(February 05, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) Recent events following the Presidential election have put you on the negative limelight, due to your confusing and contradicting comments made head down without looking at the audience.
Lots of accusations are leveled against you. Some have been denied. The manner in which you are responding to the issues surrounding the conduct and the outcome of the election is further confusing the citizens like me. I plead with you to look at the face of the world at large and tell the truth to the following serious questions.
Question 1: According the ‘The Times’ report filed by Jeremy Page ‘The President’s brother and adviser, went to see the Independent Elections Commissioner just before the latter announced the final results. The ministers denied that Basil Rajapaksa was meeting the commissioner, and said that he was asleep at the time, but Ms Wenger said that she saw him leave the Commissioner’s office immediately after the press conference’.
My simple question to you is: Did Basil Rajapakse meet you just before the election results were announced? If so, what was discussed or ordered by him?
Question 2: Sri Lanka Guardian in its exclusive news reported that you and your wife were held in captivity in the Presidents official residence Temple Trees and intimidated to obtain your consent to announce the government favoured comments on the outcome of the election and also to get your resignation announcement withdrawn.
In the public interest and to earn the public confidence, would you kindly confirm by looking at the audience straight on their face without fear or subdued voice, whether this story is true or false.
Question 3: The Lankanewsweb in its latest news headlined ‘A group of Army personnel had imprisoned Election Commissioner’s wife and daughter at Water’s Edge on the election day’.
Once again in the public interest, will you be able to confirm this story is true or false.
I understand that you are not permitted to travel overseas until the General Election is over. If this is not true, will you be able to travel to the UK or any other healthy democratic country and make a public statement on the issues surrounding the election. I am prepared to fund your first class flight ticket for your visit, as I consider your public statement in a respectable place without any fear of recrimination will be very useful for Sri Lanka’s future.
Finally, with the very serious accusations levelled against you on the conduct of the Presidential election, how do you expect the citizens of Sri Lanka to consider you are independent to conduct the forthcoming General Election? Will you make a public statement to confirm what action you will be taking to overcome the difficulties you have encountered during the Presidential election to ensure the difficulties are not repeated with your backing?
To answer your questions in public?? Are you serious? And risk his life? Why don’t you just write to him in private and support him rather than challenging him unrealistically?

Elections Commissioner himself confirms elections results as dubious –Lakshman Kiriella
(Lanka-e-News 02.Feb.2010 2.10 PM) UNP M.P. Lakshman Kiriella at a Press briefing on the 01st said , the Elections Commissioner himself confirmed that the elections result was surrounded by doubts and suspicion by stating that he had no power even to safeguard a ballot box at the Prseidential elections 26th January. In such circumsatances , how can you accept the election results?, Kiriella asked.
Even the SLFP members don’t accept these results, he added.
The 17th amendment to the constitution was kicked aside by the President. The State media used 99 % of its time on election propaganda programs for the President and even the Supreme Court orders were disobeyed, he added.
We do not accept the results of the elections. This whole election was wrapped in lawlessness, vote rigging, and murder threats against opposition parties. Gen. Fonseka’s office was totally destroyed by the Govt. goons and murder squads. In Baddegama electorate, 48 offices were devastated. State assets, State officers and State media were abused to the full without any regard to the laws or the directives of the Elections Commissioner, he pointed out.
The Hotel where the General, the common opposition Presidential candidate was staying being laid siege;when a panel of lawyers tried to meet the elections Commissioner at 10.00 a.m. in the morning of the elections day being refused, and the Elections Commissioner’s signature not anywhere in the elections result sheet all point to the fact that the entire election process and the results were distorted , doctored and rigged, he emphasized.
Kiriella further stated that preparations are being made to annul the elections via the Courts. The day following the elections, was celebrated by the Govt. over the blood spilling of a Buddhist prelate. A powerful Govt. politico of Nawalapitiya along with his gang went and allegedly killed the chief incumbent Ven. Matara Vimalananda Thero of Tambiligama Baudhaloka Vihara . Until now, no arrests have been made despite the fact that the vehicle used by the assassins was discovered and identified, he lamented.
Some time ago, Sunday Leader used to refer to General Sarath Fonseka’ s estimation of LTTE casualties and say that he was “Arithmatically Challenged”.

Dayananda D has decided not to RETIRE changing his attitude to do so after the most fradulent presidential election.
We did sympathise with you even on that day after the election, because you spoke of the ‘aathathiya’ that you had been subjected to and how there would be no one to look after you, should any harm befall you. And, as many people remarked, the plight that you were in showed in your face that day.

These type of accusations had been there after every election whether UNP wins or the other party wins…Ballot papers are printed under high security or cannot be stolen out of the polling booths, in every P/booth there are agents of each candidate and in every ballot paper there is a security No. , like on currency notes, what SF can do it is hand over this to the proper legal source for an impartial inquiry…..Re election – Many learned who contribute/write here does not understand the True picture (and blindly criticise and throw mud at either SF or MR.) or what is happening in Sri Lanka, I live in USA & TRAVELLED TO S/L during OCT/NOV/Dec 09 and visited North/South and East and can give an impartial report: the weakness of this President ,is that there are some members of his family who try to ruin his good reputation , there is some sort of corruption in some of ministries and in the public service like what happened during UNP rule, there is no whatsoever accusation directly at the President….this President is loved by the Sinhala,muslim and a section of the tamil population as he had been a very strong leader who loves his country, people are happy that there are NO BOMBS on streets and no passport is needed to cross Anuradhapura or to the East, I noted that specially mothers are happy that children and husbands are safe to return home, this is after 30 years of WAR, there a lot of development taking place by way of Roads and infrastructure. looking at the situ I expected MR to score over 60%. The reason why Sarath F. did not get more votes was because of JVP ( the sinhala people hate them and they command about 1% of the vote) Most votes SF received was the UNP vote base , I noted people no longer support this great party UNP, as people feel UNP & SLFP policies are one and the same and SLFP & specially MR’s policy on Terrorism is much stronger. My thinking is that the next General election will see around 62% or even more for the ruling party. Unless UNP get rid of the corrupt old politicians like Ravi K. and starts a new journey it is very difficult for them to come to power or get a larger piece of the cake.

Premadasa was one figure and held far more power as an individual than MR. At that time there was no private electronic media, no internet and in short no real public political dissent.
