The ‘Risen Lord’ Strikes Back!
Early last week, Lalith Perera offered, through a close associate, to sit down with The Sunday Leader. We agreed to record the interview and print it verbatim as a Q&A. Perera then appears to have changed his mind. He has refused to speak or write to The Sunday Leader, and will only meet our reporter if he needs “spiritual counseling.”
An Attack On The Helper Of The Helpless
I can not help but respond to the article appearing in The Sunday Leader of 7th March 2010 titled “The Fraud Of The Risen Lord” by Michael Hardy.
To say the least, such an article is shocking! The writer has stood in judgment of the said Bro. Lalith Perera and publicly slandered him. At this point I would like to ask, what right has anyone to stand in judgment of the work of Faith done by a man of God?
I know many people who attend these Wednesday meetings of Bro. Lalith Perera at the St. Peter’s auditorium, who have only good reports and personal testimonies of healing, or miracles received. Why would anyone want to destroy the hope that he brings to the many thousands who attend these meetings? What alternative does the writer have to offer (for free) to these hurting and helpless people? If he could offer them solutions to life’s problems and a solid hope, at absolutely no cost, then I would applaud such a man.
Coming to the point of the many thousands who attend these meetings, could they all be mistaken??…. and why do they keep going back? Then there is the Bro. Rector and the staff of St. Peter’s College who endorse these meetings by allowing them in the College premises. These are learned men who are held in high esteem, well respected in society and even by political hierarchy. Does the writer imply that these honourable people who are allowing such things to take place under their very noses, are being deluded?
People pay huge medical bills for hospitalization and do not complain even if the patient dies in spite of all the best medical care our Nursing Homes have to offer. In fact, a patient can not even be admitted to a nursing home for medical attention, without paying a fair sum as a down payment. Why is it considered a fraud if a man who gives people more hope than medical science has to offer, receives donations? “Is not the labourer worthy of his hire”?
About ‘flying to many countries,’ is it not possible that the air ticket and accommodation for such a trip is provided for by the said countries? While I was in Australia last year, I met people who would give much to have Bro Lalith visit them. Not just one person but many in Australia are willing to pay for his ticket in full if they could only have him minister to them for a week.
About the cures of cancer or the ‘Words of Knowledge’ given by Bro. Lalith, why would one think it impossible that the Lord our God could use a man to do such things? I have heard a great man of God say that “God’s method is a man.” The Bible records that God even used a donkey to speak to a man, so why should He not use frail humanity?
Finally, I implore this great literary genius, to kindly refrain from destroying the faith and hope of innocent and hurting people who have found hope in God through the ministry of a mere man, or he may find himself up against God Himself.

In Defence Of Bro. Lalith
Apropos the article on the above subject in your esteemed journal of last Sunday (7th March 2010) by Michael Hardy, the so called Catholic (may his tribe decrease), his article is an insult to the tribe of scribes who always check on the veracity of what they write or publish. The write up is full of venom and it appears that he is in the pay of someone who is angry with this religious movement or Bro. Lalith who leads the group of Charismatic Catholics.
This Charismatic movement, popularly known as “Movement of Renewal” is a world wide movement and has been here in Sri Lanka for over three decades and has the blessings of the Church in Rome and the local church as the bishops would testify. In fact it was at its 25th anniversary in 1996 that the then Archbishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Nicholas Marcus Fernando, admitted in public that if not for the movement (by then 1996), broods of Catholics would have fallen victim to Fundamentalists. It has come a long way since then and only Hardy who has awoken from his ‘Rip van Winkle’ slumber recently would have got excited about it.
If Hardy is a good journalist, he should have checked on his findings before rushing to print to satisfy someone angry with the Renewal Movement or Bro. Lalith Perera, who may have bribed him to write his cock and bull story. If the church is tolerant with the Renewal Movement, nay bless its progress, how foolhardy is it for this Michael to chastise the good work of Bro. Lalith as if his patron saint the Archangel, has prompted him to pour out the diatribe on page 10 of The Sunday Leader last week? I am sure it is Michael’s opposite number Lucifer who has inspired Hardy and aided his venomous pen.
It is good for Hardy to know that the Scripture says that in the last days the Holy Spirit will pour forth His Spirit in such a way that even babes and old men would preach. The movement of Renewal is the work of the Holy Spirit, and to speak against it would be to speak against the Holy Spirit. I would warn Hardy, that the Holy Writ ( which he does not seem to know at all, though he calls himself a Catholic) says that to speak against the Holy Spirit is a sin that “WILL NOT BE FORGIVEN” – Hardy may have to at the end commit suicide like his pal Judas who betrayed his Lord for a few silver coins, because his sin like Judas’s is unpardonable.
There are hundreds and hundreds of men and women who have returned to the Lord from a life of sin, once meeting the Risen Lord via this movement. I would like in passing to mention that when I visited my son in LA, a couple of years back, a Lankan family from Dehiwala now domiciled in New Jersy, phoned me to request that I meet Bro. Lalith back in Sri Lanka, and thank him for the wonderful conversions that have taken place in the US after his sermons mainly of the Risen Lord. I was told that over 300 (US students mind you) undergrads go for daily mass after listening to Bro. Lalith’s talks.
I did meet Bro. Lalith back home at our Annual Pentecost Rally at St. Joseph’s last year and Brother Lalith’s humble reply was “let them thank the Risen Lord and not me, for it is He who has touched them.” So half baked journalist Hardy is well advised not to underestimate people by scratching merely the surface and worse arriving at wrong conclusions. Hardy reminds readers of those blind men who described the elephant in different ways having touched the animal only. Hardy will have to make his Easter confession today and beg pardon from the Risen Lord for insulting Him.
This good Catholic seems to doubt the Resurrection too. Of course from such a baptized pagan we cannot expect anything better than such an article. He should immediately apologise to Bro. Lalith against defamation of his character and I hope the Editor will carry an apology from him soon. There is so much that so many Charismatics will want to say in defense of Bro. Lalith, but for the moment suffice to say that any Catholic Bishop or priest who has heard Bro. Lalith preach would vouch to the fact that neither Bro. Lalith nor his preaching has the qualities that Hardy has only exaggerated for journalistic sensation. I am a journalist myself and I know how to sensationalise untruth to appear as truth.
Those who have met the Risen Lord via this movement and changed their lives and those who have been healed by the Risen Lord, of manifold diseases, (not duped by Lalith as Hardy claims ) will take up cudgels with Hardy for the false accusations against a man of God. The need to day is for more committed people like Bro. Lalith and not half baked sensationalists like Hardy whose story sounds like one from LaureL & Hardy.

