NTUC To Talk To Unions On Salary Increases
The National Trade Union Center (NTUC) is to commence discussions today (2) with other trade unions with regard to the action to be taken to win the demand of salary increments for the working masses.
A senior NTUC member told The Sunday Leader that the first discussion with other trade unions would be held in the afternoon today.
The spokesperson said the NTUC would discuss and launch a combined trade union action to win the Rs. 8,000 salary increment for the public sector employees and similar increments to the private and estate sector employees.
The NTUC has stated that given the current increase in the cost of living, salaries of a public sector employee needed to be increased at least by Rs. 8,000.
“The government is trying to side step from the issue of salary increments by speaking of rectifying salary anomalies. We will however fight to win a salary increment for the working masses, together with other trade unions,” the senior NTUC official said.

Lalkantha is no longer an MP and he needs work. He believes his duty is destruction. He is winding up the poot public workers. If the sequence of events that followed the election in 1977 is repeated, that would be an irony!!… Chronologically the events were, a new constitution in 1978, Islandwide strike by public sector in 1981, banning the JVP in 1983 and destruction of the JVP in 1990. Now again a new constitution is about to be promulgated, if these nutters drive innocent public servants to launch a strike, there are signs that the rest of the previous chain could easily repeat. So the JVP, please take your murderous hands off the poor folk.
Hey Ruwan are you going to feed Poor folks. They all are desrved to have quality life. if rulers do not learn from the History destruction is inevitable.
Mr. Ruwan, What you know about Lal Kantha and politics. You and your people can learn lot from JVP political culture. It is social need and never depress until you solve burning issues of ordinary community. So please ask your corrupted
political leaders who ruled our country since 1948 and drop into hell, not to cheat further under privileged community and not to put blame to JVP.
Then you better take the initiative.Think before you speak.I think you better not bias and study thedy the real history.
Saman, What initiative you want me to take? The public workers have jobs, a pension and they get paid. There are tens of thousands of others who do not have a job, house, pension, etc. The JVP should not destroy the country by driving the lot who are looked after by the government, instead what they could do is, help the people who need jobs, houses etc. I have just checked, the sequence happenbed as I said, history should never repeat!
My Firend Ruwan, The real story is differant than you think.I am not a JVP suppoter. But I know the exact situation. JVP is the party who have a rural ,grass root level youths.why? Because they dont trust UNP or SLFp anymore. Even after 1970 insurrection or 1988/89 no body address their issues. They are also part of our people.Even Tamil youths treat the same way.But you are asking them to do the social welfare and ,provide jobs.Who are those ten of thousand who doesnt have Jobs? They are non other than those rural youths. They are the ones who suffer a lot. These people send them to middle eastern countries for cheap labour and by using their foriegn earnings 2500 millions to buy luxery vehicle! How can we reverse this trend.I agree with you 100% on non violence. But Socio – Economic factors create situation sometimes which , we cannot reverse anymore. If you remember the incidents in 1988/89 just analyse how it happened.Ultimately they use the state forces to kill them.Remember ,this Man , who is going to become a dictator soon , was act as a human rights lover, sole guardian at that time. But see now? Do you think they rural youths are wrong? JVP may be wrong….but their voice is representing suffering masses in one hand.
Is it the pay that matter ?????
What is the hidden motive ? Cripple the Administration?
Taking care of the workers interest is one thing and thereby crippling the administration thereby is another.
If these TUs lead the workers to get rights resorting to by crippling the system, then stern action is needed against them.
if it may be, then Lalkantha is signing his own warrant.
There should not be demands but discussions with understanding to achieve as there are certain limits.
We can form alliance and alliance. From where the money come. The trade unions should be happy that the government has kept the current pay and also has not closed public enterprise as the UNP did. These agitations are sponsored by interested parties to topple the goverment. The Trade Union leader what they will do when an employee lost employment? What has happened in the western world with those job losses. The private sector is milking the employees. When these pathetic workers when they loose jobs no one is there to support them and their families. Workers should be intelligent enough not to listen to thse parasites. However, that does not mean any one should accept public waste and inefficiencies.
JVP is the abbreviation for Jathiye Vinhashaye Purogamiyo (Pioneers of National Destruction). They have proved it beyond without a doubt time and time over. So, If anybody is foolish enough to listen to these political rowdies, please do so and go commit sucide just like generations of youth who followed them.
