Janashakthi Insurance PLC recently donated scholarships to the children of war heroes of the Sri Lanka Air Force (S.L.A.F.).
Under this project a total of 50 children of war heroes killed in action, disabled in action and civilian staff of S.L.A.F. received scholarships sponsored by S.L.A.F. Seva Vanitha Unit and Janashakthi Insurance.
Present on the occasion were S.L.A.F. Commander Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke, S.L.A.F. Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson Mrs. Nelun Goonetileke, Janashakthi Insurance Director Ramesh Schaffter, Sales & Marketing General Manager Ravi Liyanage and several other distinguished guests.
Under this scholarship scheme, 50 students, based both in Colombo and largely in the outstations, will receive a grant of Rs.10,000 each to be used for their educational needs.
Mrs. Goonetileke said, “I have no doubt that these 50 children will benefit from this scholarship scheme, and, look forward to a greater collaboration with Janashakthi in future years.”
Liyanage said that these scholarships further strengthened the close knit ties which have existed between S.L.A.F. and Janashakthi for the past 10 years. “As a responsible corporate citizen, it is our duty to care for the valiant security forces of Sri Lanka for having liberated this country from the clutches of terrorism. Peace dividends are now being enjoyed by every level of society, thanks to the dedication and sacrifice of our security forces.”
Another education oriented C.S.R. initiative is the C.T.A. Schaffter Award conducted by Janashakthi Insurance together with Wayaba University.
The Wayaba University was the first ever higher education institution which recognised the importance of insurance and valuation in today’s context and introduced it as a part of its curriculum.
About 25 graduates undergo the course which covers the areas of insurance and valuation. Now in its second year, this is yet another example of a private-public sector C.S.R. partnership which gives recognition to those who add value to a profession. The three top students who excelled in the B.Sc (Hons) degree in Insurance and Valuation received a gold, silver and bronze medal in addition to the cash rewards.
