Fonseka Pleads For Outside Help, Looking At Asylum
Defeated presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka who is reportedly looking at seeking temporary asylum, is appealing for international intervention to pressure President Mahinda Rajapaksa to maintain democracy in the country.
In an interview with an Indian news channel, NewsX last week, Fonseka maintained that, “governments across the world must intervene to ensure democracy is established and maintained in Sri Lanka. Otherwise he is going to be a military dictator and the end result will be same as we saw happening in other parts of the world.”
Fonseka’s call to the international community was made as he stretched towards India for assistance to ensure his safety.
However, according to reports emanating from India, the Manmohan Singh-led government is likely to snub Fonseka’s plea on grounds that the Rajapaksa-Fonseka tiff was an “internal” matter. Meanwhile, The Australian newspaper in a report quoting Fonseka said that the former Army Commander was considering seeking temporary asylum in Australia following his election defeat at the presidential polls.
In an interview with The Australian at his home in Colombo, Fonseka was quoted saying he had spoken to the US and British embassies in Sri Lanka and was also planning to speak to the Australian High Commissioner about the possibility of temporary asylum. (MM)

We are told that all retired army officers are bound by the army rules and regulations for three years since retirement. During his campaign SF had brought up wild allegation against Sri Lankan security forces. SF said he would court marshal a lot of high ranking officers for involving in politics when he wins the Presidency on 26th. Now that he lost it, he should be questioned about his conduct while he was CDS. And about all inappropriate things that came out from his foul mouth. He should be questioned about those white flags etc and court marshal for divulging state secrets.
Giving out a country’s military secrets by a commander will amount to treason. If SF provides any kind of information to the West during the time he is staying in Sri Lanka, the government has the right to arrest him and bring him to court. Perhaps, that is why he is trying to rush out of the country, to a safe haven from where he can provide damaging information to the West (either true or false) against the Sri Lankan President and the Defense Secretary. It’s pathetic to see SF demonizing the President; the one who brought peace to a country suffering from thirty years of civil war. More than anything else, SF should get some counseling to take care of his mental status and to bring him back to being a normal human being.
I cannot understand why SF is seeking asylum in other countries. If his objective is to escape prosecution then there’s no better place than USA from where it will be impossible to extradite him as he is a permanent resident and USA laws will not allow it. The same goes for his relatives too who are implicit in the crimes with him.

Stupid Fonseka (SF) and his anti-national clique got their math wrong. They didn’t understand that 80% of Sinhalese hate IC, Norway, Evangelists, NGOs and those that supported them. Sinhalese hate them because they knew that it is they that supported LTTE and dragged the war for thirty years.
This is how Rajapakse won: Sinhalese consist of 75% of the population. And, of them, 85 % live in villages. And 80% of them had cast their vote for Rajapakse because they did not like SF ganged up with LTTE sympathisers, TNA and the said parasites. In addition 25% of Tamils and Muslims also voted for Rajapakse because they were patriots who wanted stability in this country. It is those patriots that pulled Rajapakse win through. In the final analysis, only green blooded (Sinhalese) and Eelam supporting Tamils voted for SF. Go to Sinhala villages, talk to them and see for your selves.

Fonseka is no fool. He knew he was the ultimate hero for all Sri Lankans who rejoiced at the defeat of the LTTE. And, he would have remained as such until UNP, JVP, SLMC and TNA came along and convinced him with the figures gained in 2005 that he (SF) was assured of a majority to beat MR. The Sri Lankans are far more astute than that as events show most of them switched sides or abstained. With a bigger turnout, MR would have won with an even bigger majority.

Observers were of the view that the points highlighted by the Elections Commissioner clearly indicated that he has had to announce an election result not in keeping with his conscience, under duress. All we can say is that truth is like a rubber ball in water – it emerges every time you try to suppress it.
Leaving aside the other extremely serious allegations, which are emerging, this statement by the Elections Commissioner alone would have been enough to declare the election null and void in any other country which is truly a practicing democracy.
I feel sorry for the election commissioner. You cannot blame the government for his plight. It is TNA that have to be blamed for it. Not to mention the other Sarath. They wanted to appoint two members to the constitutional council. That is the problem. But nor MR had won the Presidency, he will win the Parliamentary elections as well and change the constitution.

Stupid Fonseka (SF) can only blame him selves. SF had forgotten that it is President Rajapakse that made him the commander of the army just thirteen days before his retirement. SF had forgotten that that if not for that act, he would have been another retired Major General. But Sinhala people remembered it very well. They were sad that SF bit the hand that fed him and joined the LTTE sympathisers that ridiculed him. That is only one reason why he lost.

No. Read the statement of EC given above carefully, which is made at the time of announcing election results, and in front the President and a large audience. This statement, among other things clearly says ” I could not even ensure the safety of even one ballot box.” What does it say. The ballot boxes or simply the vote was rigged. So face the truth. This was told before the President and later we all saw and heard it on TV. He (The President) did not deny it and how could you or anybody else deny it.

SF is brutal and currupt fellow who contested to the highest post in the country. He had a dirty character from his youth. Specially in the army up to the retirement . Crimes he has done in the past should be brought before the law and punished him to set an eye opener to the similar characters in the country. No body should be above the law.

HE HAS 40 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN THE ARMY, WITH THAT EXPERIENCE HE WIPE OUT WHOLE HE LTTE. WHEN HE WAS ATTACKED INSIDE THE ARMY , IF HE HAD DIED, WILL ANYONE COULD WIPE OUT THE LTTE UNTIL NOW????
It is not just SF personally went and wiped out LTTE. Could he have done it without the political and diplomatic help of the Govt? No. Could any other general have done it? Yes. We have well trained and very much talented generals in Sri Lanka. Could we have had done this with another president? The facts speak for themselves. We had so called great presidents but LTTE grew under them. The height of it is when RW was the prime minister. LTTE could bring in their “airwing” and under water attack crafts.
With SF and RW combination, the dead LTTE can be revived and brought to an unassailable state at the same speed as its demise.
But the victory certainly belongs to both President and SF. There is no doubt about that. However, the going forward certainly belongs to MR. Southern people know very well. They are not idiots. They made the right choice. On the other hand, Tamils, as usual, had their bet on the wrong horse.
