Students To March On Police Headquarters Today

The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) has organized a protest march and a sathyagraha outside the Police Headquarters today (28) against the alleged police brutality on university students.

Speaking to The Sunday Leader IUSF Convener Udul Premaratne said the protest march would commence from the Viharamahadevi Park in the afternoon and proceed towards the Police Headquarters where the protestors would hold a sathyagraha.

Premaratne vowed to continue with the planned protest regardless of the obstacles they would have to face.

He said that authorities were trying to prevent students from participating in the protest by not permitting buses to leave the respective university premises. He noted that students from the Peradeniya, Ruhuna and Sabaragamuwa universities have been prevented by authorities in such a manner.

“We will somehow go ahead as planned and get these students to arrive in Colombo using alternative means of transport,” he said.

Premaratne observed that the protest was organized against the police brutality on university students, which recently resulted in the death of a third year student at the Ruhuna University.

The students should be made to study at the same time the police should be made to protect the public… I dont think this would have gone this far if an impartial inquiry is held, nobody has any credibility of our police force. It was the other forces that destroyed the terrorists… So many cases of police brutality are dragging and pending justice… This is a suspected case specially since the IGP was so quick to jump into conclutions

  2. .WHEN HUNDREDS OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WERE KILLED…ARRESTED..TORTURED..IN NORTH-EAST NOT A DOG BARK..SIMPLY BECAUSE THESE STUDENTS ARE TAMILS….NOW IN SOUTH THEIR OWN DOGS ARE BITING THEM…..SOON THERE WILL BE A ARMY CAMP AT EVERY SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY….LIKE NORTH-EAST. CAMPUSES….ENJOY IT
