Hostage Situation at Discovery Channel HQ

A man, apparently an environmental activist, has taken at least one hostage at the Discovery Channel headquarters in Maryland, USA. It is ironic that an environmental activist should target the channel that is widely believed to be  proponent for positive environmental action but an angry post made by the man on a website paints him as a heavy critique of the channel.

He believes that humans are the scourge of the Earth; “Humans are the most destructive, filthy, pollutive creatures around and are wrecking what’s left of the planet with their false morals and breeding culture”, and programs must promote positive change and not put forwards ideas that will contribute to the increased destruction of the environment.

The man, identified as one James Lee, reportedly entered the building with suspicious metallic objects strapped to his body and waved a handgun at staff members. Authorities are negotiating with him and hope to reach a conclusion to the situation soon. More on CNN
