The woman at the house had heated the nails and then the man inserted them into my body,” she said of her Saudi Arabian employers. These graphic photos were provided to Peramabara by Denagama Dammika, a provincial journalist from Matara.

Not only this employer, the whole saudi govenment is babaric.

I am sure Sri Lanka will not have the guts to confront Saudies.

Recently a saudi judge isin the look out for a surgeon to cut off the spinal chord of an accused who paralysed a victim. Eye for Eye, This is according to some tribal babaric law which Saudis call Sharia.

Now all the muslim halfbaked dogooders can start writing thesis to prove the correcteness of this babarism.

This is not sharia, Islam has nothing to do with this, Saudi Arabia is a Muslim country but only the ignorant believe that they represent Islam. To begin with, Islam is the first to practice that the leader should be elected by the people and is against Monarchism but Saudi is ruled by kings.

Then, how can the employer being a male touch the female house maid, this is against the Sharia. leave alone inserting the nails.

A Muslim will agree this is uncivilized act due to arrogance and low life ego of these new rich barbaric Arabs.

I blame our authorities for giving the impression to these employers and employment agencies that our house maids are cheap. Ranjan Ramanayake has taken up these types of issues several times for so many years but the authorities simply chased him away.

    • HT

Recently a SL judge was also accused of sexually absuing his housemaids….can we brand the SL governemnt as barbaric?

Why dont we just stop conveniently passing the buck, and address the real problems??

-how are we going to provide alternative employment to our people so they can work with respect
-how ar we going to maintain the regs—she was 49 years, beyond the 40 yr limitation
      etc etc.

branding saudi as barabaric doesnt really solve the problem– if they ban houemaids from SL, it will have to be taken as bravely as our GSP ban. SL CANNOT AFFORD SUCH LAPSES- we cna instead diplomatically resolve this by putting in more safety measures

  2. Anger is a natural reaction. But the solutions is not blaming Saudis or some of the low life middlemen. Take action, form/support groups that are finding alternate employment solution for those like this unfortunate woman. Now that the war is over, this too is possible.

Btw, excellent job by the doctors and hospital staff.

    • The war was over more than a year ago. What was “possible” since for this country? – refugees still in barbed camps; IDPs still vanquish without human dignity; cost of living is above the sky limit. You suggest to find an alternate solution? When the GSP was about to be stopped our learned politicians said that they have already found alternate sources. Only gods know what that alternate solutions are. Wait and see, now as the GSP is no more, the reality shows the face and more women from that sector (fre trade zone) will opt to take up jobs as house maids and get some sort of nailings. This country is drowning and the water has reached the nostrils.

  3. Nilanthi

Saudi’s and other Muslim nations who abuses their maid should lean to live like humans not like animals with five senses. I hate them.

    • azath

I condemn the barbaric acts committed on this poor, unfortunate lady but you have conveniently forgotten the ill-treatments highlighted in the media in Sri Lanka by their masters. Very recent one was the Supreme Court Judge’s alleged abuse of the servant girl. and killings and burning of many maids here. So,Painfully, Include your own mother land in your list.

      • Bum Sucker

        Azath the Saudi Sucker.

      • HT

Well said Azaath… we must throw stones from a glasshouse!

SL should do more to protect its people– we cannot keep blaming the outside world for all our illnesses. We must find alternatives to the housemaid issues— we cannot keep sending them to the sharks, and then complain that we got bitten!

    • HT

why dotn we rephrase and say that all individuals who abuse maids should learn to live like humans….. that way we dont portray ourselves to be racist. :)

  4. mango

We have preserve these nails…same nails to that deamon. If our politicians are born for one father then they can confront and punish the deamon by using the support of NGOs and HR watch dogs. Unfortunately by the barbaric act by Sri Lankan government against minorities we lost the support of NGOs and HR watch dogs.

  5. Heba

No way that happened. First of all, if she did infact get abused in Saudi how was she able to get through the “METAL detectors and X-rays in the airport??”
No way they will lt her pass>

    People THINK before accusing!!

  6. Third Angle

HR watch dogs are puppets or prostitutes of US and other powerful western nations. Saudi Arabia is a Islam country but rulers are loyal to US & Western poweres. Therefore, so called Human Right Watch and HR watch dogs in west keep blind eye or run in low profile on these kind of events in Saudi Arabia.

  7. Wimal, why not protest against Saudis in front of Saudi Arabian Embassy in CMB? Stage a hunger strike if you really care for our people.

