The ‘Risen Lord’ Strikes Back!
Early last week, Lalith Perera offered, through a close associate, to sit down with The Sunday Leader. We agreed to record the interview and print it verbatim as a Q&A. Perera then appears to have changed his mind. He has refused to speak or write to The Sunday Leader, and will only meet our reporter if he needs “spiritual counseling.”
An Attack On The Helper Of The Helpless
I can not help but respond to the article appearing in The Sunday Leader of 7th March 2010 titled “The Fraud Of The Risen Lord” by Michael Hardy.
To say the least, such an article is shocking! The writer has stood in judgment of the said Bro. Lalith Perera and publicly slandered him. At this point I would like to ask, what right has anyone to stand in judgment of the work of Faith done by a man of God?
I know many people who attend these Wednesday meetings of Bro. Lalith Perera at the St. Peter’s auditorium, who have only good reports and personal testimonies of healing, or miracles received. Why would anyone want to destroy the hope that he brings to the many thousands who attend these meetings? What alternative does the writer have to offer (for free) to these hurting and helpless people? If he could offer them solutions to life’s problems and a solid hope, at absolutely no cost, then I would applaud such a man.
Coming to the point of the many thousands who attend these meetings, could they all be mistaken??…. and why do they keep going back? Then there is the Bro. Rector and the staff of St. Peter’s College who endorse these meetings by allowing them in the College premises. These are learned men who are held in high esteem, well respected in society and even by political hierarchy. Does the writer imply that these honourable people who are allowing such things to take place under their very noses, are being deluded?
People pay huge medical bills for hospitalization and do not complain even if the patient dies in spite of all the best medical care our Nursing Homes have to offer. In fact, a patient can not even be admitted to a nursing home for medical attention, without paying a fair sum as a down payment. Why is it considered a fraud if a man who gives people more hope than medical science has to offer, receives donations? “Is not the labourer worthy of his hire”?
About ‘flying to many countries,’ is it not possible that the air ticket and accommodation for such a trip is provided for by the said countries? While I was in Australia last year, I met people who would give much to have Bro Lalith visit them. Not just one person but many in Australia are willing to pay for his ticket in full if they could only have him minister to them for a week.
About the cures of cancer or the ‘Words of Knowledge’ given by Bro. Lalith, why would one think it impossible that the Lord our God could use a man to do such things? I have heard a great man of God say that “God’s method is a man.” The Bible records that God even used a donkey to speak to a man, so why should He not use frail humanity?
Finally, I implore this great literary genius, to kindly refrain from destroying the faith and hope of innocent and hurting people who have found hope in God through the ministry of a mere man, or he may find himself up against God Himself.

