20 Soldiers Injured In Vavuniya Crash

Two officers and 18 other military personnel were admitted to the Vavuniya hospital following a road accident, according to acting Military spokesman Colonel Duminda Gamage.

The bus was reportedly transporting troops from Elephant Pass to Anuradhapura.

Gamage explained that the bus had been trying to overtake a bowser. The bowser had suddenly turned at the time of the accident. It was earlier reported that the military bus had run off the road and crashed into a tree.

Fortunately, Gamage said that as the vehicles were traveling at low speed, the casualties suffered by the troops were minor. “There were no serious injuries” Gamage said.
He added that according to information received by him some of the injured had already been discharged.

Colonel Gamage added that investigations were being conducted by civil and military police. As such, the definitive cause of the collision was unknown. “Once the official investigation is concluded, the cause of the accident will be announced” Gamage said.

These Military drivers have no patience…………..

I had a narrow shave coming from Dambulla once when a Military truck was overtaking despite a stream of on coming traffic.

When these Military drivers transport their personell they get into a king of “Mob Psychology or a Mob Frenzy” and disrespect all road rules.

The Officers in this Military Transport must provide a clear picture of what happened and if the Military driver is in the wrong stern action need to be taken.

Need to introduce overtaking lanes in Sri Lanka ASAP,,This will reduce all most all the major accidents , Road needs to be wide enough to have three lanes, Middile lane can be used for overtaking for both directions in permitted areas and for turning bays