Mervyn, bring a rope to tie the Saudi Ambassider to a date tree until justice is served.

  8. veer

These Saudi Muslims are aggreessive bunch of inhumane cult who hates non muslims. Unfortunately poor people from south asia stiil serv them as maids. This should be stopped asap and it’s Governments call to provide alternative work for these people.

  9. Ruwan Ferdinandez

Sending poor women to these countries should be completely banned. Ritual sexual mutilation of females is still common in rural areas of Egypt, Libya, Oman and Yemen. As for Saudi, the World Economic Forum 2009 ranked it 130th out of 134 countries for gender parity. It was the only country to score a zero in the category of political empowerment. It is the only country in the world that prohibits women from driving. Women cannot vote or be elected to high political positions. How do you expect them to treat our women any better?

  10. Why aren’t the card board Chandiyas talking now, WI..HELU WANSA (WIMAL GUOOO CHANDIYA), DORTOR HODA HETHA….(MERVIYA) CUT OUT WEERA..PURAN..APPU (CARD BOARD APPU…HE!!!!!!!) , HELE TATA..YOR (JHU MONKS).

  11. irfan zavahir

Alhumd-o-lillah, I am a Muslim and ashamed by such brutal act of so called Muslims; these kind of acts brings disgrace to every Muslim of the world (no matter whether they are Saudis or not). There is no place in Islam for such act and Islamic system gives the rights to victims to get the justice and have court punish perpetrators with same level of punishment (if the court and unbiased and free and Islamic court), this is the test for current Saudi system and they know justice will eventually be done, so it is easy for then provide justice then waiting for ultimate justice. In my opinion money compensation is not enough because people with money will keep on doing these act unless they feel the same pain as victims have felt.

    • arjuna

please live with your muslim brothers in all muslim nations and you will realise how poor is the human rights standards there ! only solution reforming these barabric societies. Human rights , migrant rights are always abused in all islamic nations from egypt to pakistan. The faith of Jews, Christains,Islam are fundmentally similar , the differecne is that all others have embraced changes and improved upon their standards wheres as Islamic nations still hold on the tribal laws. kindly look at this with open mind.

      • HT

Do you think Israeli zionists have embraced change and are civilised? white phosphorous bombing (used by Israel, and USA in Iraq) is ‘improivng standards’? Pls!! lets not bow down to the so called civilised western world…. Saudi arabia is so arrogant today solely becos they were appointed by the British in WW, and are protected by the US today…. civilised world applies civilisation only to their kind (rich), not to blacks, browns and the third world

  12. Grace

Muslims all over the world are ruthless people, this is their nature, women and men both are the same. They are the biggest murderess

    • azath

      Grace,

You need to study the history first before saying this foolish statements, I am sure you are under the influence of “white’s brain wash”
      1. nearly 100,000 people killed in Sri Lanka which Muslim army killed them
      2. 6 million Jews were exonerated by the Hitler? was he a muslims.
3.Crusaders (Papacy) killed 50 to 150 millions of people in the name of Christianity read David A Plaisted 2006 most of them were Muslims and some were Jews. Are crusaders Muslims
      4. Genghis khan(mongolian emperor) killed at least 1748000 people.
      5. Russian revolutionary depleted millions of people By ? Muslims
      7. WW1 and WW2 and atomic bombing by ? Muslims
On On On………still on Palatine, Kosovo, Bosnia, Chechnya, Iraq, Afghanistan, all these places Muslims are at the receiving end.

Do you know the fact that Prophet Mohamed PBUH participated and ordered some 50 plus battle and total numbers killed on both sides were some 1500 to 2000 in numbers all the wars were for his self defense not to grab the land or thrust islam on them.

Study the history as it is, Do not arrive at any foolish conclusions.

    • Roshan

DisGrace – You sound bitter, utter rubbish & full of revenge. Stick to the subject and say something in support of this lady Ms Ariyawathi or say something against her ruthless employer, without talking nonsence.
You knw what, your nature is so clear. You sound a murderess.

    • HT

Grace seems to be one of our famous racists in SL– you know the kind that were responsible for triggering 83 riots? the same racists that were responsible for the 25 year old war in SL….. we need to get rid of racists before SL can progress

  13. Saudi arabs are the dirtiest people on the purest, holiest land in the entire Arab world. Muslims consider Makkah as their holiest land, but sadly the Saudis have not recognized the value of it. It’s not fair to generalise the entire Muslim community for such crimes.

