2010 Masters World Cup In Brisbane, Australia

The Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association (CICA) has announced that the Masters Indoor Cricket World Cup will be held in Brisbane, Australia later this year. This is hosted by Cricket Australia which has merged with Indoor Cricket Australia with approval of the ICC.  The Masters World Cup is an event that gets priority in the World Indoor Cricket Federation (WICF) Calendar and we will see some of the best and experienced players participating from countries such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, England, India and Sri Lanka.  CICA will give all official updates accordingly.

The Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association is gearing up for this prestigious event by conducting an Open  Masters Indoor Cricket Tournament commencing March this year.  The Technical Committee of CICA will be identifying experienced players in the age group of 30 – 45 to enter the tournament from clubs, private and mercantile sectors. The selection criteria for the players will be decided by the Selection Committee of CICA  and these players will represent the National Development Squad. CICA will monitor this squad with regard to game perfection, physical fitness and mentally preparing players to the international level of indoor cricket performance with required facilities and exposure.  The final squad will then be identified for National representation. CICA believes that some of the talent from 2004 World Cup held in Sri Lanka will be a part of this tournament. It would be an opportunity for players to re-live the magic of the sizzling finals between Australia and Sri Lanka back in 2004.

There has been a steady flow of International participation from the Asian region at Austasia Sports Complex with players from India representing different states and clubs. CICA is grateful that Austasia has seen the growth in international sports tournaments and has once again stepped forward as the facility provider for the game of indoor cricket. The facilities available at Austasia which are of international standard is a huge plus for the Association as it benefits the players tremendously.
