A situation of unrest was reported in Mattakuliya on Saturday, with residents from the area attacking and damaging the police station, when it was discovered that a youth who was taken into police custody was injured.
The following day, residents from the area (behind the Mattakuliya police station) claimed that their houses and belongings were damaged and destroyed by a ‘large number’ of policemen that had appeared in the late hours of the night.
Whilst media reports claim that Police Spokesman SP Prashanth Jayakody had said that a number of teams had been sent from the police and the army to bring the situation under control, area residents claim that teams of men in civil clothing had run rampage.
The Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya had subsequently ordered the transfer of the entire police body at the Mattakuliya Police Station, pending an inquiry into the incident.

Looks like could identified through an identification parade, this issue needs to be resolved reasonably and justly. Why is the police not having an identification parade, is it because they are guilty. WHY IS THE GOVT PROTECTING THE POLCE FORCE THAT IS UNJUSTLY ATTACKING ITS OWN CITIZENS

The video proves the hooliganism of the police. The transferred policemen will slowly be brought back. No disciplinary inquiry will take place. No polceman has yet been charged with murder in custody, torture, assault, ‘disappearance’ of those arrested, and never for non attendance of courts.
It is reported that SSP Vass Genwardena who is indicted along with his wife and son in the assault of student Nipuna Ramanayake has not attended court many times to date.The magistrate is yet to issue arrest warrants.
