Registrations still on

Registration of mobile telephones despite the war end is still on.
Priyantha Kariyapperuma, Director General, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (T.R.C.)told reporters on Wednesday that this security measure was even even being practised by other countries such as India.
it also makes it mandatory for each mobile phone to have an International Mobile Subscriber Equipment Identity (I.M.I.).
Failure of such an identity number would result in the withdrwal of such mobile phones from the market.
However the problem in implementing such a scheme is because of the debate as to who would foot in the bill if a consumer is using a mobile phone which does not have an I.M.I. number, said Kariyapperuma.
This is a problem that India too is facing, he said.
Kariyapperuma said that only spurious mobile phone manufacturers make such instruments.
Each bona fide mobile telephone comes with an I.M.I. number which is unique only to it.
