The best thing the Sri Lankan government should do is to ban sending maids to Saudi Arabia. SL government had the courage to refuse GSP plus of EU regardless of financial loss. Then why President Mahinda Rajapaksa cannot intervene against these cruelties by giving up the blood money from Saudi Arabia.

Although I feel petty and will remain supportive to all human rights everywhere in the world , I don’t agree to ignite discord between nations and change an indivisual behavioue to a social harassment where nations disgrace each other . I have been in Saudi Arabia for 6 years . I understand that human rights violations occur everday especially against those civil maids but in most cases this happens as individual behaviour and not as a community or government planned action . If the woman directly contacted the local Ameer ( Prince ) , local court or even she could file a complaint direcrly to the King beaurea I am sure her sponsor will get the deterrent punishment and she will get full componsation for the damage . Inspite of all these I believe Gulf States will remain a great help for the deprived communities in most of the thirld world . Please leave the issue to take its normal course as acriminal case to be treated at the court and not to trial the whole camel jockeys .

that was an individual case it was not done for the sake of Islam . Muslims are killed everywhere but they do not blame religons . they blame the doers .
I think it’s not the religion. The human behavior in areas like deserts have created differences in the way people think, dress, eat… Those people had no trees, what they find is a goat or a cow, which had to be killed to save the day. this happened for thousands of years, even now it’s not surprising to see how these people behave. It s just genetics and social up-bringing.
But there is a small fact as well. The religion was molded to suite their lives, therefore may have an aggressive mode.

This is NOT an isolated individual case. There are hundreds of maids escaping from saudi houses because of this type of ill treatment. Some have jumped over the balconies to death unable to bear the mental and physical pain.They are not allowed to leave the houses they worked and their movements are limited to only the kitchen area where they work. These Saudi’s do not understand that these poor people come to slave because of poverty. For them a servant is a slave and private property and they think that they can do any thing to them because the workers cannot go to courts against a saudi and by chance in any one does go thee saudi justice system favour the locals and the foreigner has no chance.
It is not a problem of religion! it is an uneducated stone age behaviour !
Its means in middle east they still live in stone age with oil money… ( 100% of citizens are Muslims )
The point is, why the Sri Lankan government don’t take any action against them
or their government ? ( because of Oil money or income of foreign currency ? )

Its’ high time the SL government took some steps to value the rights of our people, irrespective of their work place; abroad or here.
This is not the first incident to be reported and definitely it will not be the last if we are not capable of defending our people abroad.

Abuse of women in muslim countries, where they are considered second class citizens, is well known. This has led to wide- spread illiteracy in islamic countries. After all, learning starts from the mother at birth. If the mothers are under-educated, the children would be the same. This is the problem with Islamic countries- especially arab countries.
Arabs led the world in science, architecture and technology thousands of years ago- then someone called Mohammed came along in the first century AD- and it has been down-hill since.
The government should change the corrupted officers at the Sri Lankan embassies in Middle East … then all this will stop..!!!!!!

If things were normal and honest (mainly with the people who run the country) these poor will not go to other countries looking for employment and get tortured by these animals. I blame the rulers of Lanka past and present.
Today, anyone can earn Rs. 500-700 a day. More than some workers earn in Mid-east. The reason they go abroad is their ego, They do not want to be seen doing manual/ maid/ servant work in Sri Lanka. When they are abroad they are quite happy to do any dirty work.
Here in Sri Lanka an A/C installers can easily earn Rs.5000-8000 a day. ( installing 3- 4 A/Cs)
An electrician / plumber can earn up to Rs. 5000-00 a day. ( I paid Rs 1500 for 2 hours work only yesterday)
I know a Garden maintenance guy who earn upwards of Rs. 2000 day.
I am at a loss to understand why these people want go abroad leaving their husbands and children–(perhaps thats the reason? freedom from children and husbands?)
What is the Embassy of Sri-Lanka doing there? Are they just warming chairs and taking their salaries without being pro-active in cases like these. I know its individuals who abuse Sri Lankan maids and house keepers. But we, the Sri Lankan government should be pro-active and not let these abuses become so frequent. Come on Mr. Rajapaksa, take care of our people. Thanks!

Some of politicians need Rs 241 billions alone for their vehicles per year. Poor Ariyawathi’s has to go to lands of Arabs(or who ever) to wash…………and bring their Riyals to full fill these dreams.

Well you seem to be knowledgeable in buddhism, I have many questions regarding the karma, some of them as listed below.
Who is the one decides the effects of karma? I guess you do not believe in God.
Where is described the such a person for his such crime would be born as such? It is all clumsy !! a dog in the house of a celebrity is much more better than a human child born in poor country so, which one is better according to the karma. and if the human birth is a better one why do people suffer more than they enjoy their life irrespective of their status. Mind you suicide rate is more in the west than other country due to the desperation.
Suppose a person refrains from sins and becomes a better person eg Angulimala what would be his next birth and what would happen to his previous sinful acts and wise versa.
So, Could the barbaric acts committed on ariyawathie be a karmic effects for some of her sin and if so, how could you blame the person who did it he was just an instrument of karma?
You mentioned some of the name of the perished leaders, there are a lot of them who committed crime and lived a better life at least in worldly matter and lots of good people were killed for example Gandhi jee and Rajiv and Indra Gandhi, SWRD Bandaranayake, many of innocent infants and children who died in the war and suicide bombing. List is endless.
