Bus Strike Called Off

The Private Bus Owners Association (PBOA) today (26) evening decided to postpone a strike planned to at midnight.

PBOA President Gemunu Wijeratne said the Association decided to postpone the strike after they held discussions with Western Province Transport Minister Upali Kodikara.

Wijeratne said the Minister had agreed at the meeting to reduce charges of route permits and accordingly a route permit would be Rs. 500 while other permits will also be reduced.

The PBOA initially decided to launch a strike at midnight today against the decision of the Western Provincial Council to increase the charges if route permits and other charges.

This lily livered bunch at the Transport Authority by giving in to their threats is hoarding up a heap of problems. How are they going to introduce the much needed reforms now? There’s no light at the end of the tunnel for us downtrodden commuters.
