“A Diabolical Lie” – Says Johnston

By Cassandra Mascarenhas

Johnston Fernando vehemently denied reports that he met with an accident last week when travelling with popular female artist Samitha Mudunkotuwa in his car.

“These stories are all false rumours. I was never in any accident and I’m perfectly fine. I will be pressing charges against all the news agencies and media that reported this fictional accident,” Fernando said angrily when asked about the incident.

The UPFA candidate, who crossed over from the UNP to the Government obtained a ministerial portfolio and won the Kurunegala seat in the recently held general elections was allegedly involved in an accident while travelling with Samitha who had sustained serious injuries as a result of it.

The singer had to then be admitted to a private hospital in Colombo and received treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She was seen attending shooting for the reality show Sirasa Super Stars in a wheelchair a few days ago however.

The police were never properly informed of this incident. They apparently received a fabricated story about the story, although there was no mention of Samitha’s presence in this fictitious story.

Samitha Mudunkotuwa is married to musician Athula Adhikari and is a mother of one. The Sunday Leader tried repeatedly to contact Mudunkotuwa but she remained unavailable for comment.

Sounds like Ministerial work has been started even before swearing ceromany

    • Egodage

If Samitha met with an accident and critically injured while travelling with JF, how come JF is not injured?
Only news reports shows that Samitha was in ICU, nothing about JF. He was seen during swearing ceromony. I cannot understand the truth of this story.

      Hey Psycho,
you correctly said that our law (law of westerners may be little modified) do not prevent any adults either married or unmarried to have what ever the intimacy with consent. my question do you agree with it morally if it is happened to be somebody known to you?
I quote a news item in Sunday Times on 2010-04-24

A soldier attached to an Army camp in Vavuniya was arrested after attempting to kill his wife, another soldier reported to be her lover and his child.
The soldier had warned his wife before escaping from Maamaduwa Army camp in Vavuniya with several guns.
A few months ago, again a soldier killed his wife, her sister and another man for same reason in Anuradhapura. and he saved the child though. this story also was in Daily Mirror. these type of incidents are very commonly happening in our land. Don’t you feel some discrepancy exist between the law and the community. The killings or attempted killings are the last resort but I cannot imagine how much he and the family would have suffered mentally?

So, what is your solution for this kind of problems It is in reality a FLAW in the law and morality. It should either be changed or barrow the law from Islam and incorporate and follow it.

      • Cren

Come on Azath how come you ask a blind person to separate pebbles from diamonds.Psycho is mentally retarded suffering from an enlarged brain. He cannot give any solution only illusions. His comments and arguments makes no sense, wastage of time and opinion.

        • azath

          Yes Cren,
Thank you for the comment and you are correct, but it may induce others to think of the flaws in the law.

This shows how powerful the media is. By the time public finds out the truth the damage is done. This is how Sarath Fonseka parchuted to become a presidential candidate, though he did not have a vote for himself, and is a dual citizen with dual loyalities. That created the situation for him to please his american masters at the expense of his own President. Fonseka took the short cut to power by choosing to abandon his roots for the sake of greener pastures. I wish Johnston Fernando will become a capable and credible minister to unify forces of the opposition towards the development effort undertaken by the government.

  5. Srilankan media had to be curbed, for countless false allegations and abuses against GOSL and there members and when the gosl try to stop some journalist for such abuses the human rightist, media right group and all those opposition vultures name them as media suppression by the govt. Let be fair to all never tarnish the reputation of individual or charactor assasination or false allegations for pity political gains. Now the elections are over let unite for the sake of the country. Its the duty of every citizen as well as journalist to expose corruptions at all level , and to report and expose all evil and menace to society. We are people of tolerance, let respect every one s personal and private life . Let move on.

  6. lkcricket

I think all these media goons think that they are above the Law and order of the country. These media goons think that they are superior to other citizens of the country. As far as law and order is concerned, it is applicable to each and everyone irrespective of caste creed race or rank. Only exception is the Presdent of the country that has been specified by the constitution.

The journalist should not be biased and should not be politically motiavted. They should respect truth and discourage the falsehood. If they cant do that they should not be journalists. There should be a proper structure of law and also code of ethics to control the unethical media personnel as well as media instituition in the country.

MP, Ginnak Nethuwa Duamk Naginne Ne- What about the $500, 000 in a bank safe belonged to Danuna.