‘We Need Courageous People Like Michael’
“Of course The Lord has a strange way of working. That is the reason for children die in every three minutes due to starvation in this world. That is the reason, during tsunami, the innocent devotees who were praying in the Holy churches were sucked into the ocean. That is the reason 6 Million Jews met thier gruesome deaths in gas chambers and consentration camps. That is the reason over thousand innocent civilians went under rubble during Haiti’s earthquake. Of course as you grandly said, the word of the Lord is like a fire which resulted in thousnands were burned alive during inquisition times. Oh come on Ash mun, do not insult human interlect.
The knowledge of the human race is rapidly surpassing the ever stagnating thousand years old outdated holy scriptures. As long as you people keep on gropng in the darkness the imposters like Brother Lalith will have a field day. Because you people always have a remarkable, suger laced excuses to explain the reason for the suffering in the world and subsequently there will be a lorry load of saviours like Lalith who jump into the occasion to save our supposedly “poor souls”!
There are many moderate Christians who are able to see beyond the established box. They have the guts expose the shady deals which take place under the cloak. In Australia over 140 priests were prosecuted for raping young lads inside the churches. Very recently Vatican had to admit the year long molesting of children by priests in God’s houses where they took refuge. As long as you people keep on hammering the old songs you will never win the hearts and minds of ordinary people. Do not use 3000 people gathering at St Peters collage to measure the strength of the faith. People always flock into places in thousand to experience a new vision. That is the human nature. In India, Swami Maha Rishi Mahesh had over million followers until he was caught red handed for money swindling.
We need people like Michael. That is the reason I admire Michael Hardy’s courage.”

‘At Last Someone Has Revealed Lalith Perera As A Crooked Charlatan’
Good for you, Hardy. At last someone has revealed what’s going on at the so called Risen Lord Community.
I strongly believe that you cannot fool all the people ALL the time. The day of reckoning has come. Like so many other cases: Lalith Kotalawala, Sarath Silva etc etc…. timely God shows us that justice will be meted in this world.
As for LP, he should NOT be surprised at what’s written about him. These things have been told of him by the Catholic community who does not stand for his emotional hype prayer sessions.
A circular by the Archbishop recently referred to this too, banning such behaviour in churches — which LP and his community were trying to sabotage.
Yes there were priests involved with LP but most of them have left the RLC – and I have heard very shocking reasons given.
Jesus Christ walked on this Earth – a simple man. He never boasted about his KNOWLEDGE (scientific or not). He actions and speech were never arrogant. This cannot be said of LP. We are all called to be the followers of Jesus not to be Jesus or someone even more.
As for his followers – we cannot expect anything more from them than for them to cry “persecution” . As all followers do who are brain washed. I have heard them talk about LP and it repulses me.
Dear followers i do hope you will soon open your eyes to the truth – to the true God — the Jesus of the cross.
Thank you Hardy – for your courage. God will reward you.

Michael Hardy Responds…
The more we learn about Lalith Perera (who is certainly not a “Father,” as his nickname Lalith Thatha implies), the more obvious his charlatanism becomes. Indeed, many in the Catholic Church of Sri Lanka — including prominent members of the Church hierarchy — have long considered Perera a renegade evangelist more interested in personal self-aggrandizement than in supporting the mission of the Church. According to an investigation by The Sunday Leader, the schism between Perera and Church authorities came to a head last fall with the installation of the new Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Ranjith. One of Archbishop Ranjith’s first actions upon assuming office was to summon Perera for a personal meeting, during which the Archbishop reminded Perera of his allegiance to the Church and gave specific instructions about what services the Community of the Risen Lord (CRL) could and could not perform.
The Archbishop communicated these instructions to every parish in Sri Lanka in his October 7, 2009 circular entitled “Concerning Various Movements and Services.” In this circular, which is clearly addressed to the CRL and similar “praise and worship” groups, the Archbishop anticipates many of the criticisms of the CRL contained in last week’s article. Reproduced below are several excerpts from the circular:
“The so-called ‘Praise and Worship’ elements are not allowed during the entire rite of the Mass. Inordinate and loud music, clapping, long interventions and gestures which disturb the sobriety of the celebration are not permitted. It is very important that we understand the religious cultural sensibility of the Sri Lankan people. Majority around us are Buddhists whose culture of worship is thoroughly sober; and Muslims and Hindus too do not create commotion in their worship. In addition, there is a strong opposition to the Fundamentalist Christian sects in this country, and we as Catholics, have been striving to explain that Catholics are different from these sects. However, some of these so-called praise and worship exercises seem to resemble more of the Fundamentalist religious exercises than those of the Roman Catholics.”
“In some of the para-liturgical services people nowadays tend to become extremely verbose and vocal. God speaks, we need to listen; and listening needs more silence and meditation than cacophonic exuberance.”
“Liturgical blessings are reserved only to liturgical ministers; i.e., bishops, priests and deacons. Anyone may pray over another. But it is earnestly recommended not to use gestures that lead to illusion, confusion or misinterpretation.”
“Parallel Sunday services indirectly nurture personality cults and therefore lead to cracks and divisions in the main body of the Lord in the parish. GIRM 2002 No. 95 says ‘Thus they (lay people) are to shun any appearance of individualism or division, keeping before their eyes that they have only one Father in Heaven and accordingly are all brothers and sisters to each other’.”
Given the exposure of Perera’s heresies by no less than the Archbishop of Colombo, we at The Sunday Leader wonder how St. Peter’s College — which claims to be an orthodox Catholic school — justifies providing Perera with a platform for his weekly faith healings. Is St. Peter’s College Rector Rev. Fr. Travis Gabriel a member of Perera’s personality cult? Does Fr. Gabriel endorse Perera’s controversial teachings? After repeated inquiries, The Sunday Leader discovered this week from Felicia Adihetta, a close associate of Perera, that the CRL pays St. Peter’s College an undisclosed amount of money to use their facilities on Wednesday evenings. Adihetta refused to say how much the CRL pays, but the sum must be substantial for St. Peter’s to sully its reputation by playing host to this disreputable organisation. The CRL claims that its donations are carefully tracked and responsibly disbursed. If so, why won’t it say how much it pays St. Peter’s?
Even more disturbing news reached us this week. The Sunday Leader learned that a woman in Dehiwala, the mother of an eight-year-old child suffering from birth defects, has been regularly attending the CRL’s prayer meetings, hoping for a miraculous cure for her son. Perera himself is said to have promised this poor woman that he could heal her child — as long as she kept attending the prayer services. This is but one example of the false hope Perera dangles in front of his suffering disciples to keep them in his charismatic thrall. Perera must thank God every night that he lives in Sri Lanka, where there are so many suffering people for him to rob and deceive. Perhaps the only thing crueler than what Perera’s traumatized followers have been through is the expectation of supernatural intervention that Perera promises them.
