IGP Ordered to Remove Propaganda By 15th

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake yesterday (12) ordered the IGP Mahinda Balasuriya to remove all illegal banners and cutouts by March 15th.

Dissanayake also asked the IGP to take into custody SLTB buses that display advertisements of various political candidates.

IGP Balasuriya attended the meeting between the Election Commissioner and the Secretaries of political parties contesting at the general election.

During the discussion, the IGP informed Dissanayake that the police department did not have a sufficient work force to remove all the banner, posters and cutouts. The Election Commissioner requested all party secretaries to request their candidates to remove all posters.

UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha said that posters were the best method to inform the public of the candidates and their preferential numbers as advertising cost a lot of money.

It was finally agreed that one party office be set up for each polling booth and the posters, banners and cutouts of the candidates be displayed in that office premises.

DNA representative, Anura Kumara Dissanyake requested the Elections Commissioner to look into the functions of the state media to ensure its impartiality during the election period. Dissanayake said he would raise the matter with the state media heads when he meets them next week.

Propaganda should not be removed !

How the hell politicians are supposed to do their advertising ??

    • Bonapart..I suggest you honestly think what the rules and the law is before you comment.
It appears that you impulsively commentr for the sake of doing so, with no substance or facts behind your remarks.
Sometimes it is OK not to comment, if you don’t need to.
After all we have a huge resepct for great names like Bonapart and we just hope that you also may have just something to offerhuh!!

      • Bonapart

Bonapart being a hero depends on how you look at him. It may be a great name for the people who are on the side of the conqueror but may be a a name which should be despised to the people who became his slaves ! suit yourself !

Now everybody already have decided the banners are bad and shouting their heads offf against it. But nothing changes.

Therfore it is required to rethink about the way we look at this problem , analyse it to see why we are not making progress in either way. So my comment is to initiate that dialogue.

But unfortunately you already have a preformed concept on this matter. So what you can do is only to say ” Baka ..Baka … ” like a frog in the well !!

Frog in the well are all those who believe the Rupavahini and daily news, the country is going to ruins… wait and see

  2. Why don’t we remove the IGP and the other puppets by the 15th instead of the banners and cutouts,Í think that will be a more constructive thing to do..

Even during the presidential election, such orders were given, but were ignored. The Rupavahini & SLBC too carried out massive propaganda for MR. But now the supreme court has refused leave to proceed with a fundamental rights peitition against both. The court, instead, has ordered the AG to look into fair & equal coverage. But the AG is powerless to enforce the law. The law enforcers – the police – will do nothing, like earlier. This AG-supreme court-police ‘musical chairs’ will go on.
