Jumbo Cabinet Costs 4 Billion A Year

The upkeep of 132 ministers in Sri Lanka is costing the country a whopping four billion rupees annually, Common Opposition Candidate Sarath Fonseka has said.

“In contrast, the budget allocation for the entire Samurdhi programme which provides welfare to some nine million of this nation’s poorest families is only Rs. 10 billion,” he said.

He pledged to disband the present jumbo cabinet and limit the number of ministries in his cabinet to bring the cost down to a manageable level.

Fonseka added that India has only 48 ministers to govern a population of 1.2 billion.
He has also pledged to reduce the taxes charged for every litre of petrol. At present, the government earns Rs. 65 in taxes from a litre of petrol.

    Oooops!!

    - Budget for health of 20 million citizens Rs 5 billion only! No wonder we hear stories such as no surgery at National hospital forshortage of equipment!!

-Education ministry given only Rs 3 billion – for the future of the country having slashed Rs 72 million!

-The nation building minister ( one of 5 !) sprends Rs 250,000 amonth for his car and Rs 100,000 for his telephone bill. Should be renamed (Nation Burning Ministers !!!)

-20 ministers having overspent the budget have asked for supplementary budget of Rs 2.52 billion. Part of the overspent is to buy luxury cars !!!

-150 million spent on presidential advisors

    - Foreign minister spents Rs 100 million for foreign tours

    - Rs 100 million fraud at Foreign employment ministry. In ’08 had 160 million profit and now workers retrenched as no money to pay them!

    - 40 ministers who own residencies in Colombo claim Rs 100,000 monthly allowences and another Rs 35.,000 for electricity and water bills

Will this curse end on 26th???

We need more ministers otherwise how we develop our country superfast. If MR wins we will have 225 ministers. We need another 40 ministers for IT developments.

So we will become the best IT country in the world.

Is there any chance that Prof Mervin Silva become Prime Minister.?

It would make a big difference in SL.

    • Sure thing we need 225 ministers 25 prime ministers and about another 200 presidential advisers. And this is all paidl by Ma-Hinda’s fathers money right????

      • No No,,It will all be paid by Mahinda’s robbed and corrupt money that rightfully belongs to the SL people and should be spent on the SL people.
These Mahinda Paraiahs and his scoundrels should be taught a good lesson ..Let SF win the election first,,then we can sort these criminals..That is if they don’t flee the country in anticipation of losing the election.

Indeed Mervin Silva is more than qualified to become prime minister of this goverment! It can happen!

  3. If Fonseka wins the presidency, he will have to buy all 225 MPs to keep his government running, because he has no party and no seats in Parliament. It would cost eight billions and not four buy them all.

Fonseka would never hand over power to an executive Prime Minister. He will want to keep all the powers to himself. Listen to what people in the army says. Look at the way he ran the war. He himself said; he had no operations director. What more than that to prove this point.

Fonseka will not be a puppet. He will not handover power to RanilW or any other. When you talk to people in the army of what he had done there, one can visualize what Fonseka would do as President. All those rummers that Rajapakses said to have done would have been a child’s play compared to what you can expect from this man.

Don’t get fooled by pet talk at times but see what he had done.

What part of the care taker cabinet didn’t you get? Do you have selective reading and hearing problem? Try hard as you might you can’t have an excuse for the people showing up at Fonseka’s meetings.
I heard the Sandanay promised 5 kilos of rice for the people around Kollonnawa, to attend the rally, which none of them got. Stop wasting time here and brace for the SF mission. Might want to book that flight. Airports shutting down for the politicos as soon as the results are out. We only promise you a speedy trial, no violence may even make an exception to the state of the Death Penalty just for the megalomaniacs.

      F**k you Leela

    • Dissolve parliament my sweet Leela and re-call new erections. Once erected he can have your advice.

Cost of corruption $500 million, cost of maintaining the cabinet $10 billion, cost of using state resources 1 billion, cost of damaging Sri lanka’s future $1000 billion.but Mahiinda’s defeat PRICELESS!!!

  5. Chutti

Listen friends, everyone needs a title, so what else todo. This is certainly better than keeping all the portifolios, as stated by SF. This shows the hidden agenda of a dictatorship.

    • sandman

a dictatorship at this juncture would be better than the absolute corruption, lawlessness and nepotism going on under this administration surely…………………….

Mervyn is such a psychopath and social retard… I feel so sorry for his family. No point in having bought luxury houses down Park Road with stolen money if your brain and personality has more in common with a rotten egg.

The up keeping of 132 ministers in Sri Lanka is costing the country a whopping four billion rupees annually is not sufficient enough, Sarath Fonseka we must increase it to 200 to complete MEGA projects as per the extended version of the Mahinda Chinthanaya with 35 members how can you do it?.You’ll have to get wimal and champaka on your side they have the remady and candy to do it..We don’t mind starving or begging at any cost to see our nation rise and not fall as EDI AMIN says 27% PATRIOTS.

  8. tikiri banda

What is your limit of the cabinet ? 150
You never mentioned that, a typical corrupt politician.
You need to satisfy your corrupt army conies as well as UNP, JVP & LTTE cronies. !!!!!

SO we do not trust you master traitor.

  9. jayathilaka

There is a bunch of minister for one ministry for example there are about 6 minister for re-builing nation ,media etc etc.these ministers have no specific task to do they just sit and talk and draws sallaries from public money in addition to other perks.it is an utter waste of public money which must be stopped by reducing the number of miniters to mot more than 20 .

its a pity that the common man, in my opinion does not understand this. hopefully I am wrong here so as to prove the opposite, which will only benefit the poor folks of the country by realising whom they should cast their vote at the Presidential Election. Unfortunately we will remain a nation of “Wasi petteta hoiya”. What we need is to educate the people so as to have a broad margin of common sense , sound General knowledge and Discipline!!!! May there be Peace to our nation and God Bless Lanka……

This amount could provide employment opportunity to 40,000 people in this country. How could we make the lawmakers to think of the country first….

When will our people think of the country first. If all the people of this country think of the country first ………….then all would pay Personal Tax to the government a sum and make the government accountable for all expenses. Since a few are paying taxes the balance the majority of non tax payers do not care about this.

So how could we bring a change on this….. Think a moment………….please. Hope for progress…..

  12. I totally agree with this point. We do not need such a large number of ministers in the cabinet. I hope that MR realizes and change his cabinet this time. This happens in small Governments as they think that they have to give positions to all those who supports during elections. I know that is wrong.

Now is the time to suffer !!!

  14. nirmala

No one should blame the government because it wants to speed up the developments thats why! Infact India is less developed country than ours. They should learn a lesson from MR and appoint at least 500 ministers considering the size of the country! These figures doesn’t include the amount they rob from public funds I guess. Only the money spend to keep these “Worms” and their family members alive! Soon this will surpass 150 mark. Then all can book at least 7 floors in a five star hotel in US in next UN summit.
I have a proposition to MR that if he doesn’t have portfolios to give consider these
    1) Public toilet ministry- Manusha nanayakkara
    2) Ministry of Brothels – Upeksha swarnamali
    3) Outdated filmstar ministry -Malani fonseka
    4) Ministry of robbing public money in daylight – Sajin Vaas gunawardana
    to name a few!
