Colombo Plans Northern Highway
Sri Lanka has applied for a loan from the Asian Development Bank to rehabilitate and improve 170km of road under the Northern Road Connectivity Project. The Road Development Authority has opened bids for ten sections of road from Dambulla to Mullativu. Much of this road work passes through formerly LTTE territory including the hard-fought stretch between Mankulam and Mullativu.
“We have been told it will cost 500 million dollars. It is not in our country assistance strategy at the moment,” ADB’s country director Richard Vokes told LBO.
The ADB is currently funding a Southern Expressway project. Recently a University of Moratuwa report found subpar construction on 28 out of 73 bridges tested, requiring complete overhaul or reinforcement.

Our Local Construction Industry could manage this project very easily. Our Hon.President should get instructions from our very senior highway engineers Mr.Chandrasena and Mr.ThilaK wijesinghe. As the loan is re-paid by our overall population please employ our local consultants and contractors.

Mr. P.L.J.B.Palipana are you so naive or nuts. Sure our local engineers can do all the projects presently done by the foreigners in Sri lanka but then you would be depriving the large humble and extremely poor Rajapaksha family of their commission on these projects. How could you be so cruel.
Those projects were given to the Foreign Contrators for commissions. I extremely beleive that our Local Consultants and Contractors will not be in favour of that criminal act(COMMISSIONS)
Dear RDA,
Please reject all the BIDDERS below the ENGINEER’S ESTIMATE.
