Tid Arrests Journalist Ruwan Weerakoon

Defence correspondent Ruwan Weerakoon was arrested last week by the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) for his alleged links with former Army Commander and defeated Presidential candidate Retired General Sarath Fonseka.

Weerakoon works for The Nation and the Bottom Line newspapers in and is also a correspondent for the Asia Tribune website.

Five media organizations have condemned the arrest and called on the IGP to disclose the reasons for Weerakoon’s arrest and detention.
