Military Police Manhandled Fonseka
Sri Lanka’s military police forced their way into a room in which defeated Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka was having a meeting with Rauff Hakeem, Somawansa Amerasinghe, Sunil Handunetti and Senaka Silva on Monday evening.
The forced entry at the Opposition Alliance’s campaign headquarters where Sarath Fonseka worked out of along with the Leader of the Opposition and his other alliance members, took place around 9 pm on Monday evening. The Military Police announced that they were there to arrest the retired General; Fonseka refused telling them he was not a member of the Army anymore and that as a civilian he will answer to the Police force and not the Military Police. His reasoning however did not move the Military Police who insisted that they had their instructions urging the General to come with them. Fonseka however was steadfast in his refusal.
The atmosphere changed for the worse when Major General Sumith Manawadu entered the room. General Fonseka asked them for the charges. Major General Manawadu was to waffle his way out and his answers were incomprehensible to the on-looking Hakeem, Amerasinghe and Handunetti. Earlier when the Military Police had barged in, they had asked the politicians present to leave the room. Rauff Hakeem and his alliance partners flatly refused.
Major General Manawadu was a man in a hurry: he ordered the Military Police to remove Fonseka forthwith. The Military Police urged the General to “come” to no avail. The General stood his ground. Manawadu ordered that he be removed “even by the scruff of his neck”.
The General ordered his former colleagues “do not touch me – I do not come under your purview” at which point Manawadu lost it and yelled at the Military Police to “Take Him Away – Now”.
What followed was a humiliating experience which General Fonseka perhaps had never thought of and an experience that received Rauff Hakeem’s’ most scathing condemnation. Somawansa Amerasinghe was equally vociferous in his condemnation of the manner of the General’s removal. The man who ended terrorism had ended up being treated worse than a terrorist was how he put it.
Mangala Samaraweera described the drama with the General being physically manhandled – protesting all the time and managing to kick out at the Military Police, ensuring in the process that a name tag in the name of Nilantha Pathmal – one of the Military Policemen – becoming dislodged and which the Generals’ staff later found. Mr Samaraweera said that this was not an arrest it was rather a kidnapping.
With the General bundled into a waiting van which was parked within the interior of the Office complex, the Hakeem, Amerasinghe and Handunetti trio found that their exit was blocked by a team of over “100” Armed personnel. It was at least they said, an hour and a half before they managed to leave.
General Fonseka’s present location was a mystery. Mr Karu Jayasuriya told us that normal best practise would dictate that at the least the General’s wife and family would have been told where he was being held. Mr Samaraweera told the press that Mrs Fonseka had been unable to even hand over prescribed medicines to her husband as she was in the dark as to where he was being held. In desperation she was considering handing over the medication to the ICRC in the hope that they would be able to deliver her husbands’ medication.
General Fonseka who has held the attention of the press ever since the end of the war will be launching a Fundamental Rights application to secure his release while the Opposition alliance have planned a peaceful protest – a satyagraha – in Maradana for tomorrow morning – ensuring that the Fonseka phenomenon is unlikely to step down as the number one news item for several weeks into the future.

Praba faced his Karma on May 2009. Fonseka is facing his Karma now. Its not going to be too long for others who violated human rights to face their Karma…
Bottom line is: Those who think they are the executive powers better let innocent people to live freely, let them enjoy their rights like others. Or be ready to face Karma in future (turn back and see the history) those days it takes time, but nowadays your karma reaches you in quick time (technology has developed)
Killing terrorist Tamils is not Karma. It is cleaning up.

SF should have kept his vertebrate straight and walk like a man. SF should not have acted like a monkey. He should have acted like a General and face up to the realities of life. Be a man SF; tell you wife not to shed tears because they would not help.
We wish to remind SF how the younger son of Ehalepola acted when he faced the gallows. Then again SF is not facing gallows; most he will face is a jail term or loose his titles or both.
Put yourself in his position. If you are falsely arrested by a regime that is known for treating murder as a way of life then you too would have protested.
Do not look at the individual. Look at the dictatorship and financial ruin that this regime is bringing to our country. I wish the people of the country will be lead by someone to rise up and throw out this manic deprssive family.
shame on the government, this is how the show the grattitude
lol SF showed the gratitude threatening to take MR to prison and kill Gota during the election
He only said people who robbed will be taken to task. Don’t put words into the mouth. If the hat fitted MR & Gota could have put it on
SF should have kept his spine straight and walk up to the van like a man when he was arrested. He should not have acted like a monkey. He should have acted like a General and face up to the realities of life.
Leela… Y military police came to arrest SF? Are you living in Srilanka? How many people were were arrested like this and disappeared? U better think of reality of a monkeys life
The Root Problem is Sarath Fonseka is a Portugese Descendant and Evil Foregin Buddhism in Lanka.
