Seekers’ at De Saram Place, Mt. Lavinia, is an early childhood center where children from two years to five years are given special attention to their studies followed by proper etiquette.
“Unlike other day-care centers where whatever the food that is sent is given to the child, we at Seekers’ give a recommended menu to the parents which helps to stimulate the child’s brain. Although fast food and processed food are very popular among the younger generation, the parents do not know as to how it affects the young brains. The more you give processed food to your child, the more the brain stimulation power lessens,” Shanthi Wijesinghe told The Sunday Leader.
With more than 30 children under the age of five, Seekers’ is ready to cater to primary children between the ages of five and eight, where special attention would be given to their studies.
“Since special attention has to be given to children, I have assigned one teacher for 15 children. Not only are they looking after the studies of the children, but also, special attention is given to extra-curricular activities, as early childhood is an activity based learning period. There is a play area for the kids to enjoy themselves, while post lunch period would be the time for the children to relax. At Seekers’, children are not forced to sleep, but to relax. Those who need a nap could sleep, while those who want to engage themselves in any other activity to refresh themselves, are allowed to do so,” added Wijesinghe.
According to her, all the tutorial staff at Seekers’ are well-trained with living values which help them to mould the children from their small days.
“We are not only concentrating on education but also focussing on how to prepare the kids as useful citizens from their small days. In addition, proper etiquette too is taught,” Wijesinghe said.
Wijesinghe further added as to how they help the children to do their home work without being a burden to the parents.
