Build A Sustainable Peace

A country cannot escape its geography nor its history. But it can shape its future successfully through religion.

When we gained independence in 1948 we were proud that unlike some other countries it was won peacefully. However, later the abominable civil war came and now after 30 long years of war we are at an important juncture of our history.

All of us have to take our share of the blame. Politics is a dirty game and many opine that it is the culprit. We cannot sustain peace unless a concerted effort is made. It is of paramount importance that we realise we are all human beings and should not be given various labels which cause polarisation of our society.

Peace education is a must in schools, and children and adults should be given awareness of the value of such education.

Today we have a relative peace. There could be people  who are dissatisfied because they think they are made to feel second class citizens. But the underlying fact is we are all human beings in a pluralistic society, entangled in rich diversity and each one living for a short period — the impermanence of life.

Any one born to this world has the right to live. Let us live and let others live because it is not within our power to enter this world or leave it at our own will, unless we commit suicide which is a sin. We cannot take away another’s life. It we commit heinous crimes where do we go after death? With the growth of years if we mean well we should live our religion more because the answer lies there. We cannot escape  it.
