Tamil Circles

An actual Tamil circle, from Tamil Nadu, which is really quite cool
TamilNet sort of lost it when the war ended. TamilNet, if you’re unaware, was the LTTE mouthpiece then an anti-KP mouthpiece and now a chewed off rump LTTE mouthpiece. Occasionally (coincidentally moreso) they do mete out some news, but lately I read them more for entertainment value. I especially enjoy their ‘Features’ which are meandering exhortations to separatism and denunciations of the usual suspects. My favorite feature of the features is that major opinions are cited to ‘Tamil circles’ or sometimes just Tamils. For example – “Do they think it is easier to drive the people into corporate slavery by retaining the present conditions, Tamils wonder.” Most Tamils I know are not possessed of such a Borg mind but what do I know.
Another bit I enjoyed was that ‘Tamil circles’ is actually a sentient enough entity that it can speak in direct quotes:
“They are absolutely right since the development they mean is not even economic liberation of people,” responded Tamil circles.
I personally wish I had Tamil Circles phone number so I could get some quotes from him (her?). In seriousness, I think this features are just opinion columns, but the arrogance of presuming to speak for an entire race has gotten worse. There are a lot of Tamil circles that agree with TamilNet, but there are a lot that don’t, and it just reads as dumb if you’re not already drinking the Odiyal Kool Aid. Not persuasive, and TamilNet needs to persuade without bombs at its back.
In other news, KP’s old blog is now a health page. I suppose the Ministry of Defence is keeping him in a spa.

How come the sunday leader is publishing articles like this and those from D.B.S.Jeyaraj. These are biased and not conveying truthful matter. I feel bad that this paper had forgotten the last editorial from the great man and his promise about this paper to the minorities.
Vathy, Minoirty yes but terrorist and its rump, No!!. Does it hurt so much when someone highlights the facts? I too used to read Tamilnet for awhile and found it distastefully lopsided towards LTTE and its separatist ideology, so I am wrong in sating the TN is biased too?
Gamunu, I do not read TamilNet or Tamil Circle. I am not bothered if TamilNet supports LTTE or not. If Indi had written this article only to point out TamilNet’s biased approach then I would not have objected. The way this article is written clearly shows that Tamils should not ask for their rights. Tamils are minorities but rights are denied in this country. Asking for a separate state is well within International laws but LTTE was condemned for their process. How come you are assuming that you are correct?Of course you are wrong again.
Hey look,… somebody is hurt, when suddenly noticing his(?her) favorite news channel posted the “surprise article”, instead of the normal anti MR stuff!! Ha Ha Ha…. Hooo Hooo !!!
Very cheap article…. I do not normally support Tamilnet views but what’s wrong with quoting ‘Tamil circle’ . sounds to me writer is commissioned by GOSL to write this article
Nada, you didn’t say that you didn’t support the Tamil Net then, did you? If you did they would have found who you were and punished you or your relatives. that is fact. You can be brave now even to expresss your views openly. It is no different to calling the sinhala circle or the sinhala chauvanists by the TN.
gamuni, agree with some of your views but to date I do not know anyone is and was being punished by media circular for expressing their views but I seen many cases media people killed by Government of Sri Lanka for expressing their views ( i.e Lasantha W).
What is wrong in saying “Tamil Circles”. Look at the message not at the messenger. Are the messages hurting you? Sunday Leader is a paper that published articles for few weeks preceding the murder of Kathirgarmar that the then president was planning to kill him. Few days before his murder it reported that he was afraid to go to parliament complex to sign a select committee report he wanted the document to be sent to him. Once the murder was committed it did not disagree with police and the Sinhalese circles as it suite it, dropped the story about the plot which it gave much publicity. But when Lasanta was killed it did not agree with the police and the Sinhalese circle. So finally they came for me. Now you are worried about the Tamil Circle but not about the message Tamil Net is conveying. Because you are not in the Tamil circle. Tamil circle members are afraid to come out because of the fear of abduction and disappearance.
Don’t be afraid pal, just feel free to express your ideas,.dear…… I changed the color of my van to red, & now it’s hired by the anti-dengue campaign!!
Tamil Net is kinda funny to read …!!! specially articles related to history of Sri Lanka and the way they justify their ideology .
Any media has the right to defend their nation but today only few media concern about their loyalty. As a media has the bounded duty to protect the freedom of their nation. But today in Srilanka the legislations were favouring to the govt in order to achieve their aims. The media is the key factor of binding the society, education, growth of economy and the solidarity of the state. So it is necessary to protect rights of the media is very essential.
Circle Member , check the following story from todays Tamilnut.
Does it make any sense?
[TamilNet, Friday, 20 August 2010, 08:27 GMT]
A Tamil woman was killed knocked down by a lorry in front of Vavuniyaa general hospital located along A9 road Thursday around 9:00 a.m. A lorry coming from behind knocked down the woman riding bicycle. She died on the spot.
The victim has been identified as Nadesalingam Logini, 23, employed in a private dispensary in Vavuniyaa.
Vavuniyaa police took the driver of the lorry into custody.
BTW, the headline for the above:
