A Gospel Album For Seniors From The Golden Voice
There has been an overwhelming demand from seniors for a gospel album to be released by Derrick J, resident of Wantirna South, Australia. He is a well respected entertainer, known to many as “the Golden Voice,” “the Crooner,” who has been entertaining music lovers, both young and old for over 35 years. Over the years, Derrick has captivated his audience by his graciousness, warmth and passion as a performer, coupled with his rich and powerful vocal ability.
Determined to fulfil the wishes of his senior fans, Derrick recently produced and released an exceptional gospel album titled You’ll Never Walk Alone. The song list consists of titles such as How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace, Shout To The Lord, Be Not Afraid, He Touched Me, With All I Am, Bridge Over Troubled Water, You Raise Me Up, Peace In The Valley, I Believe, You Gave Me A Mountain, Hosanna, Crying In The Chapel, Just A Closer Walk With Thee and You’ll Never Walk Alone which is a compilation of favourites requested by his fans and his late mother Winifred Junkeer to whom this album is dedicated, whose one wish was to hear Derrick perform gospel music.
Her usual occupation in her later years was listening to gospel songs and she would pass on to Derrick, her favourite cassettes constantly insisting that he make an album. Even though not in her lifetime, at long last Derrick was able to fulfil her wish, and he hopes she is smiling down on him from her home in heaven.
He can now proudly add a gospel album to his successful list of albums, which he has produced over the years of which two went gold. Derrick has also released a DVD, summarising his musical career with appearances on Good Morning Australia With Bert Newton – Ch. 10, In Melbourne Today With Ernie & Denise – Ch. 9, Denise – Ch. 7, At Home With John Mangos – Ch. 7, Till Ten – Ch. 10, Midday Show With Ray Martin – Ch. 9, and now a host on Ch 31 on the Sri Lanka Morning Show.
Derrick’s musical debut in 1974 on New Faces With Bert Newton, earned him Bert’s encouragement award, which was the opening to his very successful career as an entertainer in Australia. Since then, Derrick has made a huge name for himself in Australia and his many TV appearances, broadcast nationally has found himself a large fan base.
Derrick J’s many talents broaden into acting where he has played numerous roles in Neighbours, Kath & Kym, Newly Weds, Gross Misconduct with Jimmy Smit, Sensing Murder, Ünderbelly and many more. He has also featured in many commercials such as Heinz, Fox FM, Aust Post and lead role as a doctor on city search.com commercial and many others.
Derrick J’s music has been aired on all country radio stations — Southern Cross Network in Bendigo, Ballarat and Shepparton.