During last Wednesday’s faith healing, Perera responded to The Sunday Leader by citing Psalms 54:5 “He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them.” If exposing the fraud of a charlatan is evil, then we are happy to take the consequences. Which, however, is the greater evil — warning Sri Lanka about a personality cult, or actually leading that personality cult?
During the service, Perera went on to defend the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, citing the notoriously unreliable website Wikipedia.com. Perera even made the audience chant sentences from the Wikipedia article as if it were the Holy Scripture! Of course, if Perera were really interested in investigating the Shroud’s authenticity he would have done more research than a five-minute Google search. Placing his trust in Wikipedia does not say much for Perera’s power of discernment.
Needless to say, I stand by my reporting.

Kindly follow your own religious beliefs and leave others alone!! Each one to his own belief. You cant change the world. This is not the place for religious disharmony.
Excellent reasoning ‘freelanka’. After a war inspired by idiots who sought division in preference to harmony, we have more idiots who wish to provoke disharmony. while we fight with each other our neighbours are watching gleefully as they scavenge on the debris of our disharmony. Who cares about the Portuguese -live in the present and focus on the future Nikhil et. al., not in the past.
Ado Freelanka or something,
You have to get your head examined first of you can not withstand a progressive discussion. Or simply get lost !!The world always is changing due to the progressive ideas of the people no matter how aggressive they are. It is called progressive criticism. Modaya , even you are a by product of a chain reaction of the ever changing world.
This is a story started by MH against Mr. Lalith Perera. Now this is going beyond the original platform disgracing a Great Leader of a Relegion. You all can argue on MH and LP. But please leave the Christians and Christian’s faith and Catholic church alone. Some body is trying to condemn the Sihalese Christians. This has taken too much to attack different communities. The comments realy shows there is something more than the original argument here.I think some are trying to capitalize on this issue to destroy the harmoney of other Religions in Sri Lanka. Please leave the religions and if you want argue on the topic for that too I am not in favour.Thank you and Praise the Lord
The religious harmony was destroyed in this country on the day that Portuguese pirates were washed up to our shores with a Franciscan monks abroad their ship. For almost two centuries since Catholic Padres assisted the murderous Portuguese to raid and rob the wealth our nation. Not just that, they destroyed our serene culture that endured over two-millennium in this land. They destroyed our beautiful ‘Kelaniya Temple’ that was there for over thousand years. How many of our forefathers those Christian fanatics must have killed for sake of sending them to be with their God.
Christians had been bigots through out their history. The fourth US president and father of the Constitution, James Madison, said; “Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise.” Also he asked; “During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial, what have been its fruits? More or less in all places pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, superstition, bigotry and persecution in both.”
What are this bigotry and the persecutions that President James Madison had been talking about? These are in fact nothing less than atrocities took place during the infamous battles called Crusades and Torture sentencing called inquisitions. But the Catholic Encyclopedia describes ‘the Crusades’ as expeditions undertaken to deliver the Holy Places from Moslem control. What a lie. Catholic Church covers up all such murder verbosely. Just as you can make any sentence you like from the dictionary by choosing certain words, you can prove any point you want by juggling millions of concepts in the Bible. This is something that both Christians and Jews are adept at.
Historian Raymond of Agiles who joined Godfrey of Bouillon, to save the holy land describe the capture of Jerusalem by the Crusaders in 1099 in his own words as follows: “Some of our men cut off the heads of their enemies; others shot them with arrows, so that they fell from the towers; others tortured them longer by casting them into the flames. Piles of heads, hands and feet were to be seen in the streets of the city. It was necessary to pick one’s way over the bodies of men and horses. But these were small matters compared to what happened at the temple of Solomon, a place where religious services were ordinarily chanted. What happened there? If I tell the truth, it will exceed your powers of belief. So let it suffice to say this much at least, that in the temple and portico of Solomon, men rode in blood up to their knees and bridle reins.”
In spite of all this Christians think they are moral and wanted to teach us morality. I wonder whether they know the kind of skeletons that are is in their cupboards.
Leela , You are an intolerant nut. Types like you cause religious wars after the racial war that has just ended.
Christians have been persecuting others ever since they arrived on this island. Most of the SL Christians today are products of forced conversions and jobs-for-changing-religion, and now they run about screaming and waving the Christian banner when their ancestors were most likely murdered and butchered for refusing to convert to Christianity.
Ven Somarama comes to mind.
this Leela is not a ‘she’ its a He nut and in yellow robes too! He does not seem to have anything to do at the temple, and so seems to be promoting a religious war with his nutty comments. We dont need your good for nothing comments, just go back to the temple and start meditating…
I am no religious nut, bigot or racist. I only have showed the Christians and the apostates many verses that they do not read in their Bible, and highlighted the true character of their God, and reminded the them of their true history. How dare you accuse me as a religious not. I incite Buddhists to attack no church, mosque or kovil. On the contrary, I offered to arrange our ‘Bana Maduwa’ as a temporary pulpit for Christian Evangelists to read their Bible and for us to learn their God. But I say, do not convert by bribe and immoral practices.
You should not get worked up like Eelamists. Try and understand anxiety of the majority of people in this country. Be tolerant of the views of the others.
Blame the Chriteans of all ills in the world and SL.To refresh Leela. SL history King Kasyapa the good guy as the son of King Dhatusena Kasyapa murdered his father by walling him alive (pretty horific is it bad as cutting the throte may be more fun) and then usurping the throne which rightfully belonged to his brother Mogalana. Portuguese came in 1505.Blame it on the Old Testament. I can give more examples from SL but what’s the use. Once a SL Dr who visited China for two weeks told me Chines people has freedom than US counter parts to do what they like. He blames West for all ills of SL he is been living since 1970 in European countries. He left Sri Lanka with his quilification as a Dr paid for by the SL govement funny ha the blame game.
What Leela has said is 100% true. Christians have been persecuting others ever since they arrived on the island. Even now they are trying to force their religion onto others and engaging in aggressive and unethical proselytism.
Leela/ Nikhil,
We are also aware of Buddhists who wont kill ants, but certainly kill human beings. There are also some who dont kill animals, but certainly eat their flesh (chicken, meat, pork etc..)
Leela …I think its time you question your morals & most importantly your belief cos after reading your comments I am shame to call my self a non christian . Its a shame to know that such people like you exsist in the non christian conmmunity
leela,
Did you read the news of the Budhist Monk in Nainatheevu, doing business and last week attacked a Tamil youth
for hindering his business?
Practically all precepts of the Roman Catholic religion contradict the Bible repeatedly. It is the largest cult in the world and most preachers will not openly say so because it is so large. For Catholics who read this, please remember this: the person that tells you the truth is the one that cares.
