US Group To Take On Sri Lanka With Satellite Images

For the first time in recent history, a United States based activist group will attempt to try a government for allegedly committing war crimes, using satellite images at an international tribunal scheduled to be held mid this month, The Sunday Leader reliably learns.
The Tamils Against Genocide (TAG) group will submit several different satellite images which showed that Sri Lankan security forces allegedly committed war crimes during the last few days of the war, at the Dublin Tribunal on January 14 and 15 which will probe war crimes allegations against Sri Lanka.
The group will show four different satellite images taken in February and March last year, which shows the alleged shelling of hospitals in the north where civilians were receiving treatment.
The charge will be based on the legal framework as set forth in the 1907 Hague Conventions and 1948 Geneva Conventions, and as promulgated in the Rome Statute and ad hoc international tribunals in Rwanda and Yugoslavia, where military attacks on protected objects such as medical institutions, in international or non-international armed conflicts are strictly prohibited.
The Sri Lankan government has however discounted the tribunal calling it an ‘international conspiracy.’

Four political offices of the opposition common presidential candidate General (retd) Sarath Fonseka) were burnt down by unidentified persons believed to be supporters of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in Hambantota Saturday night, Colombo media reported. The destroyed offices were located in Hunugama, Ranagodamune, Barawakkumbura and Abeysekeragama in the Hambantota district.
In one incident unidentified persons had also threatened the occupants at gun point and shot into the air before leaving the scene.
The southern province has been witnessing increased presidential poll-related violence since campaigning began in December.

The event taking place in Dublin, Ireland, is not a “trial” and cannot “try” anyone. It is a private event that has no legal jurisdiction whatsoever. Will this tribunal also be looking at all the horrifying allegations made against all parties over the last 30 years? I doubt it. It seems like an attempt by Tamil Tiger supporters to blame others for the disaster that their policies & actions led to.
A medley of self-appointed human rights activists, academics and journalists will take the occasion to get their names publicised while doing nothing to help bring about reconciliation in Sri Lanka.

I am sure there must also be satellite images saved of the hundreds of brutal killings of innocent villagers and bombings of civilian and economic targets by the barbaric tamil tiger terrorists. Let us see those first and then we can judge if there is sincerity in those who supply these images to TAG – and that they are not prejudiced in any way. In the absence of all of the images, I don’t think we should even bother to discuss this issue with TAG or any other terorist backed group at all.