In Defence Of Bro. Lalith
Apropos the article on the above subject in your esteemed journal of last Sunday (7th March 2010) by Michael Hardy, the so called Catholic (may his tribe decrease), his article is an insult to the tribe of scribes who always check on the veracity of what they write or publish. The write up is full of venom and it appears that he is in the pay of someone who is angry with this religious movement or Bro. Lalith who leads the group of Charismatic Catholics.
This Charismatic movement, popularly known as “Movement of Renewal” is a world wide movement and has been here in Sri Lanka for over three decades and has the blessings of the Church in Rome and the local church as the bishops would testify. In fact it was at its 25th anniversary in 1996 that the then Archbishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Nicholas Marcus Fernando, admitted in public that if not for the movement (by then 1996), broods of Catholics would have fallen victim to Fundamentalists. It has come a long way since then and only Hardy who has awoken from his ‘Rip van Winkle’ slumber recently would have got excited about it.
If Hardy is a good journalist, he should have checked on his findings before rushing to print to satisfy someone angry with the Renewal Movement or Bro. Lalith Perera, who may have bribed him to write his cock and bull story. If the church is tolerant with the Renewal Movement, nay bless its progress, how foolhardy is it for this Michael to chastise the good work of Bro. Lalith as if his patron saint the Archangel, has prompted him to pour out the diatribe on page 10 of The Sunday Leader last week? I am sure it is Michael’s opposite number Lucifer who has inspired Hardy and aided his venomous pen.
It is good for Hardy to know that the Scripture says that in the last days the Holy Spirit will pour forth His Spirit in such a way that even babes and old men would preach. The movement of Renewal is the work of the Holy Spirit, and to speak against it would be to speak against the Holy Spirit. I would warn Hardy, that the Holy Writ ( which he does not seem to know at all, though he calls himself a Catholic) says that to speak against the Holy Spirit is a sin that “WILL NOT BE FORGIVEN” – Hardy may have to at the end commit suicide like his pal Judas who betrayed his Lord for a few silver coins, because his sin like Judas’s is unpardonable.
There are hundreds and hundreds of men and women who have returned to the Lord from a life of sin, once meeting the Risen Lord via this movement. I would like in passing to mention that when I visited my son in LA, a couple of years back, a Lankan family from Dehiwala now domiciled in New Jersy, phoned me to request that I meet Bro. Lalith back in Sri Lanka, and thank him for the wonderful conversions that have taken place in the US after his sermons mainly of the Risen Lord. I was told that over 300 (US students mind you) undergrads go for daily mass after listening to Bro. Lalith’s talks.
I did meet Bro. Lalith back home at our Annual Pentecost Rally at St. Joseph’s last year and Brother Lalith’s humble reply was “let them thank the Risen Lord and not me, for it is He who has touched them.” So half baked journalist Hardy is well advised not to underestimate people by scratching merely the surface and worse arriving at wrong conclusions. Hardy reminds readers of those blind men who described the elephant in different ways having touched the animal only. Hardy will have to make his Easter confession today and beg pardon from the Risen Lord for insulting Him.
This good Catholic seems to doubt the Resurrection too. Of course from such a baptized pagan we cannot expect anything better than such an article. He should immediately apologise to Bro. Lalith against defamation of his character and I hope the Editor will carry an apology from him soon. There is so much that so many Charismatics will want to say in defense of Bro. Lalith, but for the moment suffice to say that any Catholic Bishop or priest who has heard Bro. Lalith preach would vouch to the fact that neither Bro. Lalith nor his preaching has the qualities that Hardy has only exaggerated for journalistic sensation. I am a journalist myself and I know how to sensationalise untruth to appear as truth.
Those who have met the Risen Lord via this movement and changed their lives and those who have been healed by the Risen Lord, of manifold diseases, (not duped by Lalith as Hardy claims ) will take up cudgels with Hardy for the false accusations against a man of God. The need to day is for more committed people like Bro. Lalith and not half baked sensationalists like Hardy whose story sounds like one from LaureL & Hardy.

“Of course The Lord has a strange way of working. That is the reason for children die in every three minutes due to starvation in this world. There are many moderate Christians who are able to see beyond the established box. They have the guts expose the shady deals which take place under the cloak. In Australia over 140 priests were prosecuted for raping young lads inside the churches. Very recently Vatican had to admit the year long molesting of children by priests in God’s houses where they took refuge. As long as you people keep on hammering the old songs you will never win the hearts and minds of ordinary people. Do not use 3000 people gathering at St Peters collage to measure the strength of the faith. People always flock into places in thousand to experience a new vision. That is the human nature. In India, Swami Maha Rishi Mahesh had over million followers until he was caught red handed for money swindling.
We need people like Michael. That is the reason I admire Michael Hardy’s courage.”

Good for you, Hardy. At last someone has revealed what’s going on at the so called Risen Lord Community.
I strongly believe that you cannot fool all the people ALL the time. The day of reckoning has come. Like so many other cases: Lalith Kotalawala, Sarath Silva etc etc…. timely God shows us that justice will be meted in this world.
As for LP, he should NOT be surprised at what’s written about him. These things have been told of him by the Catholic community who does not stand for his emotional hype prayer sessions.
A circular by the Archbishop recently referred to this too, banning such behaviour in churches — which LP and his community were trying to sabotage.
Yes there were priests involved with LP but most of them have left the RLC – and I have heard very shocking reasons given.
Jesus Christ walked on this Earth – a simple man. He never boasted about his KNOWLEDGE (scientific or not). He actions and speech were never arrogant. This cannot be said of LP. We are all called to be the followers of Jesus not to be Jesus or someone even more.
As for his followers – we cannot expect anything more from them than for them to cry “persecution” . As all followers do who are brain washed. I have heard them talk about LP and it repulses me.
Dear followers i do hope you will soon open your eyes to the truth – to the true God — the Jesus of the cross.