Dilshan dude you problem might be you are a descendant from bunch of donkeys and still dreaming to achieve Peelam
Dilshan what are you. A pure bred Sinhalese. According to S L Gunasekera there are only pure bred varieties of canines.
anil, a syphillitic beagle once crossed a local Pariah, they had their scans done at the appollo, and they wanted an abortion done by a Doctor named Adolphus Hitler, The Doc, paid them a few bucks and pleaded keep the cur, because the world needs some fun with an animal like Dilshan, Rabid and Racist.
Actually reason may be one of these though he ended up in a wrong place.
Sadistic personality disorder is:
A) A pervasive pattern of cruel, demeaning, and aggressive behavior, beginning by early adulthood, as indicated by the repeated occurrence of at least four of the following:
1. has used physical cruelty or violence for the purpose of establishing dominance in a relationship (not merely to achieve some noninterpersonal goal, such as striking someone in order to rob him/her).
2. Humiliates or demeans people in the presence of others.
3. has treated or disciplined someone under his/her control unusually harshly.
4. is amused by, or takes pleasure in, the psychological or physical suffering of others (including animals).
5. has lied for the purpose of harming or inflicting pain on others (not merely to achieve some other goal).
6. gets other people to do what he/she wants by frightening them (through intimidation or even terror).
7. restricts the autonomy of people with whom he or she has a close relationship, e.g., will not let spouse leave the house unaccompanied or permit teenage daughter to attend social functions.
8. is fascinated by violence, weapons, injury, or torture.

Guys beware of Gota. He will crush your bones.
My Pseudonym , is Panishkar, I am Timothy YU, I am not afraid of the Rats that threaten democracy. I met this General when he was young officer, all Sri Lankans should be proud of this Valiant Gentleman, today is a day that he needs us and we need him. Stand with him and bring him Home safe to his wife, his children, grandchildren and to the Nation. General Maluwaday, you have shown disrespect to your superior, including all the poor Millitary officers bought by the GOAT. Robert Mugabe used poor idiots like you and today they are latrine cleaners, because the country does not have enough of resources to bribe the entire nation of CONNIVERS. Kehelkola, we’re coming for you, pray that your government will remain eternally in power!
That was his younger days you knew him.. you monitor him widely what is he after now. This is too late to act , but seems in right time.
Mahinda treating to Sarath Fonseka in this manner. Whole world can think about how he was treated and how he is going to treat to minority Tamils
MR a person who responsible for the country , he should and will act accordingly.. If SF terned up side down to see dollers.. will end up with results..
If SF surrendered in a dignified manner, no one would have had to man handle him. This is an uncouth man behaving in an uncouth manner. What the article does not mention is that SF started using foul language and name called the President. If the man had any sense, he would have surredered peacefully, and not try to hang on to desks and chairs and kick out at the officers who were trying to arrest him. He had even kicked and broken a window of a government vehicle!! There is no dignity in this man. What a shame and come down for an ex general!!! This was the man who was only yelling and shouting a few days ago, asking the government to come arrest him!!! When they really come to arrest hm, the man acts like a bloody coward!!! I suppose one cannot expect more from a , man who was never in the battle front but gave orders from a far away office!!!! The real heroes of the war are the men and women who were in the battle front risking their lives every minute. This man never risked his life in the battle front!! The onl time he even came close was when a suicide bomber tried to blow him up in Colombo…far, far away from the battle front!!!!
You need an arrest warrant to arrest any person accused of a crime. You cannot simply pick up someone during a meeting.
This act was done with malice and should be treated as malicious. SL is within the nations of the commonwealth, we have to use all necessary means of legal procedures. Otherwise, it would resemble somewhat the Stalinian era. Sri Lanka is not Russia.
SF should not have acted like a monkey. SF should have kept his vertebrate straight and walk up to the van like a man when he was arrested. SF should grow up and act like a General and face up to the realities of life.
Perhaps he should start writing a book about his past. No point of his writing about the future for it is only a mirage. I would definitely buy it.
Leela
With citizens like you it will be only a mirage that Sri Lanka will prosper. Everyone is talking about what SF did or did not do while in the background the MR family is robbing and running SL to the ground.
The state that MR has put the country in the last 4 years, future generations will have to suffer. Only people who benifit (illeagaly ) by the MR administration supports him. The day he looses power you all will drop him like a hot brick. You are all oppertunist and pretend to be loyalist to the country.
Rajapakse regime is famous for kidnapping, abductions and White van disappearences.
This is not new to the Rajapakse brothers and they are fully armed to commit any crime.