For a glimpse of the atrocities committed by the Roman Catholic religion, do a net search on the Inquisition or the Crusades. During the Inquisition, the Catholic religion killed millions. Why? Primarily to suppress any and all opposition to the pope. Side “benefits” included taking the material wealth of its victims and showing the pope’s power. The Catholic Inquisitors tortured, crippled, burned, and imprisioned millions of people. Whatever happened to love your enemies? (Matthew 5:44)
Before we get to specific problems with Catholic doctrine, let’s review how this bloodthirsty organization treated a man who simply wanted to get the Bible into the hands of the common people. In the late 1300s John Wycilf translated the scriptures from the Latin Vulgate. Some 40 odd years after his death, the Catholic religion dug up his bones and burned them calling him an arch-heretick. In the 1500′s William Tyndale sought to translate the Bible into the language of the common people, English. He could not gain approval from the Catholic religon so he worked as an outlaw on the run in Europe, translating the Bible. He was eventually captured, condemned and executed in 1536. It is because of people like these men, Tyndale and Wycliffe, that we have the scriptures today. If the Catholic religion had its way, we’d still be in ignorance about the Bible and enslaved to the pope. Time fails me here to tell of other marytrs like John Hus, John Rogers, etc. who were killed by popish persons.
CATHOLIC TRADITION – Call priests father, e.g., Father McKinley.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS -
Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
————————–
CATHOLIC TRADITION – Venerating/worshipping images. Pope bows to statues of Mary, people worship the eucharist and have statues/candles in their homes and churches.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS – It is idolatry to venerate images. We are not even supposed to make them.
Exodus
20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God..
Even the devil quotes the scriptures.
Get to the true knowledge of the bible if you don’t know it or understand it. To know it is to know it’s origin, the languages at the specific time it was written. It is not to be taken literally, ask any Scriptural Scholar.
Mr Hardey
Do not try to be Satan please mind your business .You are trying to show the world that you are really stupid by trying to tell all rubish things which no sensible person will believe. Please go and do a good confession to drive out the satan that is living in you.
Is it any wonder that the Sunday Leader gets sued and Frederica and whoever else gets death threats.
They don’t seem to care who they bash as long as they get a sensational story.
Sometimes I wish we as Christians Do Not Turn the other cheek.
Show us how many such humble verses are there in the Bible. I can sow you very many wicked and vulgar verses.
the vulgarity is not in the verses, it is in your mind because you dont know what they mean…….How do you see the Sigiri frescoes ah? To you it should be vulgar since you are not Leela, but a Leelaratne in robes right?
Roy, what do you mean by asking MH not to be Satan?……Cant you see by his writing that he is Lucifer in the guise of a journalist trying his level best to stop Bro. Lalith from getting the people closer to God. And how dare he use the good name of the ‘Archangel’ to do his rounds!! Just wait and see whats going to happen to him and all those who seem to think he has done a great job. Before long there will be a great miracle and the Lucifer himself will Praise the Lord. That day isnt very far from now
The greatest service Hardy has done to Christians is to give us a platform to show them and the would be apostate the contradictions, the immorality, the illogicality and the wickedness of the Bibles and of cause the fallacy of their God. Needless to mention their evil history.
Try and find another past time. You are a nut case.
Hey Leela, how come a guy in saffron robes taking on a woman’s name? We know what frustrated nerds like you do in the backyard of temples. I guess everyone knows, but turn a blind eye in respect of the robe.
By the way, let me tell you something. QUOTING EXCERPTS from the Holy Bible will not get you anywhere. Whilst offering the Bible in your Bana Maduwa on a temporary pulpit, you must learn to interpret it as well. Why not have yourself enrolled in a seminary and learn theology too.
You are an insult to Buddhism and a disgrace to the robes you adorn and to what Lord Buddha preached. He himself foretold the arrival of Christ Jesus.
To Saro,
I feel sorry for your day dreaming. Please come down from the clouds and stop hullucinating.
Thank you, but dont feel sorry for me, but feel sorry for yourself and others like you who seem to have gone overboard with this Hardy guy.
Lalith Perera’s Risen Lord community releases a video on Jesus in Sri Lanka:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnW2N4hHWUc
Apparently Jesus visited Colombo the other day…..
Mr.Hardy, can we have your expert opinion on Kattadiyas and Devil dancing in Sri Lanka which is very common
“It was not being raped by a priest at the age of 14 that shattered my faith; it was the horrifying realisation that the Catholic Church had wilfully, knowingly abandoned me to it, the knowledge that they had ordained the priest who abused me despite knowing he was a paedophile and set him free to abuse with near impunity, ignoring all complaints.”
– Colm O’Gorman
http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/i-was-a-victim-of-abuse-this-is-what-the-pope-must-do-to-stop-it-1924327.html
In several prisons in our land there are buddhist monks in prison – for child abuse. But child abuse is deplorable whether done by Christian or Buddhist and it is also not an indictment of whatever religion of the offender. If you want a quote, here’s one:
A Tribune review of sexual abuse cases involving several Theravada Buddhist temples found minimal accountability and lax oversight of monks accused of preying on vulnerable targets. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-07-24/news/ct-met-monk-sex-cases-20110724_1_thai-monks-buddhist-monks-paul-numrich
That does not mean that Buddhists generally condone abuse, does it?
Try not to allow your own very un-Buddhist/Christian prejudice come in the way of better judgement.
I think it is good if he does it and compare the two. I could show him the route to a popular place that they say incredible things of ones past if he wish.
M. Hardy,
Lord forgive them they do not know what they are doing by writing againts bro,Lalith. I also pray as christ said I never wish sinner to die. Please ask pardon from God and bro, Lalith.Do a better confession.
I made a request to the Sunday Leader to have this article published today (21.3. 2010) in their Spotlight column, for the benefit of all its readers. Since my request has been ignored I have decided to post it on the Web for those who have commented on the past two articles by Michael Hardy.
The Fraud of the Risen Lord
Usually on a Sunday afternoon I browse through the Sri Lanka Newspapers on the web and as I clicked on the column Spotlight in the Sunday Leader of 7th March I read the article “The Fraud of the Risen Lord” by Michael Hardy with a sense of uneasiness and suspicion. I realized that Michael’s main purpose in writing this unscrupulous article was to ‘stir the pot’ and in doing so create an environment to promote a division in the Catholic Church. His comments as a spectator, having little or no knowledge of the Charismatic Movement are based just on his one visit to St Peter’s auditorium at the expense of those thousands of devotees who have religiously attended these services for many many years and that too with the Blessings of the Catholic Church as admitted by him –“Even Catholic priests apparently come by the hundreds to the Community’s retreats to be instructed by Brother Lalith”.
