Gestapo In Action

Last Wednesday proved to be an ‘unlucky 13’ to The Sunday Leader, with the morning kicking off with its News Editor and Investigations Desk Editor receiving deadly missives from an organisation identifying themselves as the National Patriotic Force and then in the evening around 30 armed policemen charged into the newspaper’s premises in an intimidating manner and began searching for anti-government posters, supposedly being printed by this newspaper. The search drew a blank. Photo by Thusitha Kumara

MY CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL @ THE SUNDAY LEADER FOR CONTINUING TO FEARLESSLY STAND UP AGAINST THE MOST CORRUPT & VIOLENT REGIME LED BY THE HATED MR BROTHERS. THE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT FORGET THAT THESE THUGS CAME TO POWER BY FOUL MEANS AND OBVIOUSLY WOULD WANT TO CLING ONTO POWER BY FOUL MEANS. WHO CAN FORGET THE FACT THAT MILLIONS WERE PAID TO THE TIGERS IN 2005? WE HAVE ALSO NOT FORGOTTEN THE TSUNAMI HORA. SURELY SL DESERVES BETTER. WE HAVE SEEN 15 YEARS OF A SLFP LED GOVERNMENT WHICH CONTINUES TO LEAD THE COUNTRY INTO FURTHER ECONOMIC DOWNTURN.
I CAN ONLY SAY- ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

IT IS WRONG TO SAY THAT MILLIONS ARE PAID TO THE TIGERS. ACCORDINGLY ONLY 50 LAKHS ARE PAID AND THAT MONEY WAS RECOVERED FROM THE TIGERS LATER SO IT WAS ONLY ZERO MONEY PAID.

      • H.U KAHAN-Thota

You must be one of those auditors to the MAFIA who cannot count or least- interested in any counts because it seems these are the blooming idiots they have. Have you raised your point with Transparency International? Yes, I guessed right! You don;lt care two hoots about them now that the HOOTS are on you. – COCK SUCKER !!!

      • Randy Mathew

WHETHER IT WAS RECOVERED OR NOT, THE ORIGINAL CRIME OF GIVING MONEY TO THE TERRORISTS STILL STANDS. IN ANY OTHER COUNTRY, THESE CHEATS WOULD HAVE BEEN TRIED FOR BEING TRAITORS.

      • Rohan

Seriously … Are you on drugs or what ?

    • PAK

we are happy to walk free of bombs in our country now thanks to great Mahinda. sunday leader deserves this for writting lies!!!

      • Rohan

Yes we ought to give the devil its due that during the presidency of mahinda the war was over but having said that it does not give the right to plunder the wealth of country & its people. Either your oblivous to whats happeing in Sri Lanka and your happily settled in another country or you stupidly ignorant & continue to live in a bubble …

    • Johann

well said Randy I can’t agree more.

The bravery of the journalists in SL are epitomised by the staff at the Sunday Leader. What the people against you don’t realise in their small minded provincial outlook on life is that no matter who wins the election your fight against corruption will continue.

In many ways you represent the hope for this country.

    • hena gahapiya ubalata ….. parayo

      Totally with you Randy …

Be bias to them they’ll not HARM,afraid they’ll send SANTA,dance to their music and be awarded the noble prize of PATRIOTISM,But leader if you still you go with your vision statement then wansa will award you with his noble TRAITOR OF THE HIGHEST GRADE.His left with only this affordable a award at his level.

  7. BASH

It is a common knowledge that the Mt Lavinia Police is most corrupt….of course this applies to the IGP too who (like the president) will claim not to know that this happend and come out with a lame story making the public babies to believe. Why wasnt the warrant being allowed to be photocopied if genuine.

First, at least, must start filing fundamental case against the low rankers, then they will protest to obey illegal orders of the senior officers or come out with the truth

That guy who showed bundles of notes containing millions is walking free with the illegal black money and Wimal said that they will use this money for their campaign…This should be confiscated and they should be charged as nobody can use black money. This money belongs to the state now and Wimal and this guy are money launderers.

  8. SL Lover

Mahinda can only do this type of cunning job or like withdrawing security details if anybody goes against him. Mahinda is now a liability to Sri Lanka. Patriotic Sri Lankans should understand this and reject his reelection bid. MR was good to wipe out LTTE terrorism like Winston Churchill did to defeat the Nazis but will loose his reelection like Churchill did. On the other hand, SF is new and has a proven track record, like he transformed the SL Army; he will transform Sri Lanka (like Singapore sans corruption) by eradicating corruption and waste from this paradise (from caterpillar to butterfly) for ever. This is the last and only opportunity for Sri Lankans to make a change. This chance will never come again.

  9. maluman

First they throw amila dambara thero in jail on trumped up charges after he announced support for SF. Then they axe upeksha from her show for supporting SF. Then they burn opposition activists houses. Then they shoot at a bus of SF supporters killing a 50 year old mother. Then they harass private media organizations publishing the truth. What next if this criminal coward is given another 6 years?? SL will because the basket case of Asia and a complete dictatorship.

