Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera has levelled fierce criticism at the heads of the National Lotteries Board, the Development Lotteries Board and State Mortgage Bank for the wastage of public funds and has banned official foreign tours for all politically appointed departmental heads that come under his purview
At the first review meeting Dr. Jayasundera had with the new Boards of Directors of government institutions under the Finance Ministry, the Treasury Secretary has urged all the heads of departments to cut down expenses as the Treasury is facing a severe financial crisis, a senior official who attended the meeting told The Sunday Leader.
“Only the People’s Bank and its Chairman was hailed for operating expenses carefully. The National Lotteries Board, the Development Lotteries Board and State Mortgage Bank were some of the few institutions came under severe criticism by Dr. Jayasundera. The Secretary warned the Chairmen, Directors and Chief Executive Officers (CEO) against using more than one vehicle and ordered them to use only one vehicle and only to send permanent officers abroad if necessary banning the heads of departments from official foreign tours in future,” the official added
They further said that the Treasury Secretary has ordered all the heads to revert back to the government approved allowances and has advised them not to draw big salaries in future.
“We were told that the Treasury is facing a severe financial crisis and has found it difficult to implement the promises given to the masses during the elections. As a result we were asked not to give any donations or to sponsor any event which costs the institutions dearly and to contribute those excess funds towards the Treasury in order to ease the financial crisis,” the sources said.
According to the sources this was the first time a Treasury Secretary had reprimanded heads of departments on departmental expenses.
However Advisor – Financial Management, Finance Ministry, V. Kanagasabapathy told The Sunday Leader that the Treasury Secretary did not at any point urge the heads of department to cut down expenses but only had a cordial review meeting.
“There were no reprimands or warnings to the heads of departments but certain requests were made as usual,” Kanagasabapathy said.

What about the others from Rupavahini, Justice MInistry, Environment ministry who just travel abroad to sleep in conferences and to have a good time. ?I have many examples to prove my point. Environment ministry is a joke and as is the Justice ministry. Do they learn anything from these trips? Not at all, just speanding my money.

WHEN A FISH ROTS WHERE DOES IT START ?????
some one had been bold enough to highlight the plight of my people. The corrupt political system and their appointees wasting public money when the masses are suffering. This was the crime covered by the war.
We were suffering double wars before. now one war is over its time to battle the more dangerous war.
Thereponsible media should play an unbiased & a balance role in this by making the masses aware about what’s happening .
The the learned people and the media should genuinely address this issue so that a consences for good governance will come to stay. So that all the poeple will sahre equally the countries wealth.
The hipocrisy of the political parties and political leaders should be highlighted in a way without personal slandering but on policy matters. So that they are forced to implement and do what is right.