His criticisms of Brother Lalith Perera and the manner in which he has attacked the performances of this service is much to be desired. He has put him on trial without any evidence or facts and passed judgement without a trial. What he fails to understand and accept is that these devotees from all walks of life have attended these services with a feeling of expectation driven by the faith within them. I personally do not know Brother Lalith, but I have read much about him in Australia where he is held in high esteem. In saying so it does not mean that he is perfect and being human at times he may have made mistakes- for we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. In such situations as Christians we should not condemn but rather uphold each other in prayer. As much as I do, no Christian should treat him as a God but rather as His messenger fulfilling God’s mission on earth—“Go ye therefore and teach all nations…all things whatsoever I have commanded you – Matthew 28: 19-20.
Faith is a personal experience. It is as stated in the Bible –“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”- Hebrews 11:1. We can’t see the wind, or touch the wind, or taste the wind, we can only hear it, and feel it. Yet no one doubts that the wind exists. In many ways faith is like the wind.
Emphasising the effectiveness of faith I can only speak for myself. Born an Anglican I have found no difficulty in worshiping in any church that is moved by the Holy Spirit and I am grateful to God that I have many believers from many denominations. Whilst attending two healing services, many years apart I have been miraculously healed on these two occasions, the fact of which is well known to my doctors, family and close friends. I am not ashamed to proclaim it from the hilltops and it does not worry me if one does not believe it. Surely, there are many at the ‘Community of the Risen Lord’ services that have been physically healed but more importantly received a spiritual healing that have made them better persons and we should be glad for it. We have no right to question their submission to their faith.
Michael Hardy Responds—14.3.10.
Obviously, reading the many comments from readers in support of Brother Lalith,- Michael have sort it fit to defend himself with further derogatory statements and concludes by saying “ I stand by my reporting” Unfortunately, he has now wittingly opened a can of worms.
I do not intend to delve on his repeated accusations which push him deeper into the miry clay. What I am concerned is about the statements he has made about the Church hierarchy and the instructions given by the new Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Ranjith.
With due respect to the Archbishop of Colombo I fail to understand some of the excerpts from his circular which needs clarification and an explanation to his flock.
The question is- Do we confine to the doctrine of Christianity or Churchanity? Firstly, what do we mean by Churchanity? May I suggest to the readers that ‘It is a means whereby a great portion of the world is being deceived –namely, a religious system that in the outward appears Christian, but is devoid of Christ’s truth, presence and power. This religious system confines Christ to an enclosed building within four walls. It confines Him to a one hour a week “service”. It confines Him to church formalities and liturgies. It confines Him to a “MEISM” concept of self-improvement and self-happiness’. Churchanity primarily promotes the church instead of Christ of the church. Its focus is on being a member of the church instead of being a member of Christ. It takes the eye of the would-be worshiper away from the true goal and puts it on a denominational religious organization. Many people go to church because they have a desire to go to heaven or want to feel good about themselves. But there is a distinct difference between Christianity and Churchanity.
Christianity is adhering to the teachings of Jesus the Christ. We must believe in the claim He makes of Himself—that He is the way, the truth and the life (Jn 14:6). Another key word in coming to Jesus is “transformation” (Rom12:2). We are transformed when we walk through the door (Jesus) from the deceitfulness of this old world into a new world wherein righteousness and truth dwelleth. We are spiritually born again.
History proves that most customs and dogmas where introduced into the Catholic Church through Constantine who, in 325AD, began the process of converting the official pagan religion of the Roman Empire to Christianity. He modeled Christianity on many customs that were familiar and acceptable to the Jews and Pagans at that time, when religion and belief were intertwined with superstition. This is how Churchanity grew.
Again the Catholic Church made radical changes when it became involved in the ecumenical movement since the Second Vatican Council (1961-1965). Similarly, when the Catholic Church felt the need for change due to its dwindling numbers and popularity of the new charismatic movement, it did not hesitate to introduce and embraced their form of worship.
What needs to be established is whether the Catholic Church sincerely believes in the practices of the charismatic movement or has their form of worship being introduced into the church to attract the younger generation in order to maintain its membership.
Touching on the archbishops remarks-“The called ‘Praise and Worship’—————-Majority around us are Buddhists whose culture of worship is thoroughly sober: and Muslims and Hindus too do not create commotion in their worship. In addition, there is a strong opposition to the Fundamentalist Christian sects in this country, and we as Catholics, have been striving to explain that Catholics are different from these sects.” He further goes on to say-“In some of the para-liturgical services people nowadays tend to become extremely verbose and vocal. God speaks, we need to listen: and listening needs more silence and meditation than cacophonic exuberance” –Firstly, he seems to be concerned of what others think rather than stand steadfast in promoting Christianity. He has also let down other Christians at the expense of scoring points for his church—Is this not Churchanity? He has attempted to create divisions among other Christian denominations contrary to the practice of ecumenism and perhaps in his own church. He has deceived the Catholic churches who practices and encourages this form of worship which has had the blessings of the church for some years. His comments sound hypocritical.
What is wrong in giving Praise & Glory to God? Has he forgotten the Psalms are full of it? In Psalms 95:1 it says:- “ O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation”.
Certainly, there is a time to talk to God as he has reminded us ‘to be still and know that I am God’. He also requires of us to give Him all the Honour, Glory and Praise.

Both Lalilth’s Family and Our Family have been Good Friends from Badulla/Passara since our Great Grand Parents(Even though we belong to different faith).Lalith hails from a very respectable Catholic Family with Stringent Religious dicipline…If Michael had an issue he should have confronted Lalith in person hence it is always hard for a person to claim innocence when he his accuser gone public with all sought of allegation…I do not condone or condemn any of these rituals as I am strong beleiver in ONE MIGHTY GOD-Say: He is ONE & ONLY GOD, the One and Only Mighty ONE, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him.
And in yourselves too: can you not see?”
Man is indeed the greatest wonder, or miracle on earth, although he is often oblivious to his own real status and to the secret wonders in his own constitution. He is a great wonder in his outer and inner self; his body and soul. When man begins to think about himself, he always finds some great wonder to contemplate.
Every human being is a world of its own; a mirror reflecting the whole universe in a special and unique image that is not repeated at any moment in history. There is no parallel for any one person in the entire human race, whether in shape, features, mind, faculties, spirit, feelings or even in the way the universe is reflected in that person’s mind. In this divine museum that includes millions of millions of individuals, each one is a unique sample that can never be repeated in the same way as fingerprints are unrepeated throughout human history.
Furthermore, we gain much pleasure from looking carefully at people’s faces, features, movements and habits, provided that such a look is cast through the eyes of one who acknowledges his position as a servant of God, taking a round in an exhibition of the greatest Creator’s work. How about one who spends a lifetime in such pleasant exercise? With a pointer like this, man anew, giving him a new faculty of perception, a new pleasant life and an enjoyment that is unparalleled by anything on earth.