Michael Hardy Responds…
The more we learn about Lalith Perera (who is certainly not a “Father,” as his nickname Lalith Thatha implies), the more obvious his charlatanism becomes. Indeed, many in the Catholic Church of Sri Lanka — including prominent members of the Church hierarchy — have long considered Perera a renegade evangelist more interested in personal self-aggrandizement than in supporting the mission of the Church. According to an investigation by The Sunday Leader, the schism between Perera and Church authorities came to a head last fall with the installation of the new Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Ranjith. One of Archbishop Ranjith’s first actions upon assuming office was to summon Perera for a personal meeting, during which the Archbishop reminded Perera of his allegiance to the Church and gave specific instructions about what services the Community of the Risen Lord (CRL) could and could not perform.
The Archbishop communicated these instructions to every parish in Sri Lanka in his October 7, 2009 circular entitled “Concerning Various Movements and Services.” In this circular, which is clearly addressed to the CRL and similar “praise and worship” groups, the Archbishop anticipates many of the criticisms of the CRL contained in last week’s article. Reproduced below are several excerpts from the circular:
“The so-called ‘Praise and Worship’ elements are not allowed during the entire rite of the Mass. Inordinate and loud music, clapping, long interventions and gestures which disturb the sobriety of the celebration are not permitted. It is very important that we understand the religious cultural sensibility of the Sri Lankan people. Majority around us are Buddhists whose culture of worship is thoroughly sober; and Muslims and Hindus too do not create commotion in their worship. In addition, there is a strong opposition to the Fundamentalist Christian sects in this country, and we as Catholics, have been striving to explain that Catholics are different from these sects. However, some of these so-called praise and worship exercises seem to resemble more of the Fundamentalist religious exercises than those of the Roman Catholics.”
“In some of the para-liturgical services people nowadays tend to become extremely verbose and vocal. God speaks, we need to listen; and listening needs more silence and meditation than cacophonic exuberance.”
“Liturgical blessings are reserved only to liturgical ministers; i.e., bishops, priests and deacons. Anyone may pray over another. But it is earnestly recommended not to use gestures that lead to illusion, confusion or misinterpretation.”
“Parallel Sunday services indirectly nurture personality cults and therefore lead to cracks and divisions in the main body of the Lord in the parish. GIRM 2002 No. 95 says ‘Thus they (lay people) are to shun any appearance of individualism or division, keeping before their eyes that they have only one Father in Heaven and accordingly are all brothers and sisters to each other’.”
Given the exposure of Perera’s heresies by no less than the Archbishop of Colombo, we at The Sunday Leader wonder how St. Peter’s College — which claims to be an orthodox Catholic school — justifies providing Perera with a platform for his weekly faith healings. Is St. Peter’s College Rector Rev. Fr. Travis Gabriel a member of Perera’s personality cult? Does Fr. Gabriel endorse Perera’s controversial teachings? After repeated inquiries, The Sunday Leader discovered this week from Felicia Adihetta, a close associate of Perera, that the CRL pays St. Peter’s College an undisclosed amount of money to use their facilities on Wednesday evenings. Adihetta refused to say how much the CRL pays, but the sum must be substantial for St. Peter’s to sully its reputation by playing host to this disreputable organisation. The CRL claims that its donations are carefully tracked and responsibly disbursed. If so, why won’t it say how much it pays St. Peter’s?
Even more disturbing news reached us this week. The Sunday Leader learned that a woman in Dehiwala, the mother of an eight-year-old child suffering from birth defects, has been regularly attending the CRL’s prayer meetings, hoping for a miraculous cure for her son. Perera himself is said to have promised this poor woman that he could heal her child — as long as she kept attending the prayer services. This is but one example of the false hope Perera dangles in front of his suffering disciples to keep them in his charismatic thrall. Perera must thank God every night that he lives in Sri Lanka, where there are so many suffering people for him to rob and deceive. Perhaps the only thing crueler than what Perera’s traumatized followers have been through is the expectation of supernatural intervention that Perera promises them.
During last Wednesday’s faith healing, Perera responded to The Sunday Leader by citing Psalms 54:5 “He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them.” If exposing the fraud of a charlatan is evil, then we are happy to take the consequences. Which, however, is the greater evil — warning Sri Lanka about a personality cult, or actually leading that personality cult?
During the service, Perera went on to defend the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, citing the notoriously unreliable website Wikipedia.com. Perera even made the audience chant sentences from the Wikipedia article as if it were the Holy Scripture! Of course, if Perera were really interested in investigating the Shroud’s authenticity he would have done more research than a five-minute Google search. Placing his trust in Wikipedia does not say much for Perera’s power of discernment.
Needless to say, I stand by my reporting.

