60 Deaths Due to Dengue in 72 Days

The Epidemiology Unit has recorded 60 deaths due to dengue during the last 72 days this year. The Unit stated that while there were 6,557 dengue patients recorded during the first three months of last year, the first 72 days this year has seen 9,653 persons affected by dengue. The Epidemiology Unit report also noted that 14 out of the 60 persons who died due to dengue this year have been from the Jaffna District and 11 deaths have been reported from the Colombo District. The highest number of dengue patients has been recorded from the Jaffna District: 1,723 cases. There have been 1,216 and 1,197 patients recorded from the Gampaha and Colombo Districts respectively.
