MSD Officers Arrested Over Brawl in Kuliyapitiya

The Kurunegala police have arrested two officers from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) on Monday for their alleged involvement in a brawl that took place between UPFA supporters in a restaurant in Kuliyapitiya.

The supporters engaged in the brawl are reportedly affiliated to two government ministers who are contesting the general election from the Kurunegala District. The brawl took place on Sunday. The police took charge of the firearms in possession of the two MSD officers.

According to the police, the two MSD personnel had not been at the restaurant when the brawl had broken out. However, they had later fired their guns and threatened the supporters of one Minister.

Why were they not arrested for carrying firearms, presumably not licensed in their names, and for discharging them in public?
Is not this, a non-bailable offence?
