UNP’s Karu: Leave A Party Worth Fighting For
UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya has made an appeal to party colleagues to be cautious, maintain decorum and have a united approach in the face of one of the worst crises faced by the UNP in its glorious 60-year history.
He also observes that there is a need for the UNP, like any institutional structure, to possess a succession plan. “Before we resort to squabbling over positions, let us first work to ensure there is a party left worth fighting for. The UNP needs to wake up and take the fight to this regime.”
Jayasuriya has stated that it is the internal rifts and challenges within the UNP has stunted the role of the opposition and allowed the government a blank cheque to get on with its business in any merry way they please.
“Leadership battles, personality clashes and backroom negotiations and horse-trading have taken precedence over a crying need for the UNP to go back to its roots, to seek out the grassroots support that was once unquestionably ours and find ways in which to stall the government juggernaut as it rolls along, dragging Sri Lanka along a path of anarchy, repression and economic ruin,” he states.
According to Jayasuriya, even though the struggle to overcome this crisis period, it is the UNP that can and will one day reverse the trend this government is leading Sri Lanka on. “This party is founded on honorable principles and the efforts of great men who to this day are regarded as the heroes of this nation. We will not be kept down for much longer. We urge party colleagues to join us in taking the fight to this government now, rather than allowing the situation to deteriorate further,” he stated.

Well said Mr.Karu Jayasooriya. The problem of the UNP is the maintaining of the Team Spirit. No need to comment more.
Team Spiriy Palipana ??? One team Ranil wants in UNP is his Colombo 7 team, RW, Malik, Vajira Abe, and others who travel and have fun with Ranil…… No other teams can exist in UNP. UNP is the most dictotarial party in Sri Lanka as of now under Ranil, Tissa and Malik and Karu what are you doing about it ?
M r. Palipana, Did you mean a lack of team spirit?
Karu you are one of those who destroyed the party by getting over 40 members to join the MR government. People of Gampaha taught you a lesson and if Joseph Micheal contested you would have lost. Your only qualifications is that Ranil uses you as a pawn to put down the popular leader who are waiting in the wings. We need Ranil out of leadership and please fall in line with that or else more leaders will leave the UNP.
Tell Ranil to retire gracefully before been thrown out that will help to solve most of the issues in the party.
Karu, please expedite the ammendments to the party constitution and make the party democratic and let people comment freely rather than been dictatorial like Ranil and Tissa Attanayake. It is shameful what the present leaders are doing to the grand old party. Let all give their views to the public on the party and be democratic.
Is Ranil deaf and blind??Doesn’t he get it that 85% of the UNPers against him.Where in the world such an idiot, stupid asshole stick to the leadership, by depriving the country and the party. Can someone do something to this asshole
Hi Karu,
at last You are thinking abt a party which You have destroyed few years back. Why so keen on unp?? Are u whole hearted green blooded guy??I dont think so.nobody in UNP want to see u as a leader.take my word.We know u are supporting Mahinda indirectly & playing a political game.Because of some dirty political games played by you we losy abt 40+ prominent unp leaders. Please shut up Your mouth & wait.i hate you from the bottom of my heart.
It was 60 glorious years for the UNP & Karu. Not for the masses and the Country.
Karu its not glory… it is GORY…………..
Hon. Karu! did you even hesitate think of the future of the party when you left it for reasons that only you can comment?
Isn’t it also ironic to read comments from the same MP how the party faithfuls should conduct affairs? What a joker you have now become. There will not be a party with people like you at the helm.
On another note, You seem to suggest to involve grass roots in the party affairs. If that is the case why not allow provincial council memmbers and others to vote in the leadership election?
You never had the stomach to take up a battle in politics. That is your problem and someone like you giving advice to others make me cringe.
Karu Don’t spek about UNP…. You are the first person who destroyed unp ranil come after you. Both of you have to leave party . Its our wish.
I am with You Mahanama. He is acting like a Baby.
best option is join hands with mahinda again.use all your experiance to do it.You know wat has happened to Wijayapala Mendis?? another old useless bugger just like You.same thing will happen to you in near future. We will vote for real unp leaders like Joseph micheal perera,Ruwan Wijewardena,John Amarathunga etc from Gampaha district. You will never get my vote.My opinion is You are a dirty politician.
YOU ARE THE ONE TRAITORS WHO FLED THE UNP WITH MANY OTHER TRAITORS FOR MONEY AND BENEFITS.NOW YOU TELLING OTHERS TO BE UNITED?.YOU LIER AND ANTI UNP FOOL.JUST GET OUT FROM UNP AND LET IT RUN BY TRUE UNPIERS,JUST LIKE RANIL,SAJITH,RAVI AND OTHER WHO NEVER JUMPED OUT FROM PARTY FOR MONEY AND POSITIONS.
100%.he is a traitor.
Mr.Karu Jayasooriya, you must read the above comments of our respected SriLankan gentlemen. Your family too is responsible for the present situation of the UNP. I too worked for the Mahaweli project for a short period but ge a very brief knowledge on Gamini Dissanayeke family during the end of 1988 in Kothmale. We know very well how his kids spent an ultra-luxury lives while other kids of the area were struggling to find the day-to-day means. All the funds(soft loans) came from the Foreign Agencies. But thanks to the Mahaweli Engineers the project was a very success to the required quality stand.ards. The engineers were fully quallified engineers from the Peradeniya and Moratuwa Universities. Now look at the quality standards of the Southern Expressway compared to the Mahaweli project. Don’t forget that the UNP is halfly responsible for this political blunder too.