It is this level of reflection and contemplation . Faith is what gives our hearts such a treasure and opens for us this superior enjoyment while we are still on earth
Your comments are appreciated. The spiritual brotherhood displayed is necessary during these hard times. The core of all religions is “LOVE”. Like fools rushing, where angels fear to tread, one must not swallow lock, stock and barrel, what is being said or written by one about another. “Retribution is Mine” said the Lord. Then let the Lord judge man. The likes of Hardy and those others with bitter and malicious comments on Brother Lalith ought to turn around and look at themselves first before pointing fingers at others.
The Lord also said, “If none of you has sinned, let him be the first to cast a stone”. We have not a God given right to form opinion and conclusions on others. Once we confront the sins in ourselves, there is no room for arrogance against others, there is no room to be judgmental of others.
Thank you Abdullah, my wife and I together with the Catholic community here in the Maldives, Salute you!
Thank you. Your words are inspiring. Praise the Lord.
Is Eran Wickramanayake one of his followers?
Oops! after reading all these mails Shivendrika dias had asked about Eran. Yes Eran was in school with me and I had great respect for the man, He started preaching after his father Colton W, and went on to become a Banker “a Tax collector”, whom the Holy bible speaks so low, but God forgives them too. Then Eran goes to politics, A national list MP..
Let’s not pass judgement on any one. Thus is my openion on Evangelical personalities. Don’t get carried away brothers & sisters You want to pray just go to a room close the door and put your forehead on the ground and pray, with out making a huge loud noise about it. God Bless ya all. – JAYA
This seems to reek of jealousy and the work of some of the fundametalists as quite a few of the catholics who left the church are now returning to the catholic church and the sacraments thanks to the 4 step retreat. I would not be surprised if Mr Hardy is also a drop out of the catholic church ” althoug he claims to be a good catholic”. and just to create confusion ” which the work of Satan” he writes such defamatory articles. I think we should be thankful for the “desert” that we are being led into because the blessing come from situations such as these.
To me more persecution is to come before the purification. This is just the situation for everyone to just get on their knees and surrender everything that has happened and evrthing that is yet to happen (3rd step). Just SURRENDER in humilty as GOD is in Control. Just stay focussed on the LORD
Time to overlook what all of your have said
It is with utter disgust that a person has to witness such felony and hypocrisy. A simple evidence as to the impact of the risen lord movement, is the post of the so called devote followers of lalith. If he is the person who he claims he is, and changes people for the better as said, then why all this blasphemy ?. All the counter attacks to Michael hardy’s article, are simply put in the lowest possible manner, and this done by the all pious people who follow this so called holy movement. At this moment I’m quite certain most who are arguing upon this topic are Catholics, but do they look united do they look as brothers working for one cause, well certainly the answer is very sad know, instead the Christian brotherhood in sri lanka seems to be taking a break, and falling apart into those to and fro this movement. A true leader always speaks up when accusations are made against him but instead in this occasion we see a more cowardly approach of his subjects doing the frontline counterattacks.
A very interesting part of this entire jumble, is the participation of the youth in large numbers yes, certainly it’s a good thing because it’s never easy getting religion into our present teenagers. But the problem is, what are they participating in ? Cause as i see, it turns out to be more of a annual social gathering. This topic is my strongest cause i too am a teenager asking the big question of what is this that’s happening.
A question i would like to ask many of you who follow this movement is, have you stoped going for your daily mass in hope of attending laliths services, cause if you have i would like to send a simple reminder that, regardless of anything the holy Eucharist is yet the most treasured catholic practice and alleged to follow.
Thanks.
Mathews
I would like to invite you to go and listen to what Lalith has to say. No, we have not given up going to Sunday Mass. We attend Praise and Worship Sessions and go to retreats etc in addition to that.
It would also be good if you listen to his preaching and his reasoning as to why he did and will not answer to his accussers.
Look at the changes in the lives of the Youth who attend his prayer meetings. Your whole life would change too.
Praise The Lord
The letter below was written in response to the first article that was published in the Sunday Leader. However the paper failed to publish this for reasons best known to them.
The fraud of the Risen Lord – the other side
I read with concern and sadness the article given great publicity written
by one, Michael Hardy in the Sunday Leader of 7th March 2010. My
concern was solely due to the fact that this entire article was a mixture of
fabrication, far from the truth and on the face of it spiteful. It also
saddened me that undue publicity had been given to an article of this
nature without verifying the truth or authenticity of what has been
stated therein.
At the very outset I wish to emphasize that I myself have been a regular
participant at this Wednesday evening prayer service of the Community
of the Risen Lord for the last two decades. This was long prior to its even
being held at St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya. The only occasions on
which I have failed to attend these meetings was either when I was out of
the Island or when I was sick or when my professional work took me out
of Colombo. Hence unlike Mr. Michael Hardy who on the face of the
article appears to have attended just one meeting, my association with
the Community of the Risen Lord goes back for many years.
The writer in question refers to the Community of the Risen Lord as a
“supposedly Catholic organization”. It may be of interest for him to note
that the Catholic Charismatic Renewal is an accepted part of the Roman
Catholic Church. Its head office is in Rome and is known as the
International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Office (ICCRO). This
organization coordinates Catholic Charismatic Renewal Organizations
worldwide. The Community of the Risen Lord is a part of the Catholic
Charismatic Renewal in the Roman Catholic Church. Hence the
“supposedly Catholic organization” as referred to in the article is wholly
without merit, false and incorrect. Moreover The Community of the Risen
Lord in Sri Lanka is overseen by the Bishops of the Roman Catholic
Church and operates in most dioceses in Sri Lanka.
The writer in question further states that “although the community is
nominally Catholic, people like me who grew up in the Catholic Church will
recognize very little of Catholicism in these Wednesday evening services”.
The question of the community being “nominally Catholic” is laid bear as
set out above by the fact that the Community of the Risen Lord forms an
integral part of the Catholic Charismatic Movement of the Roman
Catholic Church in Sri Lanka. In this context, I am amused that the
writer who categorically sets out that he grew up in the Catholic Church
still asserts that “recent research shows that the Shroud was a hoax
manufactured a thousand years after Jesus died.” I may not be as holy a
Catholic as the writer but yet I have never questioned the teachings of
the Roman Catholic Church which to my mind comes directly from the
Successors of St. Peter himself. The authenticity of the Shroud is still
being verified but the Church has set out categorically that the Shroud is
an object of veneration. In fact when the Shroud of Turin is exposed for
public veneration this year, His Holiness the Pope himself will be one of
those visitors at the said exposition.
The evening prayer service at St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya consists
of three parts.