    • azath

Thank you brother for a fair comment from my brotheren in Sri Lanka, I agree with you that Saudi nationals at least some of them are barbaric in treating expatriates except whites, It is their arrogance and some of the commentators here try to tie knot to sharia law and to the Ariyawathie’s incident, is really unfortunate. Saudi Arabia is no doubt one of the country follows the sharia law but the truth is that they implement it differently in the case of expatriate. it is the fault of the Saudis not the sharia law. Our government should not leave this by just visiting the lady or promising her a house but try to bring the culprit to book whatever the punishment available in the land the crime committed and she should be adequately compensated. further, stringent measures should be taken to safe guard others too.

I would like to bring another issue here is that the Ariyawathie is 49 yrs old and age of maid is usually below 40 yrs so, there are lot of mishap happening in the part of the agent who fools the employee and employer leaving the poor maids suffering in the hands of the barbaric thugs.

  14. shkar1

Don’t blame Saudi. It’s extremely ignorant to believe that EVERY citizen of the middle east as a collective is barbaric like this maid’s employers.

Those who commit a crime should be punished. Easy and simple.

However let this be a warning to all Sri-Lankans wishing to migrate. Migration requires a cultural adaptation that requires some thought and intelligence. There is no doubt that a Saudi citizen would have been able to get out of this situation.

Please try not bring religion into this debate, as religion is not an allibi for ones actions.

  15. dignatious

    I hate muslims………

  16. smartypants

I would say they are terrorists. They were born as humans but look like a demon. I am a nine year old Sri Lankan in America and I really love my country. My name is Sadeepa and I would say if I compared the muslims,Saudi Arabia would be the worst!!! This world should be in peace not with all these punishments.

  17. smartypants

ariyawathi aunty mamata oyage address thena.mama oyata balanna ona.

  18. sudu

don’t worry my dearest mom. they should be borned with animals.

  19. shkar1

grow up. Dont be so uneducated and rash to speak about this issue. It’s a fault of botht eh Government for not educating Sri-Lankan migrants, and it is also a criminal issue.

Has nothing to do with Religion or Race.

Your an animal to judge via race.

  20. Khaled

I can believe this story. How come she traveled and passed all airports and no body found out about her suffering? Medically she cannot tolerate these nails in her body for more than 3 days otherwise she would have be poisoned and die.
And how come she was able to walk with 24 nails in her body? She must be a superwoman.
How come it was not revealed by x-ray machines in the airport?
I think there is something unclear in this case.

    • HT

I agree, somehting fishy id goin on, but end of the day she was operated with the nails inside her. We have to get to the bottom of the story bfore accusing nations (that we depend on , cos middle east is our largest buyers of tea, and housemaid services).

    • Shaik Anwar

Some people vent their anger at Muslims because Ariyawathie was a non-Muslim. Don’t worry, the Saudis are barbaric to Muslims too. Take the case of Rizana Nafeek, the Muslim teenager languishing all these years in a Saudi jail awaiting beheading for a crime she certainly is not guilty of. However, before we start pointing fingers, this Ariyawathie case has thrown some serious doubts as reported in the Sunday Times. There are many circumstantial evidence that the injuries could be self-inflicted – all the nails in her hand are on the left hand and she appears right-handed. If these were for punishments, why had the perpetrators taken care to heat the needles and ensure they were inserted where they cause the least damage? There are more.

  21. path

Stop talking nonsense, the verdict has been given already under the “Sharia” law,

“Saad al-Badah, the head of a Saudi government department responsible for foreign workers, told state television Tuesday night that Ariyawathi’s allegations were baseless and amounted to blackmail.”

  22. path

In Saudi Arabia every “Arab” is innocent until he is proven guilty but every “infidel” is guilty until she or he is proven innocent.

    • HT

Just like they want to PROTECT their citizens, we should look to take all steps to protect ours. The first thing we have to do is stop all housemaids from going to the middle east. Nevermind if they retaliate by stopping tea imports…. we still have garments to rely on….errrr maybe not! Tea, garments and housemaids–our 3 largest earners

  23. HT

We must look at the ground situation before we throw punches or point fingers at others:

    (1) poor illiterate females are sent abroad ..why? poor economic situation, to educate children, because husbands are poor, jobless, drunkards, druggies
    (2) Sl Govt does not provide alternative employment opportunities within the country
    (3) if alternative employment is there– we do not give an opportunity for the women to get abused, nor their children left behind to get abused by uncles, drunk fathers, etc etc
    (4) the maid was 49 years. Regulations are they must be below 40–what were the agencies doing? what was the employment burueu doing? what was the sl govt doing?