The crime then is inviting people to believe in a God who intervenes supernaturally and perform miracles here and now.
Mr. Hardy are you implying that God is dead? Are you saying that God is only a concept to define our sense of morality? Are you implying that anyone who says and believes otherwise is a fraud? If so, even Jesus Christ is a fraud.

This alone shows your motives and your hypocrazy. You are just all out to give negative news on the community and do not want all sides of the story. Now we know who and what your paper is and I appeal to all memebrs of the community not to buy this paper for your homes or offices and never to advertise in this news papers. YesI too was a regular reader of the leader because the articles were interesting. But now I know how they twist around stories just to make sales. This was just a publicity stunt which went wrong. I have stoped buying this rag, urge others to do the same.
If all of you had listened carefully to Mr. Lalith Perera’s response which he gave to his community (only to whom he needs give explanation to ) last Wednesday you will know what a decent person he is. A true child of God!.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
During the last weekend’s residential retreat of the servers of the Community of Risen Lord wherein over 500 servers from various parts of Sri Lanka gathered, Brother Lalith, went on to describe how we, as people who have been chosen to be in a journey with the Lord, should respond, in the Spirit, to attacks of this nature. He gave example from the Scripture (2 Kings 18:36 -New International Version) which says “But the people remained silent and said nothing in reply, because the king had commanded, “Do not answer him” and taught us how we should enjoy God’s peace and silence in the face of such ruthless attacks. That is exactly what we must do at this time. I was really surprised at the the way how this man of God, responded to those who attacked him in a senseless manner with so much of peace, calmness and joy in his heart. He reminded us that if God wants us, as a community, to walk through the Gethsemane, we have to do it, because there is no glory without Gethsemane. Jesus too had to go through it before His glorious resurrection from the dead. Let us do our part as God asks us and HE will look after the rest for us. Bro. Lalith took the example from the life of the Blessed Mother, how she was silent and yielded to the will of God when she faced crisis situations in her life. The dark clouds that were looming in our minds because of this senseless attack in the Sunday Leader on our Community were cleared after the advice Brother Lalith gave us. We were indeed filled with joy and peace in the face of these persecutions. I also must make a special mention here that during the final sessions of the retreat, the Rev. Father who celebrated the Holy Mass dedicated it to Mr. Michel Hardy and asked everybody to pray for him so that he would start using his pen for the Glory of God soon. So, as people who have chosen to be in a journey with the Lord, let us be silent in the face of these attacks even if they become double or treble in the forthcoming weeks. As a Community we are responsible only to God and to the Catholic Church of Sri Lanka, and not to anyone else. We will do that in the Spirit. So, lets all be silent, smile and enjoy the peace of our Saviour and let the attackers carry on their own fight with the Lord God Almighty.

