what MR There, and as voters we are very satisfied about his way politics, because we never thought that war will not end. But it was end now because of MR political leadership to Eradicate Terrarium in Sri Lanaka. We all should Grade full to MR regard that. And we can believed MR can resoled the economic problems as we lets we give one opportunity to him do balance.

Most of UNP and JVP personal Knows, If MR win this time, They don’t have nay political path to move forward, that’s why all of you using every media to de feed MR and try to get power, Dear friend Please go to Villages and See that Trend, you will surprised.

CBK Things was CBK wants to party leadership, as its belong her parents, is it reasonable? We need Good leader for any Political party, if not that party can’t succeed, See what’s happened to UNP? RW need Leader Ship, but all powerful members of party now with MR Because MR party having more democratic than the WR.

  45. Sajeev

We are not stupid believe or imaging that LTTE Leader Prabakaran was carrying white flags attempted surrender in those final days of the war. What a shame that if somebody talks like that to the Father and the founder of suicide culture of LTTE, a person who never ever wants any single Tiger cadre to surrender against SL Army.
Poor Tiger cadres were instructed to suicide themselves by swallowing cyanide if they get caught. In what grounds anybody wants to believe this allegation.

  46. Rohan Jayawardana

Just a clarification????? No apology for misleading the entire world???? And disgracing the motherland ????

or is there any truth in it ??? don’t you have back with spinal code???? u idiot. Why cant u come forward and tell it ????

you are a disgrace to our motherland.

    • Malik

A decorated war hero and the one who liberated entire country form LTTE is now a disgrace. Isnt it Rohan? People have short memories and after all we are Sinhalese no. Misinterpretation of facts by SL is being charged on SF. Cant you people see that SF has denied the story. Well what else you want from him? Massscale apology in front of “Dalada Maligawa”? Has your so called MR apologized when found Rs. 80 Mn Tsunami funds was kept in his private account which belonged to the state? You all voted for him and made him the president and now you see the repercussions. Ok vote anyone of your choice. That is fine and is a right of everyone. But please remember that SF is a hero who liberated this country from the clutches of LTTE. He is a person who was almost dead for doing his job for the people of this country. Please at lest have that courtesy, men.

      • kingkong

        Well said my friend

      • kingkong

Your excellency, you promised a lot, when you ran for office. Expectations were high when you became President. Your excellency, just look at the ‘mistakes’ during your short tenure of four years: the Kerawalapitiya Power Plant, padded with atleast a billion rupees, now incurring recurring annual losses of Rs. 20 billion; the Uma Oya contract, padded by, at least, Rupees 35 billion; the shameless subterfuges adopted to sign a contract for the CPC refinery expansion, padded by at least Rs. 115 billion; and the mother of all ‘mothers of mistakes,’ the CPC hedging fiasco, ably engineered by one of your handpicked ‘mistakes’ that has both cost the country over Rs.85 billion and adversely and irreparably damaged the CPC’s credit standing in capital markets. Your Excellency, you did not listen to reason or technocrats, but your own kith and kin ‘who could do no wrong.’ The ‘mistakes’ surely could not have been unknown to you, as the media and concerned technocrats had time and again brought these to your attention. The damage and suffering caused to the trusting public are beyond imagination – we have schools without teachers; teachers without schools; hospitals without doctors; doctors and patients without medicines; and, so on and so forth. Written with no anger or malice, but with deep sorrow regarding how a good man, who could have become great, has gone wrong.

      • Chema

It is always like that Malik. MR was the father of the victory and savior of the country for SF few months ago. Now he says MR is the worst and bla bla.

Heroism is not defined by a single act but the integrity of the persons behavior in his or her whole life. SF’s claim may be misinterpreted but why in the earth he wanted to tell about that “correct” version (the version that he learned it from a journalist”. Why he is not going to the court when the writer stand by her story. Why his denial is so week and cheap?

        • Malik

Dont talk of integrity with regard to MR, Chema. If your memory serves you well you wouldn’t have forgotten the Tsunami scandal of MR, where he got caught red handed by keeping state money worth of Rs. 80 Mn in his private account in 2005. Did he apologize the country then? We know his level of integrity. If you need more examples let me know. Coming back to denial by SF, he has already denied it. What else the hell you people want from him? His team is already taking legal advice on this matter and it will be done shortly. It is very interesting to see your definition on heroism. Your words —-”Heroism is not defined by a single act” — Fine, people who saved many lives when Tsunai hit the country are not heroes, people who saved lives of drowning ones are also not heroes etc etc they are not heroes as per your definition because they have done it only once – single act. Therefore they will have to do it again and again to prove that they are heroes. Very funny. What a confused chap you are!

