Sri Lankan Plans Airport Hotel
Sri Lankan Airlines is still in the ‘feasibility stage’ of a project involving the construction of a hotel located just outside the airport, a spokesman from the national carrier said.
Sri Lankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickremesinghe earlier announced plans to build an airport hotel directly in front of the departure lounge, on an abandoned factory site. He added the hotel would have at least 125 rooms, to cater to an influx of tourists following the end of the war.
However the spokesman was quick to assert that the airline merely intended to build the hotel, and had to look at various aspects before finalising the project.
Sri Lankan Airlines has already announced plans for expansion. Just two days ago, a new Airbus A330 was added to the carrier’s fleet. Chairman Wickremesinghe has spoken of further expansion plans, including increasing it’s network, to be put in place as soon as next month, according to the airline spokesman.

I’m an Irish Journalist hoping to go to Sri Lanka next year for a month or two – I would like to talk to the editor of the Sunday Leader, or any of the reporters, but I cannot seem to find an email address on this site?
Philip why don’t u contact the SL embassy in Hague or yuor foriegn office. Iam sure they ll be able to help u.
I will also speak to these people, for visas etc.. But I’m interested in speaking to the Leader for more professional reasons.
BEFORE PLANING TO BUILD HOTELS,SRI LANKAN AIR LINE SHOULD CONSIDER TO DO IT’S AIR LINE BUSINESS PROPERLY.LOSS MAKING AIR LINE IS A SHAME AS A BUSINESS VENTURE.DOING BUSINESS OVER 60 YEARS OR SO,THIS AIR LINE STILL CAN’T FLY IN TIME.CAN’T MAKE A PROFITABLE BUSINESS.WITHOUT MAKING JOKES,THIS AIR LINE MANAGEMENT SHOULD FOCUS ON IT’S OWN BUSINESS,GOOD MANAGEMENT AND PROFITABLE AIR LINE.
Due to nonprofessional… they cannot figure out ways to properly do their business and want to enter other areas which they see as profit making… what a way to go for these politically motivated department heads… please understand we are adults in the real world with real money, NOT CHILDREN PLAYING GAMES.
Not being funny in any way to you Mr Philip Ryan, but to find that you are a Journalist and you claim that you are unable to find a contact address for the Sunday Leader is truly shocking. The contact details are given above, all you need to do is press the button that says contact us. Anyway here are the details and good luck in your endeavors.
