Karu Files FR to Implement Media Regulations

UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya yesterday (23) filed a fundamental rights case before the Supreme Court seeking an order that the Elections Commissioner must implement regulations for the media during the general election period within a week’s time.

Citing Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake and the Attorney General as respondents, Jayasuriya stated in the petition that the Elections Commissioner has failed to fulfill the promises made to conduct a free and fair poll at the Presidential Election.

According to Jayasuriya, the regulations should be imposed on all parties contesting the election.