To one who believes, no explanation is required, but to one who does not believe (atheist) no amount of explanation or arguments will do any good. Let’s close this subject from here and leave it in the hands of The Almighty God, to let His Will be done. It is clear that you are an anti Christian extremist. I sugest you look after the political priests in the temples and the healing claims at Kataragama.
The healings come from the increased faith we have in the Holy Spirit. The meetings are a Praise and Worship of the Lord and reading and understanding scripture as it is already written. The faith comes from a renewed understanding of the word of the Lord and getting closer to the Lord. The Healings come from our belief and faith in the Lord. Not from Lalith or from anything else.
Please come and see for yourself. I only started following the CRL because I had also heard rumours and through sheer curiosity wanted to witness for myself what was going on. Being a traditional Catholic it took me a while to get used to this way of praising God and praying. Also, before I started my journey, I had never even opened the Bible. I only heard the scripture read in the Gospel on Sundays.
My whole life and prayers have changed now. The love and acceptance of others is amazing. My life is so much more spiritual and peaceful.
Lalith has always maintained that this is not a healing service. That the healing comes from our faith in God and only each and every one can create that for ourselves if we believe.

Just came back from the news, and I heard that, The high court has ordered to publish a apologizing note on the FIRST PAGE on Sunday Leader after Fredrika has accepted that she is guilty of publishing a article insulting to a High Court Judge. So much for the UNBOWED AND UNAFRAID reporting, which are not getting validated before going to the print. (I think Sunday Leader is going bankruptcy, coz I have never seen a newspaper going so cheap level and so much hullabaloo)
Fredrika has mentioned that she realized later about her mistake and apologizes to the High Court for the damage she caused. Wow!! If the editor is on the loose, I got nothing to say about her team… shame on you!!!

01. Go to a place where something good happening,
02. Pickup something, which even they don’t understand much about what’s going on. and just take a few notes which they hear.
03. Come back to office (by the time they come back they dont even remember what were they listening)
04. Take a look at the confusing notes that they took,
05. Setup the article which they don’t even know what they are writing. (if the content are a little less to fill the page, add a little more to it out of their confused mind set.)
06. Publish it on their problematic paper, and try to create a HYPE,
07. when the time bomb which they were making, got blown out in their own hands. try to cover it with more confusing and misleading articles.

What use are of priests who study and are trained in seminaries for long years to do priestly duties like Jesus Christ, if individuals can do the same thing by being only charismatic? This is why the Church is having less priestly vocations now. Are seminaries neccessary?. Is it worthwhile spending money on them? We catholics are confused.

Daniel, I am very glad with your reply to think that at last somebody has responded with clear thinking from a catholic thinking point of view. Both the ” Theologically Educated ” and the “Charismatic” preachers if they are really doing Christ’s work must be Christ like in all what they do. They must be living and working with the poor common people and the sinners. Preaching from pulpits in churches or from elaborate stages with music etc to masses is not God’s work. It is said that when you pray only God must hear not for others to know that you are doing so. The catholic church must clarify it’s stand on this issue.
It is also stated that when we sing and praise, we pray twice.

It should be noted that Bro.Lalith clarified on 10th mar at the S.P.C meeting the fact related to Holy shroud quoating London Telegraph news paper, BBC and discovery channels-Furthermore he clearly explained how the foreign missionary work is done. How many dozens of catholic premiseses are used throughout srilanka and abroad in conducting CRL’s worship meetings on weekly basis. But just one venue (ie SPC-hall) has become an issue now.
It has just become a customery practise to call all elderly as Thatta, Amma in the circles of CRL (Anton Tathta, Keerthi Thatta, Mercia Amma etc) but just only for Bro.Lalith. He clearly said on 10th march meeting at SPC that in this world, he is responsible,answerable and accountable only to the church (bishops),and the CRL community . But not to any newspaper. And anyone can obtain any information related to CRL’s activities from Tabor (office).

