Kandy Schools Shut Due To Deyata Kirula Exhibition

Some 60 schools have been closed in Kandy due to the ongoing Deyata Kirula exhibition, the Ceylon Teacher Service Union (CTSU) told The Sunday Leader.
The schools have been closed for a period of 13 days till February 15 on account of the recently concluded presidential election, Independence Day celebrations and the ongoing Deyata Kirula exhibition.
According to General Secretary, CTSU, Mahinda Jayasinghe,
“Neither the central government nor the provincial government are concern about the children’s education but are concentrating only on political gains.”
Meanwhile, President, Ceylon Teachers Union, Joseph Stalin accused the government of failing to protect the education of the children in the country.
“All the schools in the Central Province were closed for more than two weeks at the end of last year due to a possible swine flue outbreak. As a result their third term tests were held last month and no sooner the tests were over once again 60 schools were closed for the election, independence celebrations and now for the Deyata Kirula exhibition,” he said.
He added that with the impending general election, these schools will once again be closed for election related activities.
Is this how the government is protecting the children?” Stalin queried.
Meanwhile Education Ministry Secretary Nimal Bandara when contacted by The Sunday Leader agreed that the children’s education would be hampered due to the closure of schools at regular intervals.
“But when certain departments request us to close schools, we are compelled to grant approval to their requests,” he added.

I remember the year 1968. I was in Gr.8 class of the Vidyartha College where my class teacher was Miss.Godamunne(Mrs.Weerasooriya). We had eight periods every day. Mr.Perera was also one of my teacher and unfortunately i couldn’t remember the subject. Normally he came to the class with some questions of the previous day’s news of the CBC. I remember one such a question was the 1st heart transplantation in the world which took place in South Africa. The operation was performed by Dr.Christian Bernard.
When our younger generation is fooled the corrupt governance is an easy job because the Andare’s are ruling the country. While the children are wasting time at home they are eating time looking at the television programes I don’t know whether they get something important for their bright future. Our time suld be managed and used effectively for the Economic development of the country. The “Basics” must come from the School. Some Professors of our country came to the State Media and asked to vote for a particular candidate. The school children must be equiped to analyse and scrutinise the Environment surrounding their ultimate destination. If their Time at School and Home are very limited to useless things it is very easy to rule the country.