1. Praise
2. The Message
3. Worship
The first part of it consists in half an hour of Praise. Thereafter Brother
Lalith Perera gives his Message for the week and the concluding part of
the service is the Worship. It is during the sessions on Praise and
Worship that the entire congregation joins in ‘singing in the spirit’. The
Community of the Risen Lord propagates the use of the Gifts of the Holy
Spirit in prayer and worship as set out in 1 Corinthians 12;4-12 “There
are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of
service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the
same God works all of them in all men. Now to each one the manifestation
of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the
Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by
means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another
gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another
prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in
different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of
tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives
them to each one, just as he determines.” For just as the sun emits heat
and light so does the Holy Spirit radiate an atmosphere of joy. For those
who believe, the inner life of God is not static. It is a dynamic force,
always active within us. Joy is simply the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Hence the whole meeting with the active participation of the Holy Spirit
himself is one of joy.
The writer appears to be under a delusion that these meetings are
healing services. On the contrary this is a prayer service. However quite
naturally, as this is a service of praise and thanksgiving to God, the Holy
Spirit does work numerous miracles at these meetings. “By their fruits
you will know them” (Mt. 7;20), the Holy Spirit lives at the centre of the
Church and therefore it is clear without more that the miracles and
healings performed at these prayer meetings are by the Holy Spirit and
the Holy Spirit alone. It is not Brother Lalith Perera or his associates who
heal the sick and perform miracles at these meetings; rather it is the
work of the Holy Spirit. Hence there is no need for Brother Perera to
“provide concrete proof of his powers”.
Moreover at no time has Brother Lalith Perera ever presented himself as
“the messenger of God on earth”. This is only a figment of the imagination
of the writer.
The writer also refers to the fact that Brother Lalith Perera said
“remarkably little of substance and the verses were taken completely out
of context and twisted.” This is wholly incorrect and false. The cassettes
of the day’s message are available on the next week and a reading of
same by itself would be clear proof that the writer’s assertion is wholly
incorrect.
The writer further adverts to the fact that there is no ‘Lord’s Prayer’ and
no ‘Communion’ at these services. As clearly set out above this is a
prayer service and not a Eucharistic celebration. Hence the need for the
Lord’s Prayer or Communion does not arise. In this context it may be of
interest to the writer to know that prayer meetings outside the normal
liturgy of the Church are an accepted tradition in Roman Catholic
Church coming down the years. For example the Rosary and The Way of
the Cross. In any event, the liturgical life of the Church is centered on
the Blessed Sacrament which is exposed for veneration on the last
Wednesday of every month at these prayer meetings.
The writer further refers to the fact that Brother Lalith Perera gave a
“sales pitch for the community’s annual trip to Israel and Italy”. It may be
of interest for the writer to note that this annual pilgrimage has no
financial benefit for the Community of the Risen Lord. The only
beneficiary from such trip is an independent travel agent who has no
connection whatsoever to the community. However, I might add speaking
personally for myself, that I have been on two of these pilgrimages to the
Holy Land with Brother Lalith Perera together with my mother. The joy
and the peace we experienced at these two pilgrimages can never ever be
measured in human terms. My mother still has nostalgic memories of
these two tours.
In conclusion, might I add that this weekly prayer service of Brother
Lalith Perera has benefited and brought immense consolation for
thousands of ordinary people including my unworthy self. The reference
to this prayer meeting as “a magic show” is an insult and an affront to
those thousands of people who have genuinely come for these meetings
to experience the joy and the peace of the Holy Spirit. Moreover the many
derogatory references to Brother Lalith Perera without an iota of evidence
is wholly unwarranted and aimed at tarnishing the good name of Brother
Lalith Perera. In this context, whilst we are now in the middle of the Holy
season of Lent I can only sum up by quoting Lord Jesus Christ by saying
“Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing”.

Praise The Lord.
This has nothing todo with the above subject but just to Enlighten My Brothers and Sister about the Word ALLAH and few words in Arabic to give you all a better understanding about ARABIC/ISLAM
ALLAH: Allah is the ARABIC name of the One God, creator and sustainer of the universe, who does not have a partner or associate, and He did not beget nor was He begotten. The word Allah is used by the Arab Christians and Jews for The God (Eloh-im in Hebrew; ‘Allaha’ in Aramaic, the mother tongue of Jesus, pbuh). The word Allah does not have a plural or gender.
INSHALLAH means God Willing
MASHALLAH means Praise to God
ALHAMDULILLAH means Thanks God
ASSALAAMU ALLAIKUM means Peace and Blessings God be with you
For those who might not know that ISLAM or any one professing the ISLAMIC Faith beleives that Jesus Christ(or as we call Eissa-PBUH) will RISE AGAIN/Or will be Back
PRAISE THE LORD !!! MAY ALL EVIL TONGUES ROT BEFORE THEIR BREATH LEAVES THEIR BODY! ABBA FATHER , FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE “SAYING”
Mario; I do not don yellow robes, nor do I want to be a theologian. I read about the desert God of Abraham, his messengers or prophets (as Muslims call them) and the Bibles and the Koran where the said God’s revelation are said to have been written because it fascinates me tremendously.
I do not believe Abraham’s God or any God for that matter had created anything let alone the Universe or what we see around us. But that doesn’t mean I desire to stop anyone believe in that God or any God, so long as that God or its adherents do not hurt or trouble others. What we Buddhists are against is proselytize by BRIBE (broad sense).
Whether we like it or not, history is history; we have to accept the truth about our past or what we have done in the past no matter it had been good or bad. I see both Christians and Muslims have a great difficulty in accepting their ancestors past acts. Perhaps it is an inherent problem of the followers of Abraham’s God.
Leela,
I see your comments also on the ethnic issue, where you do not tolerate
any views on equal treatment of the Tamils.
Surely you are a racist and an religious extremist.
All these priests are ‘kolu karayas’
Dear Editor -
I also noticed that you are using pictures from the Risen Lord Community’s web site. Shouldn’t you honor copywrite rules and credit picture sources?
Or am I expecting too much?
Dear Jesus,
Please forgive those people who has tried to insult you. Show your love to those people. Always lead them to their success.. Thanks U Jesus… Love U Jesus…
Fascinating article. Many thanks for posting
The main aim of a religious teaching is to reach for the ultimate. Buddha nad C
do you know that this can make you wanna to pray?
The big religious war is coming when the Jews will fight the moslims to the last Christian.
Everybody else grab a ringside seat and get the pop corn ready…
go drown yourself in a cup of water! and I’m gonna watch ya burn in hell sitting by the ring side with my big bag of ‘hotshot’ pop corn. Oooh I can’t wait! BTW please take Leela along with you ok, i.e, to drown your selves in cups of muddy, germy, shitty water.
cheers
Catholic hierarchy in Sri Lankais fully threatened by Brother Laliths spiritual work. I live in USA and I see That the Catholic church is desperately trying to retain their congregation. I still go for Sunday Mass only because to receive the Holy Eucharist not for their boring preaching. Its always a case of desperately trying to raise money.. Sri Lankan Bishops seem to be threatened by this movement. They seem to getting people like Hardy to write letters of this nature.
