Mervyn Not Guilty
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) today (31) said the special disciplinary committee appointed by the party to inquire into the conduct of former deputy minister Mervyn Silva has found him not guilty.
The disciplinary committee was inquiring into the alleged incident where Silva had tied a Samurdhi official to a tree.
SLFP General Secretary and Minister Maithripala Sirisena has told the local media that the SLFP disciplinary committee has found Silva not guilty over the incident where he had allegedly ties a Samurdhi official to a tree.
Following the uproar that ensued the incident where Silva had allegedly tied a Samurdhi official to a tree at the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha, President Mahinda Rajapaksa removed Silva from his deputy ministerial portfolio and suspended his party membership as well.

Mervin is a peoples minister. He had more infrastructure developments in Kelaniya along, than all the useless UNP MP’s put together. No matter what these UNP+DNA+LTTE toilet cleaners say, people need the service of Mervin.

The investigation team members get a ‘pat’ on their back from their ‘boss’ and a ‘santhosam’ is on the way. The Samurdhi office will have his splendid reward too for his superb paulwalt cooperatin and contribution. His supporters who stood for him have their ‘kate pass’. The public well they are the usual ‘booruwas’. In Sri Lanka justice is allways on sale. Next step: Mervyn will visit the mahanayakas who will willingly bless him with a tag “good buddhist” and Keleniya temple will get another face lift.

Really Mr.Mervin Silva did a very good service and example. It is not good always the politicians are blamed. The Government Service of SriLanka is the most unproductive, inefficient work force in the world. But the Police service and the Health service in SL are the most productive and efficient work forces in the world. Otherwive Mervin has no any kind of corruotin charge up to now.

I agree with what you say about inefficiency within the government services but, isn’t there a better way to handle them? This thug should have been locked away and the keys thrown out for not only this incident but for all his past antiques?. What a disgrace. No words to describe the issue. i am not surprised about the finding since it is the way law and order is enforced. Now he will be reinstated as a minister again. Only public get fooled. There is nothing illegal as long as he is his boss’s man.
Mr palipana, no civilized country lets its ministers tie public servants to trees and humiliate them. If they have been errant, there are proper ways to punish them. And pls don’t condemn all public servants. Both my parents were dedicated, honourable professionals who served their respective departments to the very best of their ability. There are such people in government service.

This is trial by media. When media men write a report or bring a news item intelligent people have to select it as a gold smith selecting his gold. Wise will take the news appear in their coloumn in logical deduction only. And same should apply to Mervin Silva’s story, which bringing by news men with vengence and character assasination to give thrill and sensationalism. This what America and vested interest world press did to former Iraq strongman Saddam Hussain. They made him a villain just to kill him. This became true to me once I met tree Kurdish nationals who were having Saddam’s photos in their mobile. I asked them if he is so bad, why you keep his photo? For my astonishment they said he was good man and Amrican who hated him and killed him telling all lies. If one take 100 people in this world at least 85% believed he was bad due to news media hype. But truth is quite different. Today’s media can make or break a man with their news strength as news fly faster than the speed of light. If media goes on and on spreading false information about a person, whom they dislike or to make a governement a unpopular one who attached to government they can make or break the government from simple subject too. This is what they did to Julia Gillard governement in Australia, which was good government with low inflation, low interest rates, low unemployment.