I would really like to see, my original post which I posted yesterday is on hold to be administrated by the site admin, which clarifies the facts about the Shroud of Turin, and the Links to the online videos of the Discovery Channel Program, which interviews all the scientists who were involved in the C14 testing, and displays how all the testing has being done, and what are the new evidence, I wonder why it’s not appearing on this thread. Perhaps the site admin can answer to that.
Cos If I am not mistaken, one of the head scientist (Dr. Ray Rogers) who refused to believe that the C14 was not accurate, finally accepted that it might not be accurate just 5 days before he died. but he published a research paper before he passed away about the new findings by leaving the research with leaving his work with one of his good friend to be completed.

There is nothing wrong in it. RLC Prayer meeting is already approved by top to bottom. Even Priests & Nuns and approx. 30 to 40 % non-catholics are participaing. When RLC visited Jaffna, Mannar, Mahu during war times, the People, Priests, Nuns had asked them to stay there and continue the Preaching & Praise & worship because it was so powerful. They even said “HE IS GOD’S MAN”. Even educated people, Priests in countries like Australia, US, UK, Singapore, Canada, ME, etc are so happy to listen to the Preaching via internet by RLC because of the INNER HEALING they get.
These people in foreign countries only send tickets etc. & invite RLC to conduct this prayer service.
Even young boys & girls here & in these countries have given up drinking & smoking because of this Prayer service. So MY DEAR REPORTER, we will help RLC in whatever way we can to continue this service to change the balance young girls & boys and those who are silently suffering.
Lord please give more & more strength to RLC to conduct this service with more & more people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Something that all Sri Lankans should realise is the absurdity of Catholicism – the fact that Catholics insist on getting ALL their information about the Bible from old men who like to play with little boys’ penises. Does anyone here understand that?
I think the only thing we can do is just say that Catholics must be mentally sick. I figure that’s an accurate statement, seeing as how they think they’re Christians and not a one of them has ever cracked open a Bible to find out what they believe in. True Christians who read the Bible know that there is only one advocate for confessing our sins. 1 John 2:1 says, “And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and He is the propitiation for our sins.”

As accusations of historic sexual abuse by Roman Catholics emerge in another European country, the Vatican has insisted it has dealt with “the very serious issue” promptly and decisively.
After recent revelations of widespread abuse in Ireland, and claims of similar mistreatment of children by priests in Austria and Germany, Catholic bishops in the Netherlands have now set up an independent inquiry to look into allegations there.
More than 200 reports of abuse have been made to a victims’ support organisation in the last few days.

Yes, I have been to the Community of the Risen Lord meetings and retreats.
I cherish those moments as some of the most precious moments in my life. Though I can’t attend now my heart is with you all.
I think Mr.Lalith Perera is a wonderful man. Truly a man of God.
I visit many churches from many denominations. I have been to meetings of renowned speakers from Billy Graham to Benny Hinn. Undoubtedly, Mr.Lalith Perera is the best. He is one of the greatest teachers I have ever heard . I don’t consider myself or my learning even worthy to comment on him. Even now I wish I could speak with him once in a while as I am speaking to you.
Truly the people of this community are privileged in a very special way.
But, since one is asking the question, we have to keep in mind that he too is a man.
We must look into the wonderful holiness and purity of GOD within the teachings, whether its Lalith Perera or anyone else’s, But not into the rusty containers that hold this pure water which is a man.
We must learn to look into GOD and the lord Jesus through him but not stop at him. He must be the marker that points your soul to God and finding GOD must change you to see the heart and need of every soul; with love and compassion.
You must learn who GOD is.
Only till then will a man strive to look for happiness in other ways.

