Debut Drama
It’s cool in the furnace,” an American musical based on the three Biblical characters, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who were thrown into the fire by King Nebuchadnezzar for not worshipping him, will go on stage in Colombo On October 29.
A debut production of the Christian Arts Foundation (CHRAFT), it’s directed by Jerome de Silva and funded by a philanthropist who doesn’t want to be identified. The caste comprises mainly children of between eight to 16 years of age. The object of CHRAFT is to propagate the Gospel through drama and song, but it’s not necessarily confined to aspiring Christian actors only.
A nominal fee is charged for those would be dramatists, young and old, where auditions are held at this philanthropist’s residence in the week-ends.
CHRAFT’s Ms. Ruskshana Wickramanayake (21) told The Sunday Leader that CHRAFT helps children to be extroverted. There was an 11 year old introverted child who came to CHRAFT the other day, but on the very first day itself he lost all his inhibitions thanks to CHRAFT, she said.
CHRAFT helps to bring out the latent creative talents of a child.