  8. Ranj

[though he did not have a vote for himself, and is a dual citizen with dual loyalities. That created the situation for him to please his american masters at the expense of his own President. ]

Diabolical lie.. SF is only a citizen of Sri Lanka. SF is a greencard older while Gotha is a duel citizen. If we are to accept your argument, It is the gotha who have duel loyality..

  9. Ranj

[The journalist should not be biased and should not be politically motiavted. ]

Start from state media.. State media is supposed to serve people. It is the people’s money that maintain theses institutions. While government put state media into prostitution you say other media to to be unbiased..?

  10. Ranj

[What about the $500, 000 in a bank safe belonged to Danuna.]

Election money received from abroad….. Can you elaborate howmany billions of people’s money was wasted by government goons for both elections?

    • dp

if it was election money received as donations..why was it smuggled in illegally?..i think the main question about the money is did it come through a diplomat for special purpose?

      • sandman

Why not ask the same question from the government thugs who spent not their money but our money on their campaign used government property for their personal purposes.Ask Mervyn from where Kudu is coming into this country and who is the kudu raja ? The general was the BEST COMMANDER IN THE WORLD a while back but now slime like u question his integrity.

        • dp

@sandman….it’s simple..if you know so well who is in kudu business make a complaint ,drag him to courts and prove yourself…which is what the general is facing…trying to prove point on media is just for publicity..your Jilmart uncle made a huge issue about computer Jilmart…but simply dropped it when had to face court[reality]….why don’t you ask your hero to produce his son in law to courts ..if he is not guilty?..Anoma says a lot in press conferences but nothing about her court absconding ,hora baana..and you still bray..

        • M.H.Sheriff

          I say Mr dp
dont bluff & become MR henchmen, are you blind to the fact of Neomal Pereras secretary who is a UPFA henchaiyah got caught recently smuggling the largest quantity of heroine in Srilanka, go & check the records or ask people of chilaw how he escaped the
law nothing could be proved my dear if your with the ruling party thats why many lick the boots of MR, regarding the computer jilmart was the computers used by Election Commissioners accessible to
DNA to trace a jilmart, firstly MR thugs never allowed SF supporters to put up posters or cut outs will they give the computer to trace frauds besides any computer programs could be deleted in minutes & installed new programs with a preplanned CD.
If SFs son in law is produced to Gotas clan will keep him in a cell without charges untill he confess for bogus charges after severe torture.

  11. dp

the accident is one issue……….whichever way if samitha was injured ,treated in ICU and gets about in a wheel chair…….is it sooo important for her to attend a reality show??????…was the show to be canceled in her absence?..this is all cheap publicity….

  12. Some people who comment above are idiots.” Yanne koheda malle pol.”
For any thing these traitors drag the heroic General.

  13. this stories is media freedam they can public fabricated stories any ware any time …….media take cair

  14. Dear Editor
Pl.delete my name as appearing above as an example

  15. Could be a true story. Remember some time back in 2001 or 2002, the same couple made headlines having gone on a ‘not too indiscreet ‘ trip to Badulla / Bandarawela? Samitha was reported to have been hysterical without her baby. Johnston had to send his car back in the night itself to bring her child to her.. Athula forgave her then. Maybe 2 consenting adults can do it, but what about moral values? Is adultery an accepted way of life in this country? Does our culture and Buddhism endorse it? The show goes on….

  21. Amarnath Sunderagama

To Mario,…..believe me, our Buddhist culture has nothing to do with these lay lives and values. That is why in our past, before the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British came, there was “eka gei kema” (where a young girl is brought home as wife to all the brothers) and “binna beheema” (a man going to settle in a house and taking all the sisters as his concubines).
This puritanical marriage of “one wife – one husband” is not ours in any way. Its the Victorian tradition of the West that came with Catholicism.
SO, what is happening now is that, ALL these Sinhala Buddhist campaigners are fighting hard to establish a “puritanical Victorian society” as a Buddhist society.
    Good luck to them!

    • saro

Well said, so Jonny and the like, do carry on as you like it…….anyone can binna bahinda puluwan den since it is our culture

    • Mr Sunderagama: Whether one likes it or not, what you said in brief is not incorrect. Though Buddha had only one wife his father had two. We have no qualm about that. So much so, there was nothing adulterous in our culture to have more than one partner openly. In fact, it had been left for individuals to decide.

Catholics can have only one partner for life. Divorce is not an acceptable life style to church dogma: Taking another partner in one’s lifetime is not only a sin that would send that person to hell to burn for ever but has been introduced as an anti social affair as well. It is that church dogma that made people in some orthodox sections of society even today to look down on divorce.