Then what about SPD, it is the most relevant here. SPD is a mental illness.
What we should understand here is, a mentally subnormal person should not rule the country. Majority of the people got this fact & rejected SF as their president. Beware of SF unattended to his illness. He will more than talk the walk if he was elected. In that case People believed MR is millions times worth as their leader irrespective of all the irregularities of his government.
Well read
Shiva, you are insulting Rajapakshas with fabricated stories because they terminated your killer terrorist leader Pirabaharan. The bitter truth for you is many innocent poor Tamil civilians are very happy about annihilation of LTTE now they are free and stepping into developing there provinces.
Rajapakse won the Presidency with 1.8 million majority. So, dogs may bark but the caravan will move on.
As I understand the agony that people like Shiva is going through is one and the same: Tamils are seventy million all over the world but they have no country of their own.
However much you grumble about illusory things and made up stories, Tamils will not have an Eelam in Sri Lanka. That is for sure. So why not settle with the reality.
Are you talking about Shiva or SHIVA?
i think Leela doesnt have any knowledge about Tamils history. But when reading her comments i understand she is an animal lover. Better go and work in blue cross
Do you know real history about Tamil origin and how they have spread from Middle East region to Asia(India). Even India is not there place. That is why they are trying to have a place for their own.
This website has it all http://www.dbsjeyaraj.com/
As a former commander of Sri Lanka Army, SF should know his boundaries to address public and media. He can’t take without responsible he should think about the country first then his private or political prospects, But During the pre election period and day after over election, his media conformance and mass rally address by him were consist with lot of harmful thinks to country dignity, ware crime and national security, harmonious of deferent nationality and he tried to divide Sri Lanka army in to two political group, those thinks should not append , but it was, that’s sad situation , however the political leaders around SF should responsible for those thinks mainly , Mangala, Anura Kumara Disanayaka, Ranil, Hakim, Manoganason , Sunil hadunethiy,
In my opinion if SF has violated some country lows and orders, he should punish by the existing low. As people what we should do observe this investigation have been conducted fair and reasonable matter. As a Sri Lankan we should not forget SF did grate job to eliminate terrarium in Sri Lanka that due respect should goes to Him and the all forces in Sri Lanka
I believed SF should not entered to politics, what was happened, he destroyed his good name he build during the last 40 years at just only 45 days , as grate person he had to lot of thinks to this country , but now 58 % peoples are rejected him as a political Leader that’s the reality,
Gen SF has all the qualities to become the President of SriLanka. Because he is very straight forward he is facing this unwanted trials. Pre. MR is also good but people around him are misleading him.
dar editor, whats happend to my comments, why you bloled my comments
The problem here is not Sarath Fonseka being manhandled by Manawadu, but the SL Army which we expect to set high standards in discipline, resort to such low levels, all because of corrupt politics. No doubt, having seen the tough character of SF, his subordinates in the army may have had a tough time working with him. But on the other hand same qualities of him as Army Commander helped SL to get an unforeseen victory against LTTE. Hence it is not done for a junior officer to resort to such insulting behavior against his former Commander, war hero and the only soldier to get promoted to the rank of General, while in service.
The way I would like others to see this is not by the names, but as a General and our former Army Commander and a junior officer. Sadly it never happens in our society. We are so blindly bonded to our chosen leaders we don’t see them any more as human beings who are bound to do both right and wrong but as Gods who do nothing wrong, ever.
Whats the problem he has portraid himself as “the He Man” so he was manhandled. Do you expect the Military Police to “womanhandle” him?
You sure have a point. He was woman handled once and wouldn’t like it again either.
Ammata siri , Foh..

Ausiie showbox!!!
Yes definitely it would have happened if Fonseka resisted arresting. Those officers had to do their job and Fonseka knew about it very much better than us.
All these repercussion are due to your egotism, foul mouth and greediness.
Now put up with consequences.
Hmm mouth watering! .-). Thanks for sharing
The whole problem in Sri Lanka is that its inhabitants lack the wisdom knowledge of Lord Buddha’s Theravada Doctrine. The popular Buddhism what prevails now in the island has uprooted the original Theravada doctrine completely without any trace. It will take many many years for the people to understand the truth. That day will come after a massive destruction. After this day only a handful of good people will be left in this country.
Nothing wrong with our understanding on Theravada buddhism.
The Problem is that in our country, Sanga Saasana is not democratic enough. People get confused when they see a yellow robe. Rules for sanga discipline should be further relaxed so that Each member (monk) is given the (human) right of choosing the colour of the robe he preffers to wear.. Then the confusion of ordinary people will diminish. They can recognize the blues, reds greens etc. Then we know that the Doctrines preached by the others are from Theravada buddhism.