  24. dickhead

It is so funny to read some comments, how some people slander one another, don’t they know this is nothing about them but about a helpless housemaid being tortured and abused at the hands of her employer. I too have lived and worked in Dubai and Bahrain and I have witnessed many brutal incidents, where most of them go un published and not reported. In Bahrain it is appalling to see the Saudi’s spiraling in on a Thursday evening to spend the weekend womanizing and boozing as these are the only two things freely available in Bahrain. Also it is a great income to the Kingdom of Bahrain too. Saudis on the whole have only caused severe problems, they just have a very sinister mentality where they think they could do anything and get a way yes they do most times in other Arab countries. These maniacs not only are a hazard to others but also a terrible menace to public and self. We run a health centre in the hotel I work at, come a Thursday the Saudi’s patronize it, as a government rule no females are allowed to provide therapy to males, however, the Saudis insist that we provide them female masseurs. Most of them have influence in with the Bahrain hierarchy and so there are times that female masseurs are sent, these ladies come back and tell us horrid tales of the abnormal acts these parasites force them to perform. There was also a case where body guards of a ruling family had raped a Pilipino maid in Dubai, who was later committed suicide, further incidents of a Saudi man who attempted to chop off the breast of his Russian prostitute at a leading hotel in Dubai. In Bahrain Thai, Pilipino and nepali girls go missing without any trace they are taken away and forced into prostitution. The daily abuse of maids go on with no one attempting to put a stop to such barbaric acts, people only talk and comment, it is no use talking, and fighting with each other, it is also no use commenting it is time for action, so many people can write if these so many get together and do something would that not be better. We can sit all day long and condemn the word of Mr. Al-Baddah, but will it be any use? No Action is required and that action must be taken by our very own PRESIDENT, it is so damned disgraceful that he has not even taken any initiative towards doing something with Ariyawathies case. MR. PRESIDENT you and your pack of heathens in parliament must take full responsibility for the atrocities that your very own citizen ariyawathie has faced at the hands of Islamist Thugs, Hypocrites and Butchers. You Mr. President are now relishing in glory due to the fact that all such poor ariyawathies voted for you and your senile brethren, now is not your turn to do a favour to all these poor women. STOP DOMESTIC RECRUITMENT TO SAUDI. can you be brave enough to do that or are you also another GEORGE BUSH who licks the rears of the SAUDIS/ It is also a shame and disgrace on all males in sri lanka who are too lazy enough to get off their fat asses and provide for their women, instead they send their women out to such barbaric countries who thinks they own the own the world just because they have OIL MONEY, to throw around. Our women go slave and get abused while the men enjoy lavishly, these poor women either come back in body bags or with nails embedded into them some raped and tortured some don’t ever get to see the shores of Lanka. So who is to be blamed is it the Saudi barbarian or our Sri Lankan political ass lickers?? IT IS TIME FO ACTION PEOPLE NOT TALKING LETS JOIN HANDS AND COME TOEGTHER AND FIGHT FOR JUSTICE FOR SUCH POOR WOMEN. NEXT TIME IT COULD BE OUR VERY OWN! LETS ACT TO STOP ATROCITIES AGAINST WOMEN……

  25. MOHAMED ASFAR

  28. dickhead

Mona, what are you really trying to say my dear child! how atrocious, your English is. Yes I also know about some of the Pilipina ‘swho live and work abroad, we know the phillipino culture, most them don’t know even know who their true fathers are. I work at a hotel establishment every month we find a philly pregnant, they go home deliver and back again to where they started all over again spreading for even a free bun.

Mona, it because some of your vagrant sluty hyper women who lift their skirts to all such sadists these barbaraian in turn think that every woman is easy meat. Please don’t let me say more of your beloved kind. You people don’t qualify to even hold a candle to lady such as Ms. Ariyawathie, this is one hell of a strong and dignified woman. lets please support her, and condemn the acts of the muslim asshole you did this to her. I hope he rots before he dies.

Mona, I heard the saudi bulldog is looking for another maid I strong suggest tthat you go and be his housemaid I am sure he will love to nail you too (of course with something else) ……LOL

  29. Tony Gee

Many countries have banned from their women working in the ME. We should do that too. But then, the govt must provide employment for our people.