Once, Henry the 8th introduced his own form of Christianity where divorce is not a sin and remarrying individuals are sent to heaven instead of hell, that new pattern of divorcing and remarrying had become a trend setter.

These ideologies were set upon us by the white man that washed up to our shores in 1505 and afterwards. And the present law says we need not follow the Catholic style of one partner for life but take a cue from the Anglo-Saxon style of one partner at a time.

In another branch of Christianity, Mormons, men are encouraged for polygamy or to have more than one wife. As if it is the fashion just imagine how many today have a concubine on the sly.

Considering the variety options that the God is said to have approved, I cannot understand which Christianity is moral.

    1. What is Islaam?

The word “Islaam” is an Arabic word that means “submitting and surrendering your will to Almighty God”. The word comes from the same root as the Arabic word “salam”, which means peace. Unlike the names used for other religions, such as Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity, the name for the religion of Islaam was both revealed by God and carries a deep spritual meaning – only by submitting one’s will to Almighty God can one obtain true peace both in this life and in the life hereafter. Islaam teaches that all religions originally had the same essential message – which was to submit whole-heartedly to the will of God and to worship Him and Him alone. For this reason, Islaam is not a new religion but is the same divinely revealed Ultimate Truth that God revealed to all prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus.

    2. Who are Muslims?

The Arabic word “Muslim” literally means “someone who submits to the will of God”. The message of Islaam is meant for the entire world and anyone who accepts this message becomes a Muslim. Some people mistakenly believe that Islaam is just a religion for Arabs, but nothing could be further from the truth, since in actuality over 80% of the world’s Muslims are not Arabs! Even though most Arabs are Muslims, there are Arabs who are Christians, Jews and atheists. If one just takes a look at the various peoples who live in the Muslim World – from Nigeria to Bosnia and from Morocco to Indonesia – it is easy enough to see that Muslims come from all different races, ethnic groups and nationalities. From the very beginning, Islaam had a universal message for all people. This can be seen in the fact that some of the early companions of the Prophet Muhammad were not only Arabs, but also Persians, Africans and Byzantine Romans. Being a Muslim entails complete acceptance and active obedience to the revealed will of Almighty God. A Muslim is a person who freely accepts to base his beliefs, values and faith on the will of Almighty God. In the past, even though you don’t see it as much today, the word “Mohammedans” was often used as a label for Muslims. This label is a misnomer and is the result of either wilful distortion or sheer ignorance. One of the reasons for the misconception is that Europeans were taught for centuries that Muslims worshipped the Prophet Muhammad in the same way that Christians worship Jesus. This is absolutely not true since a Muslim is not permitted to worship anyone or anything besides Almighty God.

    3. Who is Allaah?

Very often one will here the Arabic word “Allaah” being used in regards to Islaam. The word “Allaah” is simply the Arabic word for Almighty God, and is the same word used by Arabic speaking Christians and Jews. If one were to pick up an Arabic translation of the Bible, one would see the word “Allaah” being use where the word “God” is used in English. Actually, the Arabic word for Almighty God, “Allaah”, is quite similar to the word for God in other Semitic languages – for example, the Hebrew word for God is “Elah”. For various reasons, some non-Muslims mistakenly believe that Muslims worship a different God than the God of Moses and Abraham and Jesus. This is certainly not the case, since the Pure Monotheism of Islaam calls all people to the worship of the God of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and all of the other prophets.

  36. Cren

Correct submitting and surrendering your will to Almighty God”is the truth in reality. But in a small island surrounded by the Indian Ocean have you heard about that legend Saradiel?. Frightens Peter, grab his will, and donate it Paul.Simple philosophy grab anothers will, from the almighty mudalali’s and surrender to full fill your desires.

  39. Oh!Common Guys and Gals!!A little bit of fun after a hectic election campaign is permitted. Before he looses his sight after getting immersed in all those trade deals, it is better he can have a little bit of distraction and play with his favourite toys!!We had former high flier who was playing on the ground ,disgraced but resurrected with a plum diplomatic position. This is Sri Lanka and it really does not matter ,trivial things like this!!Because we have a very loyal vote base who is ever willing to elect these jewels of the nations to be our masters.

  40. Ban Ki Choon

Another SCANDEL which will go under the carpet with the help of police. Remember former Commander of Air Force met with an accident near Borella???

We need to rethink about open legal system. However I agree anybody can associate whoever like each other as a part of democratic process but any accident cannot be treated simply as there has to be a legal follow up requirement.