Shame on them.I have been a good food friend of a Catholic priest. I have heard and learned enough of them.Lot of people don’t know this.
Have a close look and look outside the box at whats happening here….
This has nothing to do with Bro. Lalith. This is something bigger!!! This is someone trying to start a war amongst all religious sects. They started rousing the other religious communities and they are just trying to add more religious communities into this war. Dont get caught in satans trap. Just pray for those “who do not know what they are doing” …. God save their souls.
Bro Lalith is playing with other peoples lifes. Please Bro. Lalith stop this. I have had friends who ended up in getting mental health care after attending this programme. He say’s healing is done. But no healing. He says he can cure AIDS. This is all wrong. I hope our President will stop this fraud as it has affected many people in the country.
To all of you who have commented on this inflammotary issue, I have this to say…
I too, at first read, was thoroughly vexed that a person who considered himself a journalist, could trade his pride in ethical journalism and stoop to writing such defamatory articles about someone whom he obviously knows nothing about. Very obviously, the spiritual element has been “removed” from the equation and, it is only his ‘personal’ estimation that has taken precedence in venting his “point of view”. It is a calculated action that has proved very successful and perhaps boosted the ego no end. What satisfaction has it brought him or anyone else in doing so?
Instead of bashing each other to the four winds, why do we not, AS CHILDREN OF THE LIVING GOD, seek HIM and HIS wisdom, to help us carry out HIS WILL?? This is not the first time that such accusatory things are said about Catholics/Christians and it probably will not be the last. Instead of trying to counter these accusations under our own fallible wisdom and meagre strength of will, imagine what can be achieved by letting GOD take control of our actions and words!!!
As Jesus Himself said at the last, let us all, in true faith and trust in God’s Divine purpose for each of our lives, say, “FATHER, forgive them for they know not what they do”.
In forgiving, God arms us with the weapon we need to bring His peace and LOVE into the lives of others. This confrontation is a medium that each of us can use to broadcast to the world, that God’s love moves mountains and softens the hardest heart – if we will only BELIEVE and trust Him in all things.
May the love and peace of our amazing, loving RISEN LORD, be with you all during this Lenten season and may He be with you on that beautiful Easter day.
All praise and glory to YOU, Almighty Father, for granting me the grace to glorify Your name.
In the midst of all the vitriolic language used on this issue of Mr. Laiith Prera’s meetings held over a period of years, there is gross ignorance an misunderstanding.due to the extentent of “Biblical Illertracy” in Sri Lanka. Here are some guidelines that will prevent insults and misunderstanding.
* Christianity is not another religion in the religious pluralism. Christianity is a relationship with God the Father made possible only through the saving work of Jesus Christ His Son.
* In the passage of Scripture found in (John 6:60-71) the Lord speaks about “Words Of Life” and many are offended by what He says. However, in (vs.65) He makes a non-negotiable statement “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father”. One cannot be saved or become a Christian unless called by a Sovereign Act of the Sovereign Father. One has to be “born from above” (John 3.). If you are born in a garage do you become a car? Certainly not.
* A genuine Christian is a disciplined disciple of Jesus Christ and is called to live exactly like He lived. Being born in a “Christian family” going to whatever Church -”Does not make you and me a “child of God” or Christian. We remain the same depraved, rotten, Hell destined sinners, untill the Grace and Mercy of God through the “working of the Spirit” draws us into His Kingdom. If one was to read Paul’s letter to the Romans (chapter one) this becomes evident. “God gave them up.” “Beliefs determin behavior and behaviour has consequences”.
*The Bible is not a Jewish book, or a Christian book, it is God’s revelation of who He is given to men and women. It cannot be compared with any other writing and is not a “religious work” and stands apart from all literature, since it is Divinely inspired and does not need to be defended. He will defend His Truth.
* Jesus Christ is not a religious Guru, a good man, a prophent etc; He is the Son of God -in -the flesh, and is whome He claims to be or he is the world’s greatest fraud.
* Peter is not the first Pope, it was Gregory the Great (540-604) and the Head of His Church is Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself destroyed all heirachical oders setting the supreem example of being a “servant” (John 13).
*Roman Catholism is a denomination and not the Church. It has nothing in common with the simplicity of the New Testament Church. It is like all other denominations – Methodist, Anglican etc;. There is also no celebate priesthood and in the Old Testament serviice, priests had to be married, since God ordained marriage before the Church was on the scene. World wide, the increasing sexual abuse is way past epidemic proportions and given the internet pornography is wide spread amongst the cleargy in all denominations.
*The final authority for all matters of faith is not the Church or Church tradition but the Scripture.
* Mary does not have a “sinless strain” she needed salvation herself as sung in the Magnificat. “The Scripture is clear – “All have sinned (including Mary) and come short of the glory of God. In 431 AD, the Council of Ephesus condems Nestorianism and Pelagianism (which claims that man can attain salvation by works). The council defines Mary, Jesus’ mother as “Theotokos”, bearer of God, to show that Jesus is one person with two natures-”fully human and fully divine”. Which is the Biblical record and is non-negotiable.
* The Shroud of Turin is 100% authentic and many of you folks are not privy to the most recent Scientific findings by experts in the field of forensic science who are not Christians. It does not add or diminish Biblical Faith in any way.
* Speaking in tongues, (Acts 2), is a distinct dialect of which 17 were spoken on the Day of Pentecost. It is not a mumbling or gibberish and there is a “glossalaia language of ecstatic utterence of prayer to aid the true believer who is walking in obedience with the Spirit.
* What passes off as this pseudo utterence of “word of this or that” is a fake and a mantra type delusion. All the gifts operate within the local Church and is ment to enhance the “body of Christ”. (Ephesians chap.4). Jesus never called crowds or ministered to crowds, He taught his disciples who were his main focus. (Matthew 5:1-3 and read the text carefully.
* What Mr. Lalith Peris is practicing has no Biblical Basis and will collaspe sooner or later leaving lots of broken and confused people – remember Kudagama and the thorn that turned out to be from a Bougaanvilla Tree!!. Our Lord never trusted crowds as disciples are never made from crowds.
*Last words – Just pick up the Bible pray that the Spirit will illuminate you, come in repentance and humility as the Latin says -”Tolle Legge, Tolle Legge”, “pick up and read, pick up and read.”
Reading all the comments submitted by the readers I only see venom and hatred in most comments about any religion which is not theirs. I think religion and politics are two subjects that should not be debated in public if possible because each person has his or her beliefs. The best thing would be to follow the golden rule of life – Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you. Or – Do unto others what you want others to do unto you.
Dear Lord
Have mercy on Michael. Please forgive him and open his eyes to see you.
Amen
