Uni Lecturers Postpone Union Action

University lecturers who were planning on resorting trade union action tomorrow (30) if the government failed to address their salary issue by then, have postponed the trade union action till September 7.

However, the university lecturers are to launch an island wide protest on September 2 to impress upon the government the urgency to address the university lecturers’ wage issue.

The Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) has reportedly said the decision to postpone the trade union action was arrived at following request by the government for more time to resolve the wage issue.

FUTA Assistant Secretary, Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri has told the media today (29) that Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunge had previously assured to provide a solution by August 25. However, upon being reminded of the deadline set out by FUTA, Weeratunge had reportedly requested for seven more days to resolve the matter.

According to Dr. Devasiri, a decision was arrived at to postpone the union action until September 7 following Weeratunge’s request.

An Assistant Lecturer of a University must be given all the privileges equal to a Member of Parliament.

Wouldn’t it be good people like you assess yourselves first whether you are doing a job worth your salary??

Postponement of enjoyment for the sake of countries development. But there is a limit and end point in this way of dealing with government.