In regards to your next question, “ understanding the reality of the mind”’ is simply saying, the way one’s mind sees “what’s out there”. Your mind is like an antenna searching for the deeper understanding of the mystery of the origin of the universe which has fascinated the human consciousness from the beginning of recorded history.
It is a timeless inquiry to find the nature of God. As I have commented before you can approach the question in three levels of understanding.
Let me briefly give a very short description of this. When we say God, our minds conceive an identity with attributes of God suggesting to the mind that it is something that can be grasped.
We try to grasp something that is much larger for the mind to conceive. This is a mistake. This is where most misunderstandings take place. Since there is an identity with attributes we think we know something about it. God is not a thing, a being or a noun. It does not have any attributes for all attributes are human. God is above it all.
God should never be conceptualise in any way. For example, when you say “creator” God is limited to our perception to creation. When you say “Almighty”, this almightiness is limited to what our mind can perceive. This is the same when we call him “One” or “He”, all these are attributes given to God by us so that our minds can receive him. So the nature of God cannot be named. The closest we can go is to call God endlessness or boundlessness. This is why our early Jewish forefathers use the tetragrammaton of Y-H-V-H. This is often referred to as the Hashem, the name. So God is neither an absolute truth or an illusion, because in reality God is above explanation.
But he can be experienced.
Dear sister/brother, all faiths have different levels of understanding God within them and so I have reserved many commentaries for the reasons of the enormity of the subject, and also because some of the profound teaching that come in deep studies can only be explained in and appreciated within certain committed schools and also because I am not a teacher but a student of it.

Dear Sunday Leader – For many years we (as a family) have been avid readers of this paper for simply one fact – it was (and is Hopefully) the only paper that dares investigate and publish on corruption and fraud in SL.. It has worked in the interest of the community tirelessly and even sacrificed it founder Editor for the sake of Truth.
Sadly we see a change in the writings of this paper in recent times. The writings against the work that God is doing through Mr Lalith Perera is only one such example. I have not attended the services conducted by Mr Perera but I have met many who have, and have experienced the greatest of all miracles – a changed life in our Lord. We endorse and reiterate questions asked by Ester Henricus in her response to your article – Yes why is it not possible that indeed this man has been asked by God to do His work?. We fail to see what the Sunday Leader is investigating in this instance? there are’nt hundreds of people banging their chest cos their monies have been stolen like in the Golden Key case??? their maybe discrepancies in expectations, for when God talks of healing His priority is to heal the soul where as mere mortals expect bodily restorations first – for Gods word say “what is it if a man gains the whole world but loses his Soul’ – God is looking for souls to heal and that is the work that is taking place here at these Services. So what, may I ask again is the Sunday Leader investigating and on whose behalf. If I may repeat it is very unclear what the Sunday Leader is trying to investigate in this case and very disheartening to those of us who look to the Sunday Leader for Truth and unbiased writing.
A word of ‘caution’ to Mike…you have just created a wave of Christians to have you as number 1 on their prayer lists brother and God who has heard their prayers may turn His Grace upon you…..and you like the great St Paul will be the biggest testimony to the power of God changing lives at the services of the ‘Risen Lord’…..so all in all whilst some of us are very disappointed with the S/Leader this just may be God’s way of bringing you to Himself and so those who worship God at these services should recognize Gods hand and simply continue to worship Him even more and ….no one needs to defend the work of God.