  10. Dr. Roshan m London

This is the stupidity og the police, sending off by kudu minister the kudu mudalalis and catching innocent poor, what nonsense is this> IGP is bonelss meat, shame to call srilankans, mahinda saha samagam, these fools want aniotjher term to ruin and nuy all of the prime properties in Srilanka. The man went to singapore also had carried illegal money.

  11. Shaik

I am amazed everyone seem to jump on the bandwagon and blame MR for this exercise. For weeks the Elections Commissioner has been complaining that the Police is ignoring his directives to remove all posters of all candidates. Now when the Police does take some action, instead of congratulating them for at last obeying the Elections Commissioner, you imply this is all the Presidents doing.

    • Gajaman

      Anye Shaik Sahodaraya,
we warned you not to shake.

Budu Thaathey! Monawadha Api munta karanne?

    • maluman

shanika do you live in a cave? Have you been observing the trends and stories of the SL police? They are all pro-mahinda. Today for the first time EVER i read that they arrested a UPFA supporter. But other than that, all their moves have been to support MR and harass the opposition

      • Guney

Fools like Shaik live in a fools paradise and so long they get to play with the King’s “toys to suck, they are happy until the money stops coming.
If the elections are impartial, then why is the Election Commissioner disgusted and is threatening to quit? He has courageously highlighted election malpractices and the total disregard from the ruling party’s disregard to the laws established by his department and is ending his career.

        • Shaik

Budu Ammey mokadda mey kiyanne. I never said the elections are impartial. On one side we have a corrupt General and on the other we have a near Saint. The outcome is never in doubt. It’s the fault of idiots like Guney who created the false impression that SF could win that made him contest and prompted all those adverse investigations. Now instead of this great Army hero being carried on a pedestal, he would be denigrated to political oblivion after the 26th

  12. JEREMY

Shaik you silly dont show the world your ignorance of issues. Dont you understand the difference between removing displayed posters and posters that are in a store(That is if there were any at the “LEADERS” press). What the commissioner wanted was for the police to remove the posters and cutouts displayed in public places.

    • Shaik

Thank you Jeremy for the English lesson. If you agree with the premise that posters should be removed what good is it if you’d allow the ones in store to remain. It’s like removing the posters on the wall but not taking the ones still in the bucket.

  13. BulathHapaya

This must be a new episode to that sitcom called “Allo Allo!”. I bet MR will be ideal to fit the role played by Rene’s as the name itself fits his role that he knows to do best. That is to “Renna” in public by denigrating the few good things he’s done to support in getting rid of terrorism and introduce a another sort of terror unleashed by the Third Reich.

  14. ramona

National Patriotic Force : Vigilante group

anti-government posters : Isn’t electionengineering against the law? The police must have been checking all places.

    • sinhala

You think 30 police turned up at the dailynews? or even at the Sundaytimes? besides the police left after finding no evidence of any posters.

      • ramona

Yes, official looking policemen. Did they check the computers for the posters document?

btw where are the gestapo pictures?

Go and see to the leader offices they are the shabbiest of any newspaper in the colombo. Look at the print quality of the paper its also the worst so If they really do have western paymasters they are getting a bad deal. If Norway was funding them i think they would have a better printing press then we could at least read the newspaper.

    • Rohan

Dear Gamin, If you got the guts to wish death to a newspaper, what have you done about it other than typing your comments on a site which is free of cost ? Ask your mom if she ever told you that Empty vessles make the biggest Noise

  18. Dr. Balasuriya - Kotte

Presidential common opposition candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka addressing a massive election rally at Diyatalawa yesterday (17) said, with all the corruption free Opposition leaders beside him , he will ensure after the 26th Presidential election victory , this journey which was begun to eradicate corruption will be successfully completed.

After the 26th, all types of violence which the Rajapakse rule unleashed will be stamped out and Democracy will be restored . All political leaders of the country are rallying round me in my campaign against corruption

The whole country has united to bring about the changes which can be trusted (Vishawaneeya wenasak) . The corrupt , atrocious, lawless , despotic fascist family regime’s days are numbered , he asserted.

This is a English newspaper website so either you type in English or sit under the sarong of Mahinda & learn English. Stupid moron born of motherless goat. Imbeciles like you should rot in hell …

i really worried about the situation in my motherland, completely ther is no freedom of speach and no meadia freedom as well. If it continues the country will go back again terrorism(political). actully me in UK , whenever i see this country’s politicians and their admin; i extremely wonder. how people walk and work freely and live happily without any fear. During working time i serve around 400 customers per day and none of them say our motherland (SL) is bad rather than they often ask ”why u are being here?” , what nice country u are from. We need political stability first then harmoney among the three race. so i ask always God pls give us the right President to lead my country.

  21. veeraya1

in a few days Sri Lanka will have a former General in power who willcleanse the county of thuggery, coruption etc.etc.

  22. sangeetha

You have taken the stance of being one of the only dissenting voices. It is a hard and danger filled journey as we saw when Lasantha was murdered. I salute your courage. I am worried about the safety of your journalists. This is the regime of despots. Freedom is but a shadow land in these times!