Karu is voicing the right sentiments at the wrong time. He is another priviledged Colombo Politician. Malik is another sidekick who really will do anything to keep Ranil (His School Mate) in power and retained the leadership of the UNP within the Colombo Priviledged circle. According Karu;”“This party is founded on honorable principles and the efforts of great men who to this day are regarded as the heroes of this nation…” He is right about the founding principles but the Colombo gang has failed to uphold thes noble principles. If democracy to survive in Sri Lanka, we have to get rid of Dictators like Ranil, and others in power . The power must be given to the people back through rightfully elected members of the parliaments; Not the condesending priviledged bunch of families, thugs, merchants of misery, traders of national wealth, kings of percentage takers for selling national wealth, abuser of buddhist doctrine etc.. . Tinkering with amendments (13 and17) all are artificial changes designed to cheat the people and keep the power in the ands of few families. We need a real change within UNP and within the political system in Sri Lanka in order to solve all national problems.
We agree fully with you, Prince Vijaya.
Born Again Christianity is in full force within the party left fighting for. The financial top notch who is also an Christian Preacher, Mr. E Wickramaratne is now in the Parliament thanks to RW. What about the other great party supporters who has worked tirelessly? They are left out. If UNP to move on further and market for the votes, UNP will have to come clean. The majority Sinhala, Buddhist Nation will not stand to defend a Party with hidden agendas. RW will have to resign with dignity with is altar boys who are following him, if UNP is to be revived. People are not fools. We saw what happened to SF. It’s a known fact that Governing party loves to have RW in his current position. With RW and his advisers in place, UNP will not move forward. Karu, you can sit in the back seat for very long time. Karu, you left the party and you came back. This tells us that you are not genuinely supporting the GOP. Any one who left UNP to join other parties should never be allowed to join back. My vote is for Sajith who has silently done lot of work in the South. Karu, you can talk all you want but for the present situation with GOP, you are also to be blamed. As party member, you kept your mouth shut and jumped out of your loyalties to gain individual satisfaction when RW was running the party to the ground. According to some UNP members, they are not happy at all with the present rift deep in side the party. UNP is shifting away very fast from Buddhist values.
Mr.Jayasuriya,
It is time you took a serious look at failed policies of the UNP and its leadership during the last few years. You or your party had no policies that appealed to the masses. Your leadership was bent on deviding the country. There were no hopes given to the general public as your leadership ignored the plight of the masses. Even now, your party has no plans to fight employement, housing, provide opportunities for our youth for higher education, and in general no proposals to aleviate the poor masses. Wake up and get rid of the old leadership and give an opportunity for the up and coming young leadership to take over the reigns. Good Luck Mr. Jayasuriya and bye.
Henry
although, I agree with Karu, may I as many others comments herein blame u for opening the flood gates by fleeing with 17 others for ministerial perks, and with that u lost whatever regard u had in the country.Later, u desert your followers and come back to your old party that brought you to politics to NOW speak of unity. Will u also agree that all those left and behind and u are resposible for the dictatorial actions of this govt. U should jump into the BEIRA.
I blame Mr RW for getting this man again to the party who destroyed it.
Now please do not allow him to issue ideas to meadia this way.
True UNPers than Karu(normal voting citizens of Sri Lanka who never change party have right to advise karu not vise versa) get wild to listen this man who destroyed the UNP most. We sense of impending dangers of struggle for leadership the day Ranil leave the party. And also dont fall into gov traps as if any loose word go out from UNP leaders mouth it will be highlighted and party will loose popularity. Finally all bad outcome come on to you while good go to other side. Some people try to destroy party invoking religious deferences they not only divide on religion but also with mother-tongue.
Keep aside all the differences such as religion or language we all born to this world without anything and goes without anything. But till we die do best to improve the country and live rich peacefully.
The topic of this news item seems to be the truth that slipped from Karu’s lips or rather his pen. “Leave a party worth fighiting for” Once you left this party worth fighing for. Are you appealing to other members to leave the party though it is worth fighting for?
Vijith,do u know wat the democrazy is?? dont try to kill democrazy. religon of a person is not a barrier wen it to comes to politics.keep that in mind.
DEAR FRIENDS,FORGET ABOUT RELIGIONS WITH POLITICS.WHO FOLLOW RELIGIONS?.ALLMOST ALL BUDDHIST ARE MEAT EATERS,MOST ARE ALKOHOL DRINKERS,YOU KNOW MANY OTHER SINS THEY MARE DOING TOTALY AGAINST THE BUDDHISM.SRI LANKA IS A CHRISTIAN COUNTRY,CHRISTIANS ARE ALLOWED TO EAT MEAT,FISH,DRINK ALKOHOL ETC…,BY TALKING THEY ARE BUDDHISTS,BY ACTION THEY ARE ANTI BUDDHISTS.JUST TALK ABOUT POLITICS.DON’T MIX POLITICS WITH ANY RELIGION.
If you get Chandrike to contest under the UNP she will certainly do much better than this puffter Ranil , she may even win elections on the UNP ticket,,,, these days even traditional UNP ers are voting for other parties as a protest vote,, the ponnaya doesnt realise this,, he has no insight!!
