Seven Soldiers detained for the murder of Lasantha
Seven soldiers belonging to the Sri Lanka Army’s Military Intelligence Unit will continue to be detained as investigations continue into the murder of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge. The seven suspects are being held for further questioning by the Terrorist Investigations Department and the Criminal Investigations Department.
The seven soldiers have been separated from an original seventeen taken into police custody as evidence unfolds which may link the soldiers to the murder of Wickrematunge, detectives said.
Lakshman Hulugalle, Director General for the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) yesterday said that ten out of this seventeen have been released and are free to go back to their duties.
Hulugalle further denied that the former head of military intelligence, Major General Amal Karunasekera was last week placed under “Open Arrest” and is being held at the Pannagoda Army camp as part of investigations into the murder of Wickrematunge.
Sources however revealed to The Sunday Leader that the investigation is also focusing on the Head Quarters Battalion Account which is directly under the purview of the sitting Army Commander whose prerogative it is to dispose of the monies in this account. Sleuths are investigating why and how General Karunasekera transferred a significant sum of monies to the army’s Head Quarters Battalion Account during the period when Wickrematunge was assassinated and Sarath Fonseka was Commander.

I am positive they were not exposed by the by the Sunday Leader and had no personal motives, of course they may have been trained and ordered to carry out such missions. The investigations of the murder of a much respected journalist should not be hijacked as a political football. At the tme of the murder there were witnesses who made statements that the two motorcyclists involved in the shooting came from and returned to the unit commanded by Sarath Fonseka. Sarath Fonseka may not have given the order but he has a lot to answer and should be subpoenaed at least.

This is yet another election gimmick. There are a lot of desserters who returned due to threat of being cout marshalled. They do not want to be in the army and therefore misbehave. So here is a way to kill two birds with one stone.
1. Frame a case against them on false charges and “show” to the voters that the government is doing something.
2. When (If) the case comes to courts it will apart and by this time the real culprits would have left the country without a trail and live happily ever after in a foreign country.

Whoever committed crimes must be held accountable and punished. It all started with escalated with Sinhala Only Act though previous Citizenship Act (1949) and colonisation of North and East started the conflict. Between 1956 and 1983 communal riots were master minded by the successive governments, Opposition Parties and Buddhist monks to suppress pecaeful and democratic protests staged by the minorities.

Buddhism is the most tolerant religion in the world(before Hinduism). No country has allowed , Hindu temples or Buddhist temples next to their sacred places. You cannot take a picture of Lord Buddha or a Hindu god to the Middle East. But in Sri Lanka you can see mosques and Churches next to Buddhist sacred places. Middle Eastern wars are all because of religions. Ireland has blood-shed for the last 100 years because of two sectors of the Church. Before the end of human civilization there will be massive wars between the Muslims and the Catholics (and Christians). Buddhism will be lost before that because they will never fight. Islam was the religion of Muslim traders who came to Sri Lanka. Buddhists were converted to Catholics by the Portuguese by threatening the parents. Looks like Fonseka had a lot to hide. Perhaps thats the reason he took to Politics after his fallout with Mahinda and Gota, To be in power to cover up all his “sins”. To me there is no other sane reason for him to be so hell bent in getting political power, I dont buy that he wants to be the saviour of the Nation even though given that he has a very big ego problem. By the way has the Leader followed the trail of the 550 odd dollars, If they are numbered then they had to come originaly from a bank, this will open a whole new can of worms, once they have names and dates.

Much talk about KP s moneies abroad, To freeze his accounts or accounts under his various aliases, First he has to be tried in Sri Lanka and a court has to issue an order that his accounts have to be frozen, this will be presented to the Swiss Govt thru a lawyer in Switzerland. The Swiss Justice Ministry then according to its merits will order the banks concerned to freeze all accounts. I am surprised that the permanent rep in Geneva has not informed the Sri Lankan Govt about the process, or for that matter former employees of the Govt n Geneva now working for the Govt. Is that nobody can be just bothered about all this.

This is what Gotabaya Rajapakse said about Sarath Fonseka, not too long ago, “these achievements would never have been won without the experience , the knowledge, the bravery and heroism of Lieutenant General Sarath fonseka. I am proud of the army commander for doing such a tough job” -Thanks to the pervasive Sri Lankan media.
Until Sarath Fonseka said he would not betray his religious conscience in revealing who asked the Tamils to come out with white flags and who ordered to kill the surrendered.

Protest against three Majors General at the Ananda-Nalanda match
The police was called in to intervene in case any fighting erupted at the annual Ananda-Nalanda cricket encounter that took place last week. A tense situation has erupted at the venue when supporters of General Sarath Fonseka had raised objections to a proposal made to acknowledge the services rendered by three old Anandians and Army Majors General Prasanna Silva, Chagi Gallage and Kamal Gunaratne at the annual Ananda-Nalanda cricket encounter.
It is learnt that while the cricket match was in progress, the organizers have stopped the band that was playing in the Anandians’ tent and had called on the three distinguished old boys, Army Majors General Prasanna Silva, Chagi Gallage and Kamal Gunaratne, to come on stage for everyone to thank them for their services rendered in defeating the LTTE.
At that time a senior police officer who had arrived at the venue before the three majors general had said, “The ‘four star’ general, who always came for the match when he was in Sri Lanka is not here today. The most distinguished old boy, who completely wiped out the LTTE is today in jail. It is this ‘four star’ general whop made these three majors general. These three betrayed that great leader. Did Ananda produce only these three? How many other war heroes have been produced by the school? How many have sacrificed their lives for the country? Therefore, we are not ready to show our acknowledgment to these three majors general who betrayed the general. The true hero is in jail and these are just cardboard heroes. Long live our ‘four star’ general.”
Interestingly, no one had disturbed the speech made by this senior police officer and even the four “papare” bands that were playing in the tent had stopped. After hearing the speech, the three majors general had returned to their seats as if nothing had happened.
The match organizers had requested that all old boys from the two schools who are also forces personnel to not bring any fire arms into the match venue and had also requested the police to be on alert.

I salute that honest and brave senior policeman..He said tghe truth and we don’t need lickers and suckers to say what the govt wants to hear.
The truth and the devil its due must also be a priority and I feel it was well said…Not only about SF, but also importantly about each and every serviceman and civilian that would have given his/her life or got injured during the LTTE battle…All are heroes with or without stars and general..No need to be Pandang Kahrayas.