Since Nicky brought up this question of historicity of Jesus, I though I should add something to it. Mathew 2:2, 7 and 10 says that Star of Bethlehem that lit for just one day led the wise men to the place of nativity (Jesus’ birth).
Talking about that star, in his book ‘A-Z Astrinomy’, Patrick Stephens, 1986, page 198 a prominent English Astronomer, Patrick Moore says: “It is not likely that the star could have been a nova or supernova as nothing of the sort was mentioned by contemporary astronomers. In any case a star of that sort would remain visible for many nights.” If that is so, there could not have been one night star spectacle on that day. Moore further says; “Unfortunately it has now been shown that no bright conjunctions were visible from the holy land at this time, and the idea is definitely untenable.” Somehow, except for Mathew, no other in gospel writer says anything about this star. Did or not the other Gospel writers see the star?
For Christians, Jesus is unique and is the God himself. Therefore, it should be natural for them to learn deeply about the pomp of Jesus birth. What is incredible is that Christians know scanty about Jesus pubescent. After narrating a great deal about his babyhood and one other when a teenager, The New Testament jumps directly to the three years of preaching of the matured Jesus up to his crucifixion. Hence, Christians know nothing at all about his momentous events from puberty up to a matured man.
In his book ‘why it is so in Catholicism’ Rev. Don Peter says; evangelists’ concern had been to spread Jesus’ messianic mission and not of his youth. As for him, just four lines in Luke 2:51-52 has effectively said it all. And, he expects all adherent to be satisfied with it. That is the typical Christian ecclesiastical attitude.
However, in his book, ‘The gap in the life of Jesus’ published in 1894, a Russian writer named, Alexander Notovic has proved with facts that Jesus lived and died in India long after being crucified. But, Clergy like Rev. Peter says, Max Muller had exposed Notovic as a swindler and therefore his finding are not true. But affable father, we know that Vatican had been managing lot more wily affairs than that.
In fact, throughout history, Catholic Church had played a vital role to cover-up younger Jesus’ true history. May be for this reason, scholars of many nationalities had gone through immense trouble to research about the missing years of Jesus. Prominent and foremost in this field, Professor Fida M. Hassnain, a Sufi (a sect of Muslim) in his book ‘A search for the Historical Jesus’, Gateway Books 1994 has been researching for over 23 years about Jesus in many lands. Evidence he found was contrary to the details in the New Testament.
In his thesis dated 1994, Professor Hassnain supports with ample proof that Jesus was bought up in Persia and India and spend just three years of preaching in the valley of Galilee. And, he says; Jesus survived the cross, ministered many on his way to Kashmir under cover. He also established that, Jesus and his mother Mary were buried in Kashmir amongst people of Jews faith and origins. We wonder what would reverend father Peter could says about Hussnain?

Michael has got the sequence wrong. It was only after the circular that Lalith sought an audience with the Archbishop for clarification. He was specifically told that it was nothing personally against him, and was only asked not to expose the Blessed Sacrament during his prayer meetings. I also know that a Bishop ( of Kandy?), is the patron of the Risen Lord prayer group and all accounts are audited.
However, Lalith should be happy – he is being attacked for preaching Jesus. Thats an amazing blessing. Michael Harding should remember that you dont get off lightly when you slander a servant of God. Though I resolved not to occupy my self again with this discussion I am replying to you as a courtesy.
I will answer your question on a Christian perspective.
Bad things don’t happen to good people. You see them as bad things because of the separation from God.
God does not test people. It is not in his nature.
Let’s see what it means.
Separation from God occurs when man starts to identify himself as an individual separate entity apart from the rest of creation: which is his expression.
This Individualisation apart from the rest is called “ego”. Ego identifies us as a permanent separate entity and craves for recognition and satisfaction. This is due to a fear that we have. This causes us to evaluate events of this nature and reflect it upon our ego and come to conclusions as good or bad.
Our egos are expressed in every thing we do. It is expressed in the way we dress, the car we drive the choice of our dwelling, the way we speak, our attitudes towards others etc…We give ourself prominence and recondition not understanding the true nature of our Life; which is union with God.
Due to this separation our minds reflect our own inner consciousness and not of Gods.
When something like this happen the emotions that we get are reflections of our own selves.
Remember the story in the gospel where a woman caught in adultery was brought before Jesus .We all see a sinner in her. Why? Because we have that sin in our mind.
Jesus never saw her that way, because his heart was with God. He knew the true nature of life. Sin was not in his heart so he didn’t see it in her.
He saw her for what she was, which is; a soul searching for happiness in this world which can only come from God. This is why he was able to forgive her.
Dear brother try to understand what this means. Try to understand that life’s joys can only come by understanding its true nature. Life is only complete when it s united with its true source; which is God.
When wrong things are done to you like what happened in the last few weeks, have compassion on the wrongdoer for his soul seeks the same thing as ours which is peace and happiness which can only come by giving ourselves completely to God.
Try to understand the true nature of it.
As our Lord said: Love them, pray for them and do good to them.
Remember when you are in union with God nothing else matters .Only God exists. Your peace and joy is complete.
When God is found we find rest, and the qualities we give out to the world will reflect it.
Your beautiful life as a humanbeing is Gods gift to you, and what you become in it your gift to him.

The generation he was speaking to did pass away, but the sun still shines, the stars still twinkle in the night sky, and there have been no Jesus coming down from the clouds.