        • nrk

          Yes Chema

Malik having mental illness Because can you see he is the only person commenting agains on others reasonable vive you are 100% correct.

        • Malik

Ok Chema, another mental patient namely, nrk, has endorsed your comments. He has proved that he is sick by admitting the fact that he cannot tolerate dissenting views. See, these are the voters supporting MR.

      • kumara

        Dear Idiot Malik

If there is No MR there is no SF to contest for Election No Sf to be a ware Hero. Hope you SF did all himself, don’t narrow Minded Give due respect all of them participate to win this bloody ware. This is grate victory of all of them.

Sf did his part 200% no doubt about, but as you know UNP Highlighted There now right to extended SF service period to government during the parliament. But government they extended his service by yearly till the end of ware. Your problems was discharge SF from commander, but we have to face reality, because after ware there are no reason to extend SF service because he had serve extra 4 years in army so other ware hero should get opportunity hold army commander position during their service period. And if government extended his service time , I am sure UNP and JVP comes and tells it illegal as past.

        • Malik

You are day dreaming pal. You comment is full of IFs and WILLs. Write the reality. Sorry to say this but if there was no SF, your so called patriotic MR would have been a “whore” hero by now.

BTW, try to be decent in your writings men. You may have received school education but your addressing me does not prove that. Anyway where did you do your schooling?

  47. Dilshan

Sarath Fonseka’s Loyal Army and Gotabaya’s loyal army has to talk to each other to cool the tension.

  48. ruwan

    Dear Fonseka.

Don’t go for just a clarification on your statement. If you not say like that, you can go the court against the Sunday leader publication. So please do the needful while making foolish statements. Then you can proof your trustworthiness to nation.
And you can give official explanation to the UN regarding the earlier statement given to the Sunday leader. The people will gather with you.

IF YOU UNABLE TO DO SO WE CAN REALIZE ONE THINK, YOU ARE REALLY BETRAYING THE ARMED FORCES

    • Malik

Thanks for the advice. We will ask SF to appoint you as his senior adviser on International Politics. Just wait till 27.10.2010.

      • Chema

Malik, your cheap reply explains you poor mentality. Ruwan is correct. Sf has to do more regarding this if his spine has not been broken by UNP, JVP , Mano, Hakkem, and Mangala.

        • Malik

Well it seems you have a problem with UNP, JVP, Mano, Mangala & Hakeem. Ok, but you have no problem with Basil, SB, Dalus, Marvin, Rohitha B, JHU, and more interestingly Karuna Amman and Pilleyan. Be rational mate. Understand who is doing more damage to this country by recruiting every thug, killer and thief in to the team. With regard to my original comment, SF doesn’t need expert advices form every Tom, Dick & Harry and he knows what he is doing like he did his job by eliminating LTTE from this land. You & Ruwan may better advise someone else pl.

      • damika

Hope you are SF media adviser, but tell SF as a former army commander, he don’t want to come to media and straggle in front of them. In his statements he said he totally responsible to the thinks happened in ground filed so we thinks his due to give clear clarifications to UN on his statements as far as concern our 58 Davison in Sri Lanka Army as well as total forces in Sri Lanka. He is the person how create this issue and I strongly believed this issue can be neutralized by the SF

If SF willing to do so I am note hesitate to vote him any more.

Thanks you for your approximant given to the Ruwan because he is represent his majority’s ideas in this comments box

  49. Dilshan

    Fonseka is a Good Man.

  50. Summa

Everyone’s now blaming for a small thing general said !! Actually he’s being modest!!! Any idiot who sees what is happening in this country including all the bad ministers their bad deeds ,ministers who cannot do their own duty but blame others, dictating ministers, president ready to accept any thief or unscrupulous man who extends him support & ready to give minister post, wasted money etc etc!!!
My goodness if MR comes again that’ll prove that the majority in SL are idiots!!!!

    • kumara

      Dear buffalo Summa

Did you Think SF did Small thinks? If some day Gota or Shavindar taken to UN custody regarding This issue, is it smaller thinks?. Or someday UN post on Economic barriers on our nation, Is it small thinks? After issuing that SF statement Europe community suspends the GSP+ for temporally is it small think?
